PLENTY of teams would outbid us, but an interesting case could be made that Bryant, Rui, 2020 top 10 pick, 2022 pick would be the best package of win now & later assets they would get (Plus Ish & Robinson as filler).
Wall
Beal
Brown
Bertans
Embiid
Bench: Bazz, Mathews, Bonga, Full MLE, Wagner, Schofield, 2nd round pick (Nesmith?)
That 12 man group (Including Full MLE) is still 7-8M under the tax (Can also use bi-annual) and competes with anyone in the East.
Not saying I would do it, but compared to others (Heat, GSW, Portland), our package is more valuable depending in your goals.
GSW:
- Wiggins + #2 pick < Bryant + #9 pick
- Minny 2021 pick < Rui + 2022 pick
We are giving up way too much in that trade idea.

What about a small scale trade, maybe more in Tommy's wheel house? I was thinking about something like Admiral for Bruno ?

Would we then trade trade Bryant ? That would be 4 centers on the team?

I was basically thinking Bruno to replace Mahinmi. He can compete with Bryant for the starting job or come off the bench. Unless we draft a center
Or maybe we could trade Bryant.

I think if Hayward opts out , he would be stupid to do, unless they have a wink wink deal with him. To resign him to 4 years at a bit less. Bryant, admiral and our second to Boston for those 2 late firsts makes a lot of sense.but if not I don't think they have the room to do so.

Maybe some kind of draft day trade, if we take a Center with our top pick (Oturu or Okongwu for example).
Celtics also want a Center, if they like Bryant more than than what's left in the draft Maybe we can deal Bryant for the #17 pick.
Something like Bryant, Admiral for Daniel Theis, Grant Williams, pick 17 ?
https://basketball.realgm.com/tradechecker/saved_trade/7288037
Celtics would still have 2 other 1st round picks.
At 17 I'd be looking at Paul Reed, Stix, or maybe Sylla, or just BPA ...

If we land a top 3 pick and Wiseman is still on the board, I'd like to see a trade down with Atlanta and their #5ish pick. Something like #2 + Bryant + Robinson for #5 + Capela. Then draft Haliburton or Hayes at #5.

I would probably say if we take a center I would like that trade alot. Bryant admiral and a second for theis, Williams and the bucks pick or the Celtics pick. I don't think they would give us Williams and 17, even for Bryant.

Ok, so say we draft Okongwu at #9 ....
Then deal Bryant, Admiral, #38 to Celts for Theis, Grant Williams, #27?
I think that could work...
27 we can get a good player in this draft... Okongwu, Wagner, AP at center... Theis adds some big man depth, maybe Williams is a better fit for us than Admiral.

Most of these ideas are making my head spin. I understand nate's thoughts. The other recent notions just make zero sense to me.

Yeah I'm not dying to trade away Bryant. I still think he can improve, he's just having a disappointing season that was entered with high expectations for him.
I don't expect us to deal him, or acquire more draft picks. I was just trying to show how it might be possible if that was our objective.
Word is, however, Wizards brass is very interested in the availability of Miles Turner. I honestly would not be shocked if some kind of Bryant (who went to Indiana) + draft pick for Turner deal goes down. It's not what I want to do. But Wall and Beal want a team that's ready to compete NEXT YEAR.
It's why Brooks was playing Bryant at the 4 to promote his ability to play PF.
Wizards brass views a team of Wall, Beal, Hachimura, Bertans, Turner with bench Wagner, Bonga, TBJ, Robinson, Ish can challenge in the East.

Re: Official Trade Thread -- Part XXXVIII
Indy wasn't interested in that deal at the deadline because the draft pick doesn't benefit them now, and they're making a playoff push this year. But after the season when they can make the transition and draft a player for next season is when the deal makes sense for them.

Re: Official Trade Thread -- Part XXXVIII
My preference is keep what we have and just draft a Center that will hopefully be at least as good as Turner... Oturu, Okongwu, or Carey are all prospects I'd be looking at. But they view Turner as a rim protector who is still young just entering prime, but past the developmental stage and ready to win now.
In simple terms...
The Wizards don't have a rim protector and want one. The Pacers have a rim protector they want to deal. They don't have a draft pick, and they want one. The Wizards have a draft pick.

To make it simple: Turner is a better defender than Bryant, but I'm not convinced he's all that good a defender -- happy to be convinced if someone can do it with actual data.
Overall, using data not the eye test, Thomas Bryant is better than Turner. He's much better this year, & he was much better last year.
He scores almost 25% more points per 40 minutes, & he does so at a significantly higher TS% than Turner's. He did the same thing last year In fact, Turner's scoring is way below average for a Center, any Center, in the NBA. This year & last year.
Bryant is also a way way way better rebounder than Turner this year -- both defensive & offensive. He was last year as well. & Bryant also gets way more assists.
Turner does get more steals -- doesn't begin to make up for the rebounding gap. & he does block more shots.
You know who is as good as Turner this year? Mo Wagner. In fact... he's a bit better.
Giving Bryant & a pick for Turner would be a step towards undoing the work Tommy has done so far.
SUPERBALLMAN wrote:...Wizards brass views a team of Wall, Beal, Hachimura, Bertans, Turner with bench Wagner, Bonga, TBJ, Robinson, Ish can challenge in the East.
People convince themselves of all kinds of nonsense. Last year, they were pretty sure they'd win 50 games, if you recall.
Leaving Wall out of the equation, that team is worse than this year's team. Adding Wall -- if he plays at the absolutely highest level of his career so far, i.e. as he did in 2016-17 -- that team might win 45 games. Might. & only if he came back at that level. Which he isn't going to do, alas.
If they make the move that is what will happen. I'd hate to see it unfold. But, please do remember that I said it.

Re: Official Trade Thread -- Part XXXVIII
Looking at that lineup you mention, btw --
Hachimura is not a 3, he's a 4 -- & he's not a good 4 either. Not yet. He may become a good player; I hope so. He isn't one so far. Yes, he's been somewhat better since his return, which is a good thing. But, don't go overboard -- he has not been super good, just somewhat better. The idea that you can ink him in as a success in the NBA at this point is plain ridiculous.
Bertans is not a starting NBA 4, no matter how good a shooter he is & no matter how much everyone likes him. He doesn't do enough other stuff nearly well enough. Period. If anyone were to move to the 3, he'd be a better choice than Rui. But, in that case it should be Brown who starts, as Troy Brown Junior is, overall, a much better player than Bertans (& only 20 years old!).
Bertans is playing this year about as well as he played last year. His shooting is slightly down from last year -- but on increased usage, so it's still very very good. Everything else is virtually identical to last year with SA.
A front court next year of those two guys & Turner would not be a winning combination.
Bradley Beal is a terrific player. Is he one of the top 20 players in the NBA? No. & he's not all that close.
John Wall is also a terrific player. At his best, his very best, was he one of the top 5 PGs in the league? No.
It's a terrible terrible vision to follow.

I like Williams a lot and theis is only a partial so he can be cut cheap.id be all for it even if it's Williams and the bucks pick it's still a solid move if you are moving on from Bryant and Williams is an upgrade over admiral. And we pick up an upgrade.

How about an offseason trade for Mo Bamba? Dat rated him #3 in the 2018 draft, ahead of Ayton and Young for instance. He's been stuck behind Vucevic and now also Khem Birch. Maybe a change of scenery could help him?

A trade of Bamba for Wager would probably help both teams?
