Rebuild the Nuggets Roster

Post#1 » by NuggetsWY » Tue Feb 25, 2020 1:45 am

Who should a roster be built around? You have two choices in my opinion.
#1 - A coach's system
#2 - Your star player(s)

If the Nuggets are to be built around Malone's system, it would seem they should trade all of their young talent except Jokic and maybe Murray and trade as many draft picks as possible and accumulate a lot of veterans. Some might be near their peak, some may be near the end of their career. That approach could possible build a contender in just a year, maybe two. The flaw in this approach is, the team will only contend for a couple of years.

*** *** ***

If the Nuggets are to be built around our star player(s), we need to identify who our star player(s) are. Then we need to identify what type of players we should add around him/them.

Jokic is clearly our #1 player. What does he need around him?

Should any other players be called star?

We are a deep team with one star and one superstar. That is enough for big regular-season success, but I'm not sure about our playoff ceiling.

For bigger success, we need a third big contributor. Millsap was signed as 4-time all-star, but he was far from his peak already 1st season, and now he is 35 old. Harris flirted at some point with the possibility to become a great two-way player, but he turned into a onedimensional defensive specialist. Malone called Barton player who deserved to be mentioned this season about all-star selection, but that is an ultra-biased statement far away from reality, and which is worse, Barton is a bad fit for Jokic based system.

But we have potential 3rd star in the roster even if our FO can't trade to get him or sign him from the FA market. It's Michael Porter Jr, and if Denver coach and management don't think he is ready to be our TOP3 option in near future, we can instantly get for him some max-player level like Beal or Ingram already this summer, now when rebuilding teams realize that his health is not that big issue as it seems two years ago.

The worst scenario is to not doing anything and just enjoy the moment the next 3 seasons with guaranteed playoff TOP4 seeds. For me, more your team is good - more you have reasons to try to improve it and make some history!

This seems like another "I HATE MICHAEL MALONE" thread.....just sayin'

Whatever new coach comes in is gonna have his own system, one that he believes will win it all, just like Malone...whether he's right or WRONG !!

That said, I am beginning to believe Malone is our Mark Jackson.

Nah. This is a step in the right direction. You realize the team needs a 3rd guy more than we need to brag about 11th guy or 13rh guy or 9th.

Just gave away the trade Capitol for money savings (Beasley, hernangomez) and then FAILED HUGE by NOT trading Harris, Barton, Millsap and their 60 mill in trade value

It needs to be an athletic finisher

Jokic’s super unique game.... Murray.....

Team needs an “easy basket” and “finisher” and “runner”

Zach LaVine?

I think Malone is perfect for this ownership. He’s a stud. But they’ll be able to blame him when it’s time. Because he’s not given a shot to win it all, so he has to try to manipulate things

Make the trade for Bradley Beal, Jokic needs that second co star , don't waste his prime years.

So you think WAS will take Harris and Barton + draft picks for Beal or do you have a different plan on how to take on Beal's $29M salary ??

We should have just under $20m to go after a free agent. What position do we want? I'd say a wing player. Who could we reasonably expect to get?

I'd like Ingram or Bogdanovic. They are both restricted. Bogdanovic might be more available simply because of the Kings roster and money already spent. Either can probably play both wing slots.

There are quite a few other players available and some could be attractive, depending on the money (of course I am assuming we resign Grant as well).

In theory, the best thing about the upcoming summer market for Nuggets is the fact that Barton now has value. The problem now is Harris which is hard to trade due to bigger contracts.

With not re-sign Plumlee and Millsap, and if we trade Harris using HOU-20, we can open space for notable FA name. But some former interesting options like Gallinari or expiring Markkanen is maybe not so attractive because Porter covers that kind of good shooting forward.

Gallinari maybe could be in the 20 range?

Nugs will need to re sign Plumlee, Craig, and Grant.

The only realistic way of getting a FA is through sign and trade. Using Harris, Barton, or wishfully thinking Millsap

I wouldn't object to Bogdanovic but he probably doesn't want to come off the bench and that's probably where he'd be.

Lavine is a big no thank you and Wiggins is an absolutely positively no way I'd welcome him.

So I’m saying griffin + Luke kennard and D Rose = Gary Harris, Barton, (s+t) millsap and 2022 and 2024 1sts, 2023 pick swap option is fair

T+t board says take out 2024 1st and 2023 pick swap option

Trade the 2022 1st for Blake G? And Rose?

I love Kennard as a Nug
