He replaces Ian as the big D guy on the team is 23 and yes a bit over paid. But he fits. We have the cap room to make up the difference either way, and we will resign bertains with bird rights. Then we just convert Mathews, resign shabazz (bi exception I imagine ) and our first and second round picks can replace Robinson and admiral. ? I know a lot of us wanna stick to hope that Bryant is going to wake up and be a terrific defender some day and I like him but idk. And that's all before we look at MLE guys. And we are comfortably under the tax still I think.

Indiana has no reason to do this. They have Sabonis and Bitadze at center.

I get the incentive for Indiana to save money. The issue is that Turner is at least capable of playing PF alongside Indy's centers. Bryant isn't.

Yeah you'd want to look at 3 team deal, Bryant to someone that can send a player to Indy they'd want.

Yeah, I've looked around at that. There aren't many teams looking to add a below-average defensive center at $8M a year. Bryant needs to get better if he is going to have trade value.

Ultimately, we're better off trying to develop Bryant further.

I was getting into it with a Knicks fan over beals value. He posted top 3 protected 2020. Higher of the 2021 kyc and salad pick and Randle for Beal. I said not even in the ball park. And came back with 2020 unprotected 2021 and 2023 dalas picks, Randle , Robinson and Barret. Knowing that may be a bit high that's where you start on a beal to NYK trade right? I eventually said sure replace Randle with Gibson and Ellington and drop a dalas pick in 2023. But I think I'm a lot closer in value that he is imo? Or am I crazy

Yeah, I'd probably do that. It doesn't really make sense for NY though. They're trading every asset they have for Beal. Who is Beal going to play with?

Yeah I'm not saying it's a great move but that's the value I placed on Beal. I'm not arguing that they should do it. But I think my value was spot on or at least close.

Take this for what it's worth https://heavy.com/sports/2020/02/top-5-offseason-sixers-joel-embiid-trades/ Just one writer's speculation of where Embiid might be traded in the offseason. The writer's #1 option is Washington.

PLENTY of teams would outbid us, but an interesting case could be made that Bryant, Rui, 2020 top 10 pick, 2022 pick would be the best package of win now & later assets they would get (Plus Ish & Robinson as filler).

Wall
Beal
Brown
Bertans
Embiid

Bench: Bazz, Mathews, Bonga, Full MLE, Wagner, Schofield, 2nd round pick (Nesmith?)

That 12 man group (Including Full MLE) is still 7-8M under the tax (Can also use bi-annual) and competes with anyone in the East.

Not saying I would do it, but compared to others (Heat, GSW, Portland), our package is more valuable depending in your goals.
GSW:
- Wiggins + #2 pick < Bryant + #9 pick
- Minny 2021 pick < Rui + 2022 pick

I've been mulling over whether or not it makes sense to try to trade for Mitchell Robinson. He's not the brightest player in the world, and he doesn't fit the archetype of what most teams look for, but he's a ridiculously gifted 21 year old. Ist in the NBA in eFG and True shooting %, 3rd in block shot %, 7th in offensive rebound %, 9th in Win shares/48 minutes, 6th in defensive box +/-, 11th in overall box +/-, 16th in PER. His defensive numbers seem to be what we need on defense, and he certainly scores efficiently and rebounds. Could we get him for Wagner and our lotto pick? If we can, should we? Interesting fact: In the 2018 draft, Wagner was picked 25th and Robinson was picked 36th.

A couple of days ago, I wrote that I'd trade our 2020 pick for Robinson -- to me a pretty easy call for all the reasons you cite, Ruz.

Maybe they'd take our Robinson as the add-on, rather than Wagner? I'm really curious how Mo Wagner, man of mystery, is going to turn out!

And I was going to throw a party for you if we got Robinson. You've been such a big proponent of his. If the Wiz do get him, gotta figure there's not going to be PT for each of him, Bryant, and Wagner, so it just makes sense to include Wagner in the deal. I'd much rather keep Bryant over Wagner. And our Robinson has next to no trade value - arguably negative value because of his 3.7 mil guaranteed for next season.

The most I would offer is, Bryant and 2021 top 3 protected. For Robinson.

Actually, Zards would deserve the party -- he was a big Robinson proponent in the run up to the '18 draft. But... I'll attend the party!

As to "our Robinson" lacking trade value, that's perfectly valid. But, we are talking about the Knicks FO, so anything's possible, right?

Wagner could still be traded, even if he didn't go to the Knicks in that deal. Really, the question is how highly they value Robinson. I'm guessing that they value him very high. Probably no deal here. Or, maybe draft night -- if they see someone they really want to have.

Heee, didn't you just say you didn't want to trade Wagner? Anyway, I think the fact that they don't even start him ahead of aging journeyman Taj Gibson is a hint that they probably under-value him. They even overpaid for C/PF's Bobby "Painfully Awful" Portis and Julius Randle in the offseason - not exactly signs they believed in Robinson. Yes, the Knicks are nutty and unpredictable - always try to buy low with them.

I like Robinson a lot, but Bryant & a R1 pick...? I don't know. I value Thomas Bryant based on his 1500 minutes last year. Plus... I really like the guy. I think he has an extremely high ceiling.

Yet, overall, though a very different player obviously, Robinson has been even better than TB was last year. What I don't see in him is where he is going to develop.

Doesn't mean it's not there, of course. But... is he going to be a shooter at any point in his career. Maybe he doesn't need to be? Robinson makes 8 out of every 11 shots, missing only 3, & in the time it takes him to put up those 11 shots he grabs 6 offensive rebounds.

21 years old. How do you not acquire him if you can, I guess?

He said in an interview that he'd like to start taking more jumpers, if only to pose a slightly credible threat outside of three feet or so. That said, for me his future rests entirely on his foul rate - he simply has to learn to pick his spots better in terms of attempted (edit: attempted blocks*), or else his minutes will always be limited. If he gets that under control, though, there's nobody remotely like him in the league in terms of rim protectors with the ability to switch onto any position comfortably.

Yes, I think that's exactly correct, all of it.

The good news is that his fouls are down 10% this year. If he keeps that up year on year -- he'll be down to an average foul rate for a big in only... 4 years! :)

Thanks, PIF. Everyone here gets invited to the party if the Zards get M. Robinson. It would address our #1 shortcoming--rebounding and interior D. Where's the cake! :)

Like you though, I suspect the Knicks value Robinson more highly than we realize.
