I think we should make a run at Gallo on a one year deal and if that's a no go then pivot back and try and retain Goran.

Screw Galo, if he wanted to be here he would have already landed, he is too brittle to commit that kind of money. Lets go after marvin williams, is is about to be buyed out

My gut says he wanted more guaranteed money than we could offer in an extension. I’m sure we would have gone higher if we could have to get the TO on the 2nd year. But the extension limits the amount and even if he gets a lower number having the maximum guaranteed salary in the next deal is possibly his key determining factor. Even at $18m with 5% raises he still locks in $77m. The most we could offer (& still keep 2021 flexibility) was like $23m. So he has to be able to sign a $52m+ deal in 2021 to come out ahead.

I seen exactly what I expected to see from his first year. He is a defensive player first, long quick, can run and can finish around the rim. I also think he has ball handling skill that he can show off this year. The natural physical talent is obvious.

Shooting I'm not convince until he proves it. I think he can be used this year but I think he will be sent back to g league when team gets healthy. My biggest concern was his fundamentals. And that's why I think it's more likely beneficial in the long run to continue his GLesgue training. So this summer he will not have worry about thinking but just reacting and expanding his skill sets.

Agreed--to me he looked a bit like DJJ out there. Long and lanky but has the feet/agility/athleticism to be disruptive and mirror on defense as he becomes savvier and more comfortable with his fundamentals and assignments. He's longer than DJJ and bigger framed but obviously not quite as bouncy.

He also has a handle to be able to get to spots on the court.

Naturally, he looked a little lost out there at times, but still had moments where his length and athleticism resulted in some plus impact.

I can see a DJJ trajectory of improvement and growth, except he has more upside with his handle, frame, and ability to create some of his own offense. Hopefully the shot comes along but that's totally TBD to me

Is this the expected rotation?

Nunn-Dragic
Butler-Herro
Robinson-Iguodala/Jones
Adebayo-Crowder/Hill
Leonard-Olynyk/Silva

Guessing those are going to be the 13 if all healthy game by game

Can anyone who's good at researching stats dig up when Spo started going full zone and what our defensive #s look like since? Seems like there's some strong correlation between zone and our recent defensive struggles but I'd be interested to see the objective data

Spo should probably read this article about how Boston destroyed our zone, specifically this excerpt:

Teams can’t rely exclusively on zone defense because it’s terrible once a team figures it out and at that point it can be destroyed pretty easily. The whole point of a zone right now is to throw enough possessions of it at a team to confuse them and change the flow of the game.

https://www.masslive.com/celtics/2020/01/boston-celtics-bust-miami-heat-zone-defense-and-a-question-arises-about-the-future-of-nba-offense.html

I've been screaming this very point the past two games. Zone is great if used in unpredictable intermittent stretches to disrupt offensive rhythm (like what Carlisle did to us in the 2011 Finals), but predictably going exclusive zone game after game is suicide. Yet Spo can't seem to grasp this

If Herro's healthy we probably beat the Kings. Just finish the season 3 games over .500 on the road.

Yea, Spo is using the 2-3 zone as a crutch at this point. It’s not going to end well against good teams with shooting and assertive shot creators. Know your personnel, but also know the opponents.

It will work vs Philly tho. Every time lol.

I see KZ as a high ceiling low floor prospect for us. There is something that I see in him in terms of the way he handles the ball that when he gains confidence to score that he’s going to be a problem in this league. Let’s not forget he can shoot the basketball. I don’t really ever see him being a star or anything but he can be a very good role or even starting player, a 3 and D type wing who can put the ball on the floor if needed player. I’d like to see him gain about 30 pounds and live in the weight room.

I think his biggest value will be defensively, and I could see his length going along very well with guys like Bam and that dude who plays professional ball in the state of Wisconsin.

Ultimately I feel he will be a player that makes DJJ replaceable, and a guy who is squarely a cog in our next windows rotation. I’ll say this I would rather have KZ moving forward on his rookie deal than Winslow

For next year, would try to sign Gallo on a 1 + 1 deal, resign goran and Meyers on 1 year deals, unfortunately will prob need to let djj go since he’ll likely want a long term deal

Bam/Myers
Gallo/olynyk/silva
Butler/Robinson/kz
Herro/iggy
Nunn/Dragic

I believe the number one plan this off-season is

PG: Nunn - Dragic - Vincent
SG: Beal - Robinson
SF: Butler - Igudala
PF: Gallinari - Okpala
Ce: Abedayo - Silva

Beal is definitely #1, but I don’t think Gallo will be on our list if he impacts 2021. I don’t think we’re cashing in a chance at Giannis for Gallo, even if we already have Beal (if we can afford Gallo in 2020 we can afford Giannis in 2021).

How you guys think our 2020 Offseason plan is looking like in terms of resigning guys and going after FA?

Heat FA:

- Dragic
- Jones Jr
- Leonard
- Crowder
- Hill

FA I think we could be interested in, depending on who we don't resign:
- Baynes
- Noel
- Bertans
- Harkless
- Tyler Johnson
- DJ Augustin

By extending, Beal made himself a hard reach. He has no leverage and will cost too much of our depth. At this point, Oladipo is more attainable than Beal, and will cost less. Even AD will cost us less to pry away(if he chooses).

Beal screwed himself by taking that extension. Maybe in 2021 he will have more leverage since he will have a PO the next summer, but this summer, the price will be high.
