Joe Lacob: Kevin Durant Leaving Warriors For Nets 'Made No Sense'

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Mon Feb 24, 2020 8:08 pm

The decision Kevin Durant made to leave the Golden State Warriors left Joe Lacob bewildered.

"I can't get mad when Kevin Durant -- who I felt pretty close with -- decides he's going to leave. Which to me, made no sense," Lacob said Monday morning on 95.7 The Game. "You're (with) the best organization -- I hope he thinks -- in the world.

"Winning, other great players, the new arena. To me, there was every reason in the world to stay. But I'm not gonna be mad at him because it's his life and he earned the right. And for whatever reason, he decided he wanted to leave.

"I can't control that. I tried (laughing)."

Durant leaving OKC for the Warriors made no sense either. But it happened.

He's light years ahead on building a great team, yet light years behind on understanding how players think

Actually that made plenty of sense. You not agreeing with it is your problem.

Of course it made sense to you. Just not to anyone outside of your fanbase.

Anyone it didn't make sense to is an idiot. Playing under Brooks and Donovan in OKC was just him and Westbrook taking turns play iso ball. It was time for a change.

Playing in GS unlocked other areas of his game.

You don't need to be a Warriors fan to accept he needed to get out of OKC.

The coaching sucked and Presti couldn't find shooting to save his life.

KD's final year there they had no one that could space the floor besides KD and Serge Ibaka.

Should’ve told Durant they’d trade draymond in the offseason if he stayed.
The team would’ve been Better if they traded for a spacer with D, ( still would’ve had their rookie 4s this year) while looking like they « only » had 3all stars. Well 2 with klay coming back from his injury.

Yet they were up 3 to 1 against the Warriors and he was one of the main reasons that OKC wasn't able to close that series out.

It made no sense for him to leave OKC to join the 73 win championship favorites who already had THE guy in Steph. If he's supposed to be the best player in the world (in his mind) then he should have gone after his legacy and try to win one with him being THE guy.

Want to leave OKC because of the coach, Russ, or whatever the reason, then there were other choices that would have kept his legacy intact while having a great chance at winning a championship. The Spurs and Clippers, for example, were able to sign him. They had great coaching and a more than respectable team ready for KD to lead to the promise land.

He left the Warriors because of his legacy. He didn't join the Clippers or Lakers this past off season to join Kawhi or LBJ and AD because he's trying to repair his legacy. Unfortunately, it may be too late for him to repair it.

You seem overly sensitive about this subject. That would be your problem.

Legacy? He's going to go down as one of the top 15 greatest players of all time. That's a lousy argument.

Win Championships or continue to lose in the WCF? Pretty easy decision, no?

One of the greats in terms of being able to score the basketball, sure, but top 15 might be pushing it a bit. At least based on his current career.

There will always be an asterisk on his championships with the Warriors. They could have won those without him. He was never THE guy, that was Steph's team. To be in the conversation of top 15 players ever you have to lead your team to multiple championships.

Now, if he can get the Nets a couple championships before he's done then that's a different story, but thats a very big IF at this time.

He left for the same reasons as he left OKC -- KD is a selfish snowflake.

It made no sense to break up 73-9 team.
