It's been a mixed bag . . . . PJ Brown, Stephon Marbury, Sam Cassell, Carlos Arroyo, Sasha Pavlovic, Troy Murphy, Ryan Hollins, DJ White, Terrence Williams, Shavlik Randolph, etc. etc. Alright, it's been mostly bad . . .

Wasn’t Finely a buyout guy? So washed when we had him - loved that dude on Dallas.

Yes, sir. Fixed the post. Thanks!

Thompson is the only one listed as a possible buyout worth pursuing. He is still, you know, good at basketball. The rest, not so much.

Too small at the 5. We need a big that can defend the paint. but to get him at the buy out, if no other true bigs are available, then why not.

Nah! Undersized center with no offensive skills. Just a good offensive rebounder, but can’t really defend the block and rim protect.

Lock this thread now.....it is a waste of “ink”. No way Ainge is going to just cut Poirier or Green or Semi. No way we are going to get a premier buyout player when we have no money to spend. I like ET and IT personally but neither are worth losing any of our young assets as they won’t move the needle at all. In Grant and RW we must put our trust.

Beside Brown, who saved this team from the Cavs in 2008, the Celtics have had not had great luck with buyout guys..

Cassell, Finley, Murphy, Marbury were bad and I am sure I am missing a few more guys as well.

Our needs/wants is going to get a big test next week when we play 3 WC playoff teams. OKC, HOU, LAC

Clearly Danny knew our roster has holes given his pursuit of Wood, Burks, and Bertans.

Many have said that we need interior help, a stretch big, and bench scoring....Well that's exactly what Danny went after. Just because the price tag was too high doesn't change the fact that those are our weaknesses.

For me, that's why you need to address these things before the season. The price tag is always too high at the deadline.

Anyway, we are about to test the "we're all set/I like the team as is" position with next week's lineup.

I also have early March circled with games against MIL and IND. Both of these teams are very strong in the middle and will look to expose us in the paint. It will be a good preview of what the playoffs will look like for the Cs because IND could easily be out first round matchup.

Is ET that bad? His stats this year aren't good but last year they were fine.

What? No love for the immortal Greg Monroe? As for Brown, he was not a buyout. He elected not to resign with the Bulls in the Summer of 2007 and was a free agent. He subsequently retired but changed his mind when he saw a chance to win a ring with the Celtics.

Murphy was terrible, and Finley didn't have a whole lot left, but both Cassell and Marbury were completely underutilized by Doc, especially Marbury.

No, his stats last year were bad too. Just not super-horrifically bad like this season.

Have there been any buyout guys who have been instrumental in helping their team win a championship? Let's take a look at the list of champions and see who's actually contributed:

2019 - Raptors - Jeremy Lin didn't do anything.
2018 - Warriors - dunno who they signed, but they probbably didn't do anything
2017 - Warriors - Matt Barnes - played a whopping 5 mpg in the playoffs.
2016 - Cavs - no one.
2015 - Warriors - no one
2014 - Spurs - no one
2013- Heat - Juwan Howard - didn't even play in a playoff game. Bit of a stretch to even call him a buy out. Dude was just sitting at home anyways.
2012 - Heat - Ronny Turiaf - played 10 mpg in the playoffs over 12 games.
2011 - Mavs - Peja Stojakovic - probably the only effective buyout guy who contributed to a title. Came off the bench and played 18 mpg, shooting 37% from 3.
2010 - Lakers - no buyouts signed
2009 - Lakers - no buyouts signed
2008 - Celtics - PJ Brown - also another good player.

So, history says that buyout guys don't do much to help win championships.

If TT gets bought, he'll be the best buyout guy in a long time, maybe ever?
