We "Don't" Want the Monk: The Malik Monk Thread

I didn't get to watch the game the other night, but does anyone know the rationale behind starting Caleb Martin over Monk? I can only assume it's due to JB wanting that scoring spark off the bench, but outside of that it's pretty bizarre.

I think it has a lot to do with set systems and plays. Putting Martin in the starting line up means that is the only adjustment.
Putting monk in the starting line up means there has to be adjustments with almost all lineups as it changes the rotations. Both with the starters and the bench mob.

I am more of the mindset of let’s put our most productive players out there to start. Terry is the one who should be coming off the bench.

Unbelievable. Give credit where credit is due, is all I want. Besides, how can management find out who the best starters are if some of their best young talent never starts? This whole season is one long audition. Frankly, it suggests incompetence.

frankly, monk has been terrible most of his nba career. i get that memories get short, but bacon had more consistent stretch of play than monk ever has

Well, if he continues this through the end of the season then we may have something. He’s really young and it seems like he’s playing with more intelligence lately, which is what is needed to connect his athletic ability to on court success.

Just seems like we play better with other combinations that don’t include Terry. Terry likes to look for his own shot regardless of the situation so I would rather he play with lesser offensively skilled players from our second unit and be the primary PG to spell Devonte.

If we land the number 1 pick then Edwards could be headed our way or Lamelo. So chances are high Monk will be coming off the bench next year too. Also, it could keep his contract a bit lower too

Even when he's frustrating he's entertaining. He may not always be helpful to winning basketball but he's a human highlight reel, even when he screws up. I just really enjoy watching him play, especially since he's clearly gotten some confidence back lately.

I dont know if anyone caught it but during the Bulls game they talked about how he realized that he needs to put in more time and more thought into his game as opposed to just showing up and playing. I hope he's turned a corner in maturity and this continues his growth.

Monk is shooting 49.5% from the field in seven games in February, and 45.2% from three. He just needs to keep it up through the end of the season.

He has so much room for improvement in other areas of his game, but he has great talent, and sees the court well. I am optimistic he can do it. A lot of NBA guys work on one or two facets of their game in the off-season. I would point to passing and ball control, besides adjusting the arc on his three-point shots.

Monk will move into the starting lineup against the Pacers.

Apparently Monk just got suspended by the NBA for the anti-drug program and will be reinstated once he is in compliance. That's so incredibly vague. Does this mean he was smoking weed? Last thing this guy needed right now especially after finally turning the corner.
