This is what happens when the marketing dept gets a voice in basketball ops.

Speaking of which, when is the cutoff date to re-up season ticket packages? That should be when they actually come clean about Ben's injury.

man, it seems like he was really starting to figure out at least one major aspect of his game. he was looking real good before whatever combinations of injury. what a drag.

The latest science says the main thing with a back injury is to basically keep moving within a range of movement that doesn't aggravate/resensitize the injury and you'll get over the issue much more quickly than if you "rested up".

I type this not really as a comment on Simmons injury but for other posters here who have/will have injured backs.

Yeah by the age of 48 I've had my share of debilitating back injuries. Whatever he has got is unlikely to be career threatening but it could potentially see him miss 4-8 weeks depending on how bad it is. Not exactly fantastic timing.

Bad if it is a significant disc injury. Unlikely to be a stress fracture I would have thought, he is getting past the age for those. Other alternatives are all much better, although a multifidus injury might see him out for weeks but without any long term sequelae. An MRI should exclude or confirm the first two at least.

Chances are that it’s a disc but in any event, somewhere between 2-8 weeks

Sixers are idiots if they suit him up anytime soon

Really, really hoping it is muscular. A disc injury at age 24 changes everything about him.

My guess is they’re probably being extra cautious by ordering the MRI. Back spasms are usually from a muscular source, which can be seen on an MRI, but isn’t necessary because it wouldn’t change how it’s managed.

They are likely ruling out disc issues. Entirely speculation, but it’s possible they saw an abnormal looking vertebral body and wanted to evaluate the tissue surrounding it. If it’s a disc protrusion then we should be pretty concerned.
2025-2026 Philadelphia 76ers:

Maxey/McCain/Lowry
Edgecombe/Grimes/Gordon
George/Oubre/Edwards
Watford/Barlow/Walker
Embiid/Drummond/Bona/Broome

They have to exclude a disc prolapse now the back issue has stopped him 5 minutes into a game. Guys who are approaching 7 feet tall and trans continental plane flights particularly after heavy game time don’t mix well though, and I don’t think back tightness is uncommon, and back spasm can give severe symptoms despite the underlying issue being relatively minor. If he has actually torn a back muscle that would be relatively good if not for the Sixers’ immediate prospects.

Perhaps they should have incentives for players not to make the All -star team.

I'm no expert, but this sounds like a pulled muscle/tightness, and the only way to heal those is with time off. He probably pulled a muscle, took a couple days off thinking it would be ok and re-aggravated it against the Bucks. All in all I don't think it's a big deal. Some of you are overreacting I think.

Well I messed my back up doing of all things....playing basketball.

I couldn't even stand up straight for weeks, walking like the hunch back of notre dame. Couldn't sleep, cough, or sneeze without pain. Chiropractor was useless, told me i would need a back fusion, but go to get injections in it first before that step. Had 3 injections, 2nd worked like a charm, been fine since but I always have to watch my back.

Honestly if you haven't been through it, you don't know anything about it unless your a doctor (and they really don't know either). Your back is the only thing that just can't be 'fixed', and I will be dealing with it for the rest of my life. Luckily, I was only a few years older than Ben when it happened to me while playing ball, so as the doctor said "you have plenty of muscle tissue back there' so I was fine.

I figure Ben will be fine, maybe it will make him work out harder, heck I know now I have to stay in shape. Until otherwise said by news outlets, I don't foresee a problem, but if we rush him back the Sixers doctors need their heads examined.

Never, ever rush a back. Like ever. You can feel good for a day or a week, sleep wrong, your back is screwed up and your in the same boat...not even mentioning basketball. At this point, we know nothing so no reason to get all upset cause it could just be muscular which is absolutely nothing. But if they mention nerves, of which my left leg and foot went numb, forget about it...thats the season.

Impressive but to be that guy....

it also says a lot about the team around him in which assisted 3s are the only 3s anyone can get lol

While you always have to consider that it’s the Sixers, the simple fact that there’s been no announcement leads me to assume that it’s not simply muscular

If it’s serious then sit it out. Makes the most out of our team’s depth.

Time for Al, Burks and GRob to step up.
