I believe I will win the AS GT and thus inherit the next GT. You can continue on as default OP, but by right of inheritance and the law of surprise this will be my banner.

Wrong. My previous banner was not easy, but a 7 game win-a-thon that has yet to be beaten.

Was surprised no one made gt after your 1-1 stench previous op. 5 mins passed by, I came back on my lappy and was nada.

Chalm insisted iirc that he was going to make the atl gt before the season ended.

Dude is scared.

Hey gom, you linked the cba document that lists over 120 points. Can you narrow it down to which you are referring to. It’s like saying please see all volume 1 of the encyclopedia and then not even reference what exactly you want me to see within those thousands of pages. Also, I know it fairly well, although memory is a bit vague since last time I read it was in 2014 and have not kept up with nuisances and changes since then. With that said, based on https://hoopshype.com/salaries/miami_heat/

Even including Anderson’s dumb stretch, we have 65mil on the books next season, plus a few mil in roster spot holds. Roughly 70 mil. Don’t sign DJJ, and ship off KO and FRP for a future FRP and you are looking at 57 mil on the books.(edit: forgot about iggy’s 17 mil pushing us to 74 mil and 41 mil in free cap). Plenty of space for AD this summer.

Fast forward to 2021...

We currently project to have 43mil with a QO for Bam. Make it 48mil with cap holds for Nunn and Robinson. And let’s say we have AD sitting at 35mil(not sure what his hold or amount would be). We now only have holds for 3 empty spots so let’s round up and say an extra 38 mil between AD and 3 cap holds. We are looking at 86 mil in salary going into 2021.

So far going into 2021 free agency we have:
AD/Bam/Butler/Herro/Nunn/Duncan/KZ/And Silva in tow.

That is 29mil away from a 115 mil cap, but projections predict 125 mil, or 39 mil in salary cap for us. We are one Silva trade away from 40 mil.

Let me be clear, I made several estimates along the way, but point is, we are in shooting range of all this and Giannis!

AD has 7 years of service, and Giannis 6 years at the end of the season. The max salary exceptions are in q24: http://www.cbafaq.com/salarycap.htm#Q24

Because AD wasn't signed to a supermax deal and doesn't fit the q24 exceptions, he is limited to 30% cap for two more seasons, which means he should sign a 1+1 deal with a player option in the second season, rather than 30% max. Otherwise he will lose a lot of money.

The same is more or less true of Giannis, but the Bucks might render this void by awarding the player a supermax deal: Designated veteran extension. If they instead decide to trade him, Giannis will be in the same situation as AD but one year later (with one fewer season of service.)

I don't feel AD will be traded by the Lakers if he renounces his player option (which he *must* do or (again) lose plenty of money). I think AD tests the market. Lakers still have his rights and can offer him a 5 year deal instead of 4, but (again and again), it doesn't make sense for AD, because with 10 years of service, he can get 35% instead of 30%.

That means the Lakers don't really have much of an advantage, only an 8% raise (bird exception) vs 5% raise per annum, but that's not so important if you have a 1+1 deal.

To your other questions, I doubt Dragic or Crowder play for veteran's minimum. Many other teams will have better offers for Dragic. Crowder might be able to get a BAE or something. So, no... I don't see that.

What I do see is we would have only a few players in June 2021, but not enough space for AD and Giannis. The money doesn't seem to work, especially with the dead cap and spaces reserved for players.

1) Iggy + Kelly + Herro + Nunn + 2020 pick

For

Bradley Beal.

I love Herro, but considering Jimmy's age - i can see the logic of going all in right now with the more ready proven Beal.

2) Bam + KZ + DJJ + Dragic

For

J. Emmbid

I don't love this move honestly, but one can argue we'll have a higher ceiling with Embbid on board.

If you make both trade we're left with :

PG : Tyler Johnson / G.Vincent
SG : B.Beal / Ring chaser
SF : Butler/ Ring chaser
PF : D.Robinson/ Ring chaser
C : Embbid / Silva

So we'll have probably the best starting 5 in the league, with a very questionable bench. We'll need to find some old ring chasers and G-leaguers that can help the bench for minimum salaries.

But this team will be deadly if healthy.

Thoughts? I'm thinking maybe trade #1 will be enough.

In on the Beal trade. Pass on the Bam for Embiid. We are just starting to learn what Bam can do. Also, did you sign TJ? Really?

I prefer signing Anthony Davis to Beal or Embiid. In my dreamworld he's the reported disgruntled star. Bam+Butler+Davis and crush.

TJ for the vet min all day GOM.

I think the Beal trade is a must if we want to maximize the Butler era. Jimmy can't wait for Herro to develop for the next 2-3 years. Beal is ready NOW and hes young enough to be a long term Heatel.

About A.Davis - Lets get real - no way in hell he leaves LA. Not after everything that happend.

Emmbid is far more likely to be attainable - although the homer in me would be content with adding Beal,
keeping Bam and hoping he continues to develop his offensive game.

Rotation next year :

Defensive starting PG \ Dragic
Beal \ ___
Butler \ DJJ
Robinson \ KZ
Bam \ Silva

If we can find the right PG - That's a sure legit contender. And that's a realistic plan.

Thanks for all the details! I took into account cap holds and empty spot holds. We are looking at about 41 million in 2020 and 74 million available in 2021 by selecting to retain those above mentioned players. Again Dragic and Crowder I was fully aware were more of a pipe dream due to financial constraints and hope they would take a vet min to stay on for this ride. AD and Giannis on the other hand, are actually much less of a financial pipe dream.

Riley would have the realistic ability to offer both 4 year max deals on each Of their year... 2020 30% Max to AD assuming a 115mil cap is 34.5 mil and we have roughly 41 available that summer. A 2021 raise of 5% for AD puts him at 36.2mil and it puts as at 87.2mil in salary entering 2021.

Assuming a salary cap of 125, that leaves us 37.8mil for Giannis in 2021. A 30% max for a 125mil cap is 37.5mil, which means with even keeping Silva we got the money to offer both a 4 year max on their respective years. If we can convince each team to S&T like we did with Bron and Bosh, we can secure them ever more years and higher raises.

Again... I accounted for dead cap in Anderson, cap holds for our youngins we do want to kee, and empty spot cap holds. So to summarize, we are in shooting range of making it happen. We just have to hope these players are willing to take the Paul George route and surprise the league with a decision to not put money first like he did in OKC when he took the 4 year deal. In other words, let’s see if Pat still has the “it” or better said, DON factor!

Thanks again gom for extracting some of the details and elaborating and helping bring this vision to better focus. If they each want to position themselves for the 35% extensions, then the DON really needs to work his magic with the Lakers and Bucks to get those S&Ts and at that point may have to consider what assets we attach. Will it be FRPs or some of the youth I was hoping for us to retain.

I have been wondering about Dinwiddie. Is he or will he be happy with his role. He has a player option after next season. I'm not totally familiar with his game. What are your thoughts on him?

Curious to see if KO opts out this offseason. If he does, the Heat could have some cap space to make moves.
