Knicks Prioritizing A Scoring Point Guard In Upcoming Draft

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Tue Feb 18, 2020 6:30 am

The New York Knicks reportedly told team scouts that their top priority is drafting a scoring point guard with their top lottery pick, league sources told Marc Berman of the New York Post.

The Knicks currently have the fifth-worst record in the league,

The team's second priority is drafting a shooting guard with 3-point range. The Knicks also have the Clippers first-round pick in the upcoming draft from their Marcus Morris trade.

LaMelo Ball is among the top draft prospects that fit the Knicks paradigm of a scoring point guard, though the team was never able to scout him in person.

Ball signed with Creative Artist Agency, where new team president Leon Rose was expected to be his agent.

payton and frank are not scroing point guards.. what are you on about?

we need a PG desperately.. the last good point guard we had was probably marbury. DSJ is not it. a PG with 65% FT shooting and only dunks wont get you anything.

you need a steph, harden, lillard type of guy at the point, lebron is the exception because hes a transformer. We are in a guards/perimeter league, ive been saying this for years. when your guards cant make a damn shot, you team is doomed.

idk about the next rookie class, didnt do any research on that yer and idk if theres any good guards in next years draft. but its definately the right approach

Gee...what makes me think hoping for the next harden with a top pick is a horrible idea for the Knicks?

Harden was a sixth man for a couple seasons before he became the scoring machine...and the Knicks need a coach first.

When was the last time the knicks. Got an instant starter all star Caliber player in the draft????

Oh right KP...what happened...oh thats Right he got booed on draft day and got stuck with melo ball and horrible coaches. now he's a double double machine and defensive stopper on a playoff team...great trade knicks. Timmy hardaway is doing well too. Go figure.

You know maybe...just maybe it's the organization.....

Lemelo ball will fit right in.

I'm split but given the market size and advantages of NYC I'd say the Knicks beat out the king's for overall incompetence.

Payton is a stop gap on an expiring contract while Frank is a terrible offensive player and DSJ a terrible, complete basketball player with a terrible attitude to match.

I’m not sure why anyone wouldn’t think this is a huge position of need for the Knicks, the problem is that this is a terrible draft for PG’s and there would be nothing more ‘Knicks’ then taking Melo Ball and the circus that would come with him.

Horrible draft for PGs? Point guards are all this draft has to offer other than wiseman, idk what you’re on about.

Big mistake. They're one good power forward away from really turning things around.

I wonder if PF was a position they identified as a priority last off season, and they ended up signing 5-6 veteran PFs.

Shouldn't they just draft the best play available? Everyone in their roster (other than RJ Barrett as some may argue) is replaceable.

Knicks gonna draft 2 PG's, and then go and sign 2 more PG's in free agency, you just watch.

They dodged that bullet...a young cheap PG like Frank or whoever they draft > Lowry.
