Clippers Waive Isaiah Thomas, Have Two Free Roster Spots

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Sun Feb 9, 2020 12:43 am

The Los Angeles Clippers have waived Isaiah Thomas, league sources told Shams Charania of The Athletic.

Thomas was part of a three-team trade with the Wizards and the Knicks.

The Clippers now have two free roster spots.

So dumb, they should have at least gave him a chance. You still don't know if Collison or another pg is going to become available and decide to want to come to the Clippers. Why not let it play out or just keep Jerome Robinson.

Isaiah Thomas wasn’t a good fit with the clippers because he is too small and can’t defend nobody and to inconsistent easy pass. Reggie Jackson will be available soon as well as Darren collision and Reggie is better then both.

I would have liked to seen them give Isaiah a shot. That being said, there are some reasons why they may not have-
1. They have another PG more or less line up, and we're just waiting for that shoe to drop.
2. They really have already written him off (especially on the defensive end), and just don't see any sort of fit.
3. Neither of those are absolute locks, but they're waiving him as sort of a courtesy so he can go find another team now instead of reporting, practicing, finally playing, etc. only to likely get waived in 3 weeks.

His offensive stats have not been horrible this year and his 3PA% is very good, but I haven't watched him, he may be a turnstile on defense and so the Clippers basically knew they don't want him.

What was the point of trading Jerome Robinson for nothing, especially to the Wizards who were planning on taking him in the draft if the Clippers didn't take him sooner. They could have received a 2nd round pick or something or better yet, keep Jerome.

Jackson hasn't agreed or even decided that he wants a buyout so that may not even be an option. Collision was seen at the Lakers game sitting with Jeanie so while may be interested in the Clippers, he's obviously leaning towards the Lakers.

Just saying, so far this trade is dumb and unless they sign two quality players with their open spots, keeping Jerome and letting him learn and improve would have made more sense.

Why isn't Jamal Crawford signed? He's better then Reggie Jackson and IT. His role is score and has clippers experience. John Stockton played till he was 41. Why isn't Crawford signed. Is it something I don't know about

Collision is better than Reggie but i would consider getting both if I am the Lakers.. having the freedom to move LBJ off the ball would be massive

Your idea of moving LeBron off the ball more and getting a "real" point guard is a common one, but it just isn't a good idea. His athleticism has declined massively. Playing him at point guard is the best way to utilize the skills/advantages he still has, while hiding the fact that he can't drive on and dunk over defenders like he used to. He does need to start taking advantage of his size advantage in the post though. In today's league the best post play is the kind players dribble directly into, like Westbrook's post ups, and LeBron could do much better than Westbrook in that area. LeBron has clearly been afraid to drive to the basket, where his relative lack of athleticism (compared to his past version) has been getting exposed. And moving him off the ball, even for short stretches, will only make that worse.

They needed to trade him to get Marcus Morris, Knicks didn't want him so they had to bring in a third team. Not sure how much you've watched of Jerome but he hasn't looked like an NBA player. Hope he is able to find some confidence with the Wiz and show he belongs in this league.
