NBA league pass is broken... its not what it use to be with the certain features it had and its still too expensive... illegal streams actually provide a much better service better than league and live tv games IMO

what RSNs do you not find on streaming packages?
and when nba players are constantly pimping hulu are we supposed to think viewers on that portal (and other similar services) are not being counted?
what i mean is this . . . nba ratings on cable and networks are down. sure. are we supposed to think that the nba and execs at hulu, youtube etc just throw their hands in the air and say we have no idea how many viewers we have and what they are watching?
hulu etc viewers have counted in ratings for regular shows for years. why not for the nba?
Do you know of any RSNs carried by YouTube tv, ATT TV Now, Hulu TV?
I don’t think it’s something that can be addressed until the next round of TV contracts get agreed to.
maybe i don't know what you mean by RSN? youtube tv has pac 12, big 10, sec, acc, nba tv, tennis channel, fox sports 1, nbc sports, tbs, tnt etc etc etc.
your channel lineup changes by zip code so i imagine people in major markets get YES or whatever exists these days.
i can't imagine how a sports fan could be unsatisfied with youtube tv. it has just about everything i can think of with an unlimited cloud dvr, can be shared with 5 other people (cutting your cost to $10/month) and has no contracts.
ahhh!! i think i know what you mean now. i live in denver and youtubetv does not have altititude sports which shows nuggets/avalanche/rockies. i guess i never noticed that because i'm not from denver and can't stand the local teams.

these are the posts that make me say waaaaaaattttttt?
league pass works like a charm for me. never a problem. and if you put the scores on "hide" mode and watch after the game is over it is only $1.99/game.
what league pass features are no longer available?
what service do you get from the illegal stream that make it better?

Who is motivated to address it?
The TV networks are probably happy to make the NBA numbers look down so they can negotiate the price of the product more aggressively.
The NBA owners probably know the TV networks are suppressing the numbers but happy for them to do that so they can negotiate the CBA more aggressively.
Next CBA comes up a year before next media rights are negotiated. I wouldn't be surprised if NAB and ownership are using these low numbers to negotiate lower player salaries. I hope they are savvy enough to recognize this.

from what I've read. I don't know any sport or entertainment show that is thriving and getting only
stronger year to year.
There's a million entertainment options now from 20 years ago and it makes no sense to pay for cable anymore.
NFL ratings have gone up for 2 or 3 consecutive seasons now and NHL ratings have gone up for 4 consecutive years. When they talk about ratings its not just cable ratings, they include streaming (legal) numbers in this as well.
Let's face it with NHL ratings there was only one way to go but up lol...
Heard NFL ratings were up since they plummeted a few years ago but is it substantially up?
Also what's the point of legal streaming? lol
whats the point of legal streaming?
maybe the principle that if you want something that someone else is selling you pay for it?
do you stand outside people's house and watch tv thru their window?
what else do you steal?

Spoiler:
Yeah I totally misspoke when I said all RSN’s, as I forgot here in LA we do get Fox Sports West and Fox Sports prime ticket, which carry all major sports except the Lakers and dodgers. For the Lakers, they struck a tv deal with spectrum, and right now all carriers only offer those dodgers and Lakers spectrum channels on their traditional cable/satellite packages. You can’t get those channels on any streaming-only package.

They dipped due to the players kneeling incident. But they never plummeted. Yes, they've increased the last 2-3 years.

NBA TV is a part of package in Youtube TV.
I signed up for nba tv Fromm nba.com and the app for Apple TV was horrible. My bedroom can stream Hulu, nextflix and everything else just fine. Nba team would freeze and require a reboot of the app every few minutes.
Close to my experience, I brought league pass and my illegal streaming sites consistently have better quality ,less lagging streams.

the NBA basically begged me to cancel league pass after being a customer for 10 years. every year they gutted features and redid the whole UX. when I first bought it, you could open 4 games at a time, pause, rewind, etc. at any point. the last year I had it, a couple seasons ago, it was one game at a time with no ability to rewind. meaning if you started watching late you couldn't watch from the start and catch up by skipping commercials.
they also added forced ads that played over the video so you couldn't skip them, like this is fckin free youtube and not a premium subscription service that costs $200. it was insulting. they robbed me for several years.
with the use of those streams and tweaking i set it up to mimic those same features LP once had... on those streams...

why go thru the apple tv app then? why not just stream from nba.com?
when i stream league pass thru nba.com it runs more smoothly than anything else i stream.
I assume he wants to view it on a tv with the relative ease of an app.

NFL/Monday night football is American "culture". Its not going away. And its on local channels.
I live in the bay area. I'm about 15 mins driving distance from Oracle Arena (back when the Warriors were good and played there)... and on my local TV stations, I cannot watch Warrior games. Netflix/Hulu has made it pointless for a lot of people to pay for TV cable.. and when Game of Thrones was on, Comcast had a promotion which gave HBO for free.
I believe this Viewership issue is due to technology changes coupled with the inaccessibility of NBA games.
Problem is cable/internet providers have caught up to this and apps like YoutubeTV/Sling/HuluTV are not a means for saving much, if any money over just having a cable subscription.
At least where Im at, standalone Spectrum 100mbps is around $70 per month. A YoutubeTV/Hulu monthly subscription is $55 per month. That comes out to be $125/$135 per month after all of the fees and taxes just to 'cut the cord'. I signed up with them and got internet + 2 digital boxes with all of the sports channels you want for $130 per month.
When you factor in the crazily inflated cost of standalone internet, cable cutting rarely saves you any money from just getting normal cable boxes. Plus you have to deal with stream delay and be 30 sec - 1 min behind the live action so if your looking at your phone during a game you are screwed with spoliers.
The other thing I noticed is a lot of these streaming services dont have NFLN which leaves you in the dark for Thursday Night games and NFL specific content which sucks.

Re: NBA TV Viewership Down: Warriors Dominance to Blame
We're also lacking good rivalries.
Warriors vs Rockets the last few years have been MUST SEE stuff. We knew these teams hated each other and built rosters to topple each other. October, January and March GSW vs HOU games were things I planned to watch.
They play this Thursday at 9:30. I'm not planning my schedule to watch it. I did last year.
I'm looking at the national tv schedule here-
https://www.sportsmediawatch.com/nba-tv-schedule/
Finding must see matchups on that list is getting hard.

Or you live in a place like where I live where the only internet you can get is 6 mbps and with a data cap. So by the end of the month if you stream the quality is extremely poor and you end up with a 200+ dollar internet bill. I tried the cutting cable thing, Im back with DirectTv now.

Great point. I wonder if anyone is actually gonna try to argue that point.
History has shown us that dominant teams are good for the league. The NBA's popularity didn't decrease after the Celtics won 11 titles in 13 years. The NBA's popularity didn't decrease with the dominance of the Lakers and Celtics during the 1980s. The NBA's popularity also didn't decrease when the Bulls won six titles in eight years.
Taking all of that into account, why would the NBA be "ruined" by the Warriors winning three titles in five years? There wasn't even a three peat, yet there are some people who act like they broke the league lol.
