Historically, Ainge hasn't done a major deadline trade. The last one he did was for IT, and we were rebuilding then. I think he's hesitant to upset the chemistry of the team, especially when we're contending. He must have learned his lesson from 2011, when he traded Perk for Jeff Green at the deadline.

That said, I'm kinda worried about the Heat now, and the Sixers if their bench additions work out. I still like our chances against them as long as we're healthy heading into the playoffs.

In my view 76ers are nothing with a bad coach no matter who they add. As soon Mike started coaching bucks it was game over. Heat seriously improved have a good coach. so I think we end up 3rd. Bucks, heat, at highest us 3rd. We can beat 76ers but we can't be bucks now maybe we can't beat heat. Not happy going into playoffs at all.

I believe several things would have to break our way but it is possible. If we are healthy going in and Brad doesn’t let the rotations get away from him this team has the talent. 4 high level offensive players 2 decent bigs and a couple of strong defenders off the bench.
A legit rotation piece would of been nice to add at the deadline but Brad seems to do better when he doesn’t have as many options.

we are terrible down low

I think that coming into, and throughout the season, we have all said this. However, it turns out this simply isnt true. The numbers dont back it up. At all.

Now sure, we could improve hypothetically. Sure, AD or giannis or or embiid might feast...thats what they do!!! Nobody in the league shuts them down completely, and in flashes, we’ve shown the ability to slow them as well as anyone.

Im not saying i think we will win it all, just that our weakness downlow is way overstated

Hope this year Tatum and Brown will break-out in the postseason.

Clippers gonna waive IT and just keep Morris. Let’s get him! He can finish a lot better than Carsen at the basket and equal every other aspect..

We'll see how we fare against the Heat after the All-Star break. They basically just added wing depth, but they're all veterans who don't really move the needle for them (Iggy's old, Jae and Hill probably won't have much of an impact). We've already beaten them pretty handily in our past two games.

It's too bad we don't have any matchups against the Sixers anymore. I just hope we avoid them in the 1st round (it's increasingly likely that we face them). There's also the possibility that they continue to implode even with all the new additions, so ultimately their locker room will just cannibalize each other.

NBA should flip free agency and the draft. That way, we can still use our three FRPs to trade for when we acquire Anthony Davis via sign-and-trade.

I believe that Zarren is one of the leading advocates for that flip.

My latest hope for consolidation trade (shortly before the draft, obviously) is Lauri Markkanen. He can score. He is said to want out. He is said to be willing on defense despite his lack of skill. What's not to like about the idea?

They should be pushing harder for it instead of the dumb in-tournament stuff.

Meh, when you factor in defense , is he better than Brad Wanamaker? Don’t think he would be happy to come here and sit on the bench.

I love IT for what he did when he was here and i'll always have a soft spot for him, but he was washed when we traded him and he's extra-washed now.

except Edwards can guard NBA point guards. IT can't guard a chair.
One day Marcus Smart will be defensive player of the year, mark my words.

I agree. The heat just improved their depth. In fact, having iggy and jae, woild just hinder the development of their young guys. Herro, nunn and robinson are the guys that gave opposing teams problems with their shooting. I doubt they play fast with iggy, jae and butler in at the same time. The bucks is the only team that would be tough to beat.

I think if Heat got Gallinari we’d be singing a different tune. Iggy is old and has missed half a season at an age where you can’t afford to let your conditioning slide. He will take a month to get into game shape and who really knows what he has left. I guess he is still likely to play more than Winslow so there is that. Crowder should fit in well with that team but Johnson was a much more dangerous 3 pt shooter. Waiters was trash so that’s addition by subtraction. The Heat have a brutal 12 game run right now. They are going to fall to 5th or 6th seed. Did they improve enough to roar back into top 3? I seriously doubt it. They are overacheiving as it is already.

The Bucks, the Raptors and the Celtics will be top 3 seeds with Pacers a dark horse threat if Oladipo can get his mojo back.
"I think the criticism's stupid," Stevens said. "So I don't care. I'm with Jaylen (Brown) on that. Those two had achieved more than most 25 and 26 year olds ever had. I'd rather be in the mix and have my guts ripped out than suck."

He mentioned the primary reason we weren't able to reach a deal is we didn't have the right salary/salaries to send out along with our FRPs. Our top 5 or 6 weren't going to be traded. And our lower-level salaries just weren't attractive enough. The prep should've been done during the offseason to have those expendable mid-sized salaries. Theoretically, we could've had Mo Harkless for the season who was traded for Mook.

Fun fact: I found 58 of my posts containing the word "ballast' made during the offseason.

I gotta up my game apparently, so I'll bemoan once again that we did no prep work at the deadline to make ballast for draft/summer trades. Come to think of it, Ed Davis might have worked...

Don't sell yourself short. Of the fake GMs on this site, you were a primary proponent of squeezing every bit of our cap space to create said ballasts for midseason trades.

What type of trade are you thinking for this summer/draft?

I just don't have the frequency down. :)

Trade-wise, I can't bring myself to look yet. The one nice part about the summer is you can do those 3/4 for 1 trades and the other team doesn't have to immediately waive somebody to make room, right? I think they just need to get the roster down by camp. The downside is, there is even less guys available to be traded since they rolled off contracts and aren't eligible to be traded yet on their new ones.

But, I'm guessing minor moves. Hayward back, extend Tatum his max. Top 5, Kanter, Theis, Langford, Williamses to be most of our rotation. Fringe battles after that. Long threads about draft pick consolidation trades that don't happen. The usual. :)

No issues with you. Sorry my man.

We're good. This is way too insignificant a disappointment to actually get all acrimonious over. We got a playoff run to make.

Also my apologies for crossing the line. Was in the heat of the moment and got tired of the negative vibe without adding really something substantial besides hindsided opinions.

Still should’ve traded for Bjelica, 5-6 from three at the moment. Porier, Edwards & a second round pick would’ve got it done.

Return to Boston Celtics
