NBA Franchise Valuations Up 14 Percent From 2019 To $2.12 Billion Average

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Tue Feb 11, 2020 6:48 pm

Forbes has released the NBA franchise valuations for 2020 with a league-wide increase of 14 percent from 2019 to an average of $2.12 billion. NFL valuations have increased 11 percent and Major League Baseball has increased eight percent.

The NBA generated a combined $8.8 billion in revenue last season, which was up 10 percent over the previous season. Gate receipts are projected to increase eight percent overall in 19-20 as the Golden State Warriors opened a new arena while renovations were completed in Boston, Cleveland, Philadelphia and Washington.

The New York Knicks are the NBA's most valuable team for the fifth straight season and have increased by 15 percent to $4.6 billion, followed by the Los Angeles Lakers at $4.4 billion and the Golden State Warriors at  $4.3 billion.

20% increase for the Hornets and 18% for the Cavs but only 6% for the nets with Kyrie & KD and the Mavs only 7% with Luka?

Brooklyn didn't turn into the market they expected and DAL is just coming out of their post-ring recession. It's hard for francise value to go up when it was overvalued in the first place. It will balance out in the long run... particularly if they win something. Check out TOR.

I would buy LAC stock if I could. They are the little brother in their market, just like BRK, but they have a real shot at winning a couple rings in the next few years. If they step over LAL to do it they have a large pool of band wagon fans to draw from.

Please not Vegas. People don't seem to know this, but...... Vegas Sucks!

They would have no home court advantage and season ticket sales would be terrible. Everyone at the game would be from out of town!

Vegas is awesome to be able to go to bball games in Vegas would just make it even more awesome.. Your not wrong in part but man as a person that visits the USA to watch NBA games getting to watch games in Vegas would be great.. An idea might be if teams agree to play some games in Vegas and get paid to play there.. That way you could rotate some teams through Vegas without having to put a permanent team there..

Hit the nail right on the head. I understand how accounting works, but I hope the next CBA is negotiated to include a clause that if management causes a drop in BRI then the player's share should increase for the following season instead of the cap drop they just announced.

This is a classic corporate trick, we have a bad year so nobody gets a bonus, but somehow the stock price is still rising so management still gets richer.

I know the cap went down a tick, but I was being ironical. A 14% rise in value on a collective value of over $60 billion isn't exactly devastating to a business. As I said at the time, over and over, "China needs the NBA more than the NBA needs China." Now that over 400 million people in China are locked in their homes, this seems truer than ever.

I see your point, though, about income versus value and players versus owners. It just had nothing to do with the point I was trying to make.

All the season tickets would be purchased by MGM and comped to all the fools that lost 10k+ in their casino the night before. Half the people that showed up wouldn't really be NBA fans. They would just be showing up so they could say they got something from all the money they lost.

The upper level seats would be half empty. They would be sold as part of promo packages but the ticket holders would never get there; they would lose track of time playing Black Jack or pulling a lever.

It would be terrible for the players, the fans and the league as a whole... but it would be profitable, so count on it happening. :D
