76ers Had Interest In Re-Signing Jimmy Butler On Max Extension

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Tue Feb 11, 2020 6:15 pm

The Philadelphia 76ers traded for Jimmy Butler and he led them all the way to a Game 7 against the eventual champion Toronto Raptors, but they were unable to re-sign him in free agency.

It has been unclear which side between Butler and the 76ers was more responsible for the parting of ways.

A source tells Nick Friedell of ESPN that the 76ers had interest in signing Butler to a max contract extension, but they pivoted to re-signing Tobias Harris once negotiations with Butler reached an impasse.

Butler went to the Miami Heat in a sign-and-trade in which the 76ers acquired Josh Richardson.

I hate this 7 years ago articles. The 76ers didn't offered him a max. They chose to go with the younger and less ralented of the 2 and to make matters worst overpay for a 34 years old horford. Now is the time for the remorse articles to pop up

Exactly...and maybe butler just plain wanted away from embiid and simmons. Could be he's more about winning than twitter or instagram...who knows.

Raptor fan here and last year in the playoffs the only player I was worried about was Jimmy Buckets, not Embiid, not Harris, not Simmons, it was Jimmy Butler that was hurting us and hitting those big soul taking shots. He was the heart of that team along with JJ Reddick, those two guys did the most damage and those two guys Philly couldn’t retain. This is the reason why Philly is in 6th place now. Horrible offseason for Philly, I’m only grateful that they talent on Philly has been spread out to other teams.
