Re: Constructing the Timberwolves rotation
One interesting thing about the Wolves post trade deadline roster is that all 15 guys are 6'4" or taller. That should help with the switching defensive scheme since there are a lot of interchangeable guys.

Yeah I would view Spellman more as a C than a PF here, I don't think he has the foot speed for PF.

Re: Constructing the Timberwolves rotation
The talent is pretty thin between point guard and centre, but they're young and not tied to bad contracts which is what you want when you're out of the playoffs. Johnson is probably the outlier there, but hopefully he brings some toughness.

I'm super high on Beasley's potential, I think he is going to surprise a lot of fans. Has potential to be a poor man's Buddy Hield for us in this system this season.

Re: Constructing the Timberwolves rotation
A beautiful thing about the roster now is how many young, cheap, controllable assets we have going forward for a number of years. Crabbe, Turner and Johnson are the old and expensive guys, but lots of youth after that.
Layman is the oldest on the roster after them at 25.

I believe that being in luxury tax zone this season, we will not convert Kelan Martin contract into 1+3 deal this season.

A nice way of saying there is still a bunch of logjams. If we had 5 Wiggins clones they still woudn't have a great switching defensive lineup. But they would all be between 6-6 and 6-9 depending on who you ask.

I like that but the age worries me. It's ok for this season cause we played ourselves out of the playoffs but I'd like a handful of key vets in the future. Young teams tend to do terribly.

I’ll take the Jaylen Nowell role. Showing lots of talent at lower levels, but I only play sporadically at the NBA level.

Re: Constructing the Timberwolves rotation
With Turner likely getting bought out, this is an interesting idea/possibility:

I am much better with J-Mac as PG3 instead of PG2.

Re: Constructing the Timberwolves rotation
Can we build and develop something that rivals Denver?
Thinking of our three top pieces, Russell compares to Murray, Beasley could develop into a Harris, and we've already compared Towns and Jokic plenty. We have to continue to develop the depth of the roster and determine the SF and PF positions, but the top of the pecking order isn't exactly that far off for those who think we need better superstars plus defensive stars up and down the lineup to be competitive in the West.

Re: Constructing the Timberwolves rotation
I need Layman to hurry back. I would love to see a starting five with the top three guys plus Layman and Hernangomez.

Re: Constructing the Timberwolves rotation
Will be interesting to observe signs of chemistry as we shuffle player mixes in and out tonight ... I’d like to see...
1.) DLo manage the team ... we know he can shoot but we need a leader too.
2.) Beasley and Hernangomez ... if these two can stabilize the SG and PF positions it would be huge. Hit the open shots and play team defense.
3. Nail down the SF/wing spot ... Johnson? Turner? Culver? ... this really shows how Layman can fit.
Clippers will expose us tonight, but might also help us identify a few strengths due to the competition

Re: Constructing the Timberwolves rotation
I was hoping to see Nowell get some run the last 30 as well, but now I really fear he may be stuck in IA for the remainder with trying to get looks on others?Jedzz wrote:Klomp wrote:Russell / McLaughlin

Towns / Reid / Spellman
NOWELL. Must fit in there. Kick someone out. Okogie* at least.
McLaughlin can't be the backup for the last 30 games unless we're going to convert him (assuming one of the two will get converted after the ET buyout...Martin is more deserving but someone needs to be backup PG?)....who's been our PG in IA, since McLaughlin has been up? Does Layman become starting 3 & Martin the backup & they make Culver backup PG?
Move JJ to 3rd string PF....not concerned about wins this year & much more important to see the other two play & be evaluated....so I think my rotation looks like:
PG: Dlo/Culver/McLaughlin (stays on 2-way)
SG: Beasley/Okogie/Nowell (probably still playing in G-league)
SF: Layman/Crabbe/Martin (convert to 1+3)/Evans (gets run as backup until Layman & Crabbe come back...but then done in G-league)
PF: Juancho/Vanderbilt/JJ
C: KAT/Reid/Spellman
Prioritizing getting looks at new guys vs. vets...

3 games before the break ... should give the team some peaks at the new guys and how they stack up ... Culver, Okogie, and even Nowell will be trying to hold off Evans and Beasley ... we should see good effort

don't see them all playing. that's 5, but i can't really guess now that wiggins is gone. changes everything to not have a max clogging up that role.

agree on the prioritizing. we'll see where their priorities are pretty soon I suppose. i have a feeling johnson plays solid minutes if ryan ends up liking him in there. the team has needed a dude out there for a long time and he has been shooting well this year from 3. that's if that continues here. i maybe hope they give each of them a couple games of good minutes to test them all out. there are so many though.
