Glad he said it. Might as well have gone off on Simmons.

Ben holds back to fit in with Embiid. He’s so much more aggressive when Joel is off the floor.

I think he’s a competitor

"Voices that matter in the locker room soured on Russell as a long-term fit rather quickly," The Athletic's Anthony Slater wrote. "He wasn’t a disruptive personality, just not a beneficial component to a winning defense or a correct fit positionally, considering the two soon-to-return star guards are franchise pillars."

Russell has struggled on defense this season, and Slater's colleague Marcus Thompson put things in starker terms, citing multiple team sources.

"They were so eager to get rid of him that they are embracing a player considered to be on one of the worst contracts in the league," Thompson wrote in reference to the contract of Andrew Wiggins. "Take that as an indictment on Russell, if you want. It doesn’t seem like he did much to instill confidence. He didn’t play defense and disappeared when off the ball. He didn’t instill confidence in the leaders of the franchise that he would figure it out."

Thompson further reported that "there is a sense of relief for some in the organization that the experiment with Russell is over," as "some were pining for the Warriors to rip off the Band-Aid and trade him."

Do the Golden State Warriors know that things like defense and off-ball play and ability to contribute to winning basketball don't matter when assessing a franchise player?

He's 23 and takes a bunch of long jumpers. What else do you need to know?

The funny thing about all of these criticisms about D'Angelo are they all apply to Wiggins but even moreso lol. He's just as inefficient as DLo ever was and more. There have been reports that Wiggins "doesn't care" for years now and you can tell that's the case because his body hasn't changed since literally high school and his game hasn't evolved since then either. According to multiple media members, part of the reason Towns has been so upset and why Butler left is because of Wiggins and his lack of motivation and effort level combined with the amount of money he makes... Then there was the whole Team Canada thing and him refusing to play for them. There's a lot of similar things around Wiggins that are coming out about Russell and well..it doesn't take a rocket scientist to put 2 and 2 together to see why these "reports" about Russell are coming out now...

Warriors realize they got a chit package because everyone called their bluff that they would hold DLo past this season and now they're having the media carry their water for them to stay in the Dubs good graces...

Remember just last summer there was a real debate amongst respected NBA media guys whether Brooklyn should just keep DLo instead of getting Kyrie and now all of a sudden that's changed? Why? Because Russell is having a better statistical season? It jsut doesn't add up for me. The Warriors never wanted him and made that clear yesterday (which is fine BTW I was noted on this board as being anti-Russell all last offseason for the Knicks). I just don't buy all these smearing tactics as any sort of confirmation on an opinion on Russell the basketball player when the Dubs brought back in a clearly worse player on a worse deal.

This is all just Warriors justification through the media for their chit show of a deadline that was a desperate attempt to get under the lux tax.

yeah. wiggins sucks too. i agree with that part. i'm not sure it's a smart trade because i don't think they'll be able to move him. they were better off actually with the trade with us because they would have at least got out of the contract. they think they're gonna take their pick, the minny pick & wiggins and trade for someone but nobody is gonna take him.

I agree that the trade was bad, no matter how its sliced.

If they wanted to get out of D-Lo and his deal, the answer is not to take a worse player on a worse deal.

Simmons is the type of superstar that the Knicks have never targeted in my lifetime. Does everything well besides shoot it. And I think Philly's personnel is simply not catered to his elite skillset. Imagine having a 6 foot 10 dude who can check the other teams best scoring option, grab 8-10 boards and get 8-10 assists every night while shooting over 55% from the field? I would kill for that in NY.

Simmons is overrated guys. Not being able to shoot is not a non story.

I'm also not surprised about the reports on DLo. He's like that and you were fooling yourselves if you didn't believe so.

With Wiggins I don't know. He should have realized more of his potential, but then again he's averaging those numbers despite the contract and he didn't try to take his dope on a plane. Just saying. The Minnesota pick is only top 3 protected, so after the Warriors probably draft number 1 or 2 this year, they may very well draft number 4 the year after.

If you're a franchise that just won 3 out of the last 5 championships, this is exactly how you do business. They are already ahead of us AGAIN.

Put me down on wanting to trade for Simmons and building the perfect team around him. ALL shooters.

RJ Barrett + Julius Randle + 2 Dallas #1's + Kevin Knox feels like enough and works under the cap. Maybe they can re-route Randle for a PG?

Then make a run for Joe Harris as the fish in free agency. Draft Cole or Haliburton as their game compliments Ben's the most.

Simmons is one of the greatest hustle stat players in the NBA. He plays as hard as ANY star in the NBA and I mean that truthfully. An amazing defender.

Sixers are in that difficult situation of choosing two studs in the draft that don’t complement each other. From an emotional standpoint it is hard letting these types of guys go especially from a team and fanbase that had been subjected through the process.

I believe you can build a championship team around Ben Simmons

I’d pay a pretty penny to get him

Return to New York Knicks
