There are of course many different ways available how to celebrate Kobe's memory by integrating it with the formal NBA tradition.

As to e.g. retiring Kobe numbers by specific players or franchises - or, on the other hand, adopting by players numbers related to Kobe - I have one simple advice: all of them should celebrate KB's memory however the * they want.

As to the idea mentioned in the OP, it's certainly not bad.
Nonetheless, I reckon that one particular idea I've thought of is even better. Instead of pushing out Jerry West (another Lakers great, on similar level to Kobe, but less lucky than him in his player career) as a NBA logo (which is not even personalized and never will be, it is just a silhouette), why not to add something completely new and make KB a patron of All-Star Game MVP award?

Look at Kobe's impressive resume here.

ASG MVP - 4 times (all-time leader together with Bob Pettit; Oscar, MJ and LeBron had 3 MVPs each).

All-Star Game selections - 18 (second only to Kareem, who however was not ASG MVP even once).

Consecutive ASG selections - 18 (most ever).

All-Star Games actually played - 15 (again, second only to Kareem).

ASG started - 15 (tied for 1st with LeBron).

Slam-Dunk Contest Champion - 1.

Points scored - 238 (second most after LeBron, MJ is 3rd and Kareem 4th).

The youngest player to both play and start in All-Star Game.

With all these accolades and multiple highlight moments we remember from his All-Star Weekends, Kobe is the most accomplished ASG participant ever so far. So he definitely deserves re-branding ASG MVP to Kobe Bryant NBA All-Star Game Most Valuable Player Award.

Just like NBA Finals MVP was branded as Bill Russell NBA Finals Most Valuable Player Award (Russell would have at least 9 of those awards if established earlier).

What do you think about it?

The Kobe Bryant Trophy. I love it.

Staples should be called The Kobe Bryant Arena.

I made this. It’s a rough draft. Can anyone help me make a good version. I like the idea of having Kobe pop out of the NBA red blue rectangle a bit.

I also like how the dunk has the same general form and flow as Jerry West. I really think this photo of Kobe is far superior than the dribbling and shooting ones.

And can be every bit as iconic as AirJordans JumpMan

Thanks, Stan. I'm so glad they've implemented the idea we both supported and, furthermore, that the first ASG with Kobe's award has truly deserved association with the Black Mamba due to players really giving all their effort in decisive moments like it were a Finals game on the line! :-)

Yep. Many of them used to sort of semi roll their eyes at how unnecessarily hard Kobe always played in the ASG.
