What a smart Knicks fan, and initially did the same thing as I and left Booker off.

Simmons is a disgrace to basketball. Even Shaq would shoot more. He is crippling his team on offense and they will never amount to anything in the playoffs unless the coach calls him out for this.
OK boomer.

About midway through the season the Mavs looked like they were tanking. They started the season 25-27, playing very respectable basketball with no one playing a bigger role in that than Luka.

If you're using an 8 game sample of shooting free shots at nearly 75%...that is damning with faint priase. Don't really disagree with your other ponits, but many think his lack of shots is an achilles heel to large to overcome to be a real star.
To be specific it is an 11-game sample. It is true that he needs to hit them in May, but it is unquestionably progress...and you are also seeing it in the FTA per game. More confidence in his ability to hit free throws will lead to more confidence to take it to the rack.
If the Ben Simmons we have seen recently against the Lakers and Clippers is the Ben Simmons we will see moving forward, it is a major development. It is not a coincidence that both the Lakers and Clippers games were games where either Embiid did not start (Lakers) or Horford did not start (Clippers)...which should give Ben more room to go to the rack and get to the line.
I would take Simmons over Kemba or Trae “I whine EVERY FREAKING TIME I go to the rack” Young every day that ends in y.

For the record I doubt any of them are capable of being the best player on a title team. Maybe Zion if he becomes a defense juggernaut.
If you don't think Doncic can't be the best player on a team... uh... I don't know how to help you.
I don’t think you worded that correctly.

I like making fun of Ben as much as the next guy but despite his flaws he's been the best player on a good team this year.

I'll look at the recent Sixers-Grizzlies game if you look at the recent Celtics-Grizzlies game. Tatum guarded Ja and held him to the worst scoring game of his career.
And all that aside, Morant is a rookie so I don't think a guy like Simmons or Tatum having a better game than him really says anything about Morant's future.

maybe not today but the question is moving forward, i can see some arguments for Ja over Ben.\
problem is..and i said this 2 years ago when Ben won ROTY...is he really gonna look that much different in 5 years than he is today?

About midway through the season the Mavs looked like they were tanking. They started the season 25-27, playing very respectable basketball with no one playing a bigger role in that than Luka.
I put up the comparison, with no interpretation & or opinion.
Memphis started out the year 6-16 with a New young head coach, new players, new system & the youngest rotational roster of any team, it's why they were predicted to finish last. They started out as expected. They're now at the allstar break sitting in the 8th seed, going 22-10 over the last couple months under steady progress & Ja's leahership.
Memphis starting rotation -
Jonas - Grizz most productive vet, averages 25mins a game.
3J - who turns 21 in September, struggles with foul issues & staying on court.
Crowder - was averaging 9pts on 36% shooting
Brooks - can light it up but is inconsistent. 20pts one night, zero the next.
Up until the trade for Dieng, Memphis also had no depth behind Jonas. If 3J found himself in foul trouble, Clarke was matchup specific & was often overmatched at C.
With Ja being a drive first PG, Memphis also has less than ideal spacing, only 3J averages 5-6 3's a game. Where Memphis have won several games shooting 5-30+ from 3. Which is why teams like Philly, players like Simmons, Winslow, Ball with their size & length have been able to contain the 160 pounder when Memphis can't hit their outside shot & in turn the teams they play for, blow out Memphis in all instances by doing so. Showing that Memphis goes, as Ja goes.
Memphis is the only playoff team without a representative. As far as I'm concerned. Morant should have been an Allstar. He doesn't have the same raw numbers as others sitting outside the playoffs that have made it. He's was glossed over for playing unselfish winning basketball.

When comparing the Simmons of 2019-20 to the Simmons of 2017-18, the first thing is his defense. He will likely be 1st Team All-Defense this season.
This is an improvement - yes?
And while an 11-game sample size may not be huge, he is averaging over 8 FT attempts a game, with four games of 10+ FT’s (and in each of those games he shot better than 70% from the line). If this is truly more of the norm, this would also be a huge development - right?
The improvement in his TS% from 55.7% his rookie year to 60.7% this season is meaningful as well. I think that his increased confidence in shooting free throws is helping his finishes at the rim become less fling-y and more contact-y. This is another key development.
The one area he MUST improve on is taking care of the ball. Still too many stupid turnovers - particularly when he drives and gets in the air, but then doesn’t know what to do. That is maddening, for sure. But the growth in his game over the past 15-20 games is very real (as just about every NBA observer has noted).
He should be starting tomorrow.

Yeah I'm sure trading away 80% of the starters had something to do with the nosedive. Also the west was a good bit deeper last year with the Warriors, Blazers, and Spurs all in the playoffs.Amare_1_Knicks wrote:Whole Truth wrote:Rookie Doncic - 32.2 mins

Doncic (because he runs your team at a high level and scores the ball; his size means that no one can stop his passes or his shots)
Simmons (enough with the hate, he just needs shooters around him; if Ricky Rubio were 6'10" and could dunk on people...)
Zion (because he's going to be pretty much unstoppable in the paint, like Zach Randolph with a 40-inch vertical)
Ja (because no one can stay in front of him and he makes plays)
Mitchell (because he's really an elite modern point guard)
Tatum (because he's becoming an elite two-way wing who can get a bucket, like a Paul George; he needs to develop his passing)
SGA (because he's like George Hill, only he's 6'6")
Trae (because his shooting stretches the defense and changes the floor)
JJJ (because he's the perfect modern stretch-big with shooting, rim protection, rebounding and floor running)
Booker (because he's a high-volume, high-efficiency shooter who can shoot off the bounce, like Beal)
Fox (once he learns to shoot better, the game will open up for him)
