That's just in cereal terms though.
There's way more food that I miss out on/have to pay a premium in order to get a worse tasting version of

You already pay a premium for everything as you live in the land down under.
Yup.
Housing being the worst of them all... particularly in Sydney. Not exactly sure if there's a truly fair means of rating housing between locations, but even housing that's quite far from the CBD is rather expensive. My house was a 4 bedroom house a good 50-60 minutes from the CBD, and it cost around $600,000 USD back in 2016. Sydney is second to Hong Kong in terms of median dwelling price : household income ratio IIRC.
Oh, and for the cigarette smokers out there, cigarettes are crazily expensive here too. Comparative point - a typical 20 pack of cigarettes is $20.15 US in Australia, and $7.50 over in the US. In some of the poorer countries out there, it's $1-2 lol. If that's not a disincentive to smoke over here, I don't know what is.
(Very glad to not be one of them... I have relatives that spend $200-250 USD a week on cigarettes!

)
Lesson is - if you want to quit smoking, move to Australia and endeavour to buy a house
