I know they say you can't time the market, but I started investing a few months ago, I was up about 25%. I'm almost evened out now though lol. I feel a little dumb because I always heard the market was overvalued and I still put a decent amount of money in since I had a bunch sitting in cash.

Anyways, I'm kind of looking forward to this. This will obviously be my first downturn I'm experiencing. So I feel this will teach me. I just wish I sat on that cash a little more.

I haven't panic sold anything yet. However, I feel I have made some panic buys.

I upped my weekly contributions so I can use dollar cost averaging while it goes down. What do you guys think?

I still have about 30% cash in my portfolio as my emergency fund. Depending how cheap things get, I might look into putting that into the market a few months from now or wait till after the election. My car is over 10 years old, so that is one thing I am really worried about. And of course, the virus or any other tragedy to me or my family.

Yeah this correction is more than Coronavirus, IMO. Seemed like people were looking for a reason to sell.

Global supply chain being shut down in China is a big deal. Canadian railroads being down for like a week (maybe more?) also going to be a big deal.

Almost pulled the trigger today, but I don't think it's bottomed out yet. Maybe just before the February jobs report. I think the day after Super Tuesday will be volatile depending on the results.

Wish I had the $$ to buy in right now but all I've done is buy more company stock and dump existing mutual funds for more company stock. We had an ipo last year, and now about 30% of the company is publicy owned. After a few acquisitions and all these damn baby boomers retiring we ran into a bit of debt but our sales forecast is strong for the future. Hoping it pays off so I can retire before 60 lol!

Definitely keeping my eye on Amazon, Msft, and apple to see how bad things get. Probably start loading in next week knowing I may take some initial pain but a discount is a discount.

Going back and forth on whether or not I should join the airbnb IPO when it occurs, anyone with actual knowledge, unlike myself, have some advice?

Past corrections rebounded in about 4 months on average. But a few more percent and it's no longer a correction, it's a bear market. Those take longer to rebound.

I max out my 401k but I'm thinking about bumping it up now and maxing it out by October although I'll probably leave it as is. I max out my Roth but do it in monthly increments. I'm pondering plowing it all in now for 2020 but I might wait a few days and see what happens.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

The benefit of having a wife that spends all my money is that I don't have to worry about stock market corrections.

The Dow is down another 4.5% so far this morning. Nearly 15% in the past 5 days. Corrections are normal, and not particularly scary, but there's panic in the air, and I suspect we're headed for a bear market.

I know you're not supposed to do this out of principle but as of yesterday would it not have been a decent idea to just pull your money out of the market in your 401k?

I have not and will be pumping more in soon, but it is a near certainty that it was going to go down today and probably will a bit more before leveling off for a while.

This may or may not belong here but would those with mortgages refi if you're at 4.375% interest? Credit is good, all on time payments, a little bit of equity after 1.5 years.. but I honestly don't know if I'll be in the house for more than 5 years. Someone at work claims they just got a 3% rate on a traditional 30 year which seems crazy

Put a little hedge in SPXS this morning. We'll see how far I want to take this.

Yes, absolutely! You can easily get 3.25% with no costs right now. Take a higher rate and even get cash back if you want. I've refi'd probably 4 times in the past 2 years. Getting pretty good at it :)

I've got an itchy trigger finger that has me wanting to buy a some calls on stocks that I think will rebound over the next 3-6 months.

No closing costs is key - then it's essentially a free lower payment. I just went on lending tree for craps and giggles and saw 3.125% with no closing fees from a company called Lower. Also - never sign up on lending tree, I've received 4 calls in less than 5 minutes lol

Yeah now might be a good time to do some buying if you have some cash. This may not be the bottom but trying to time the absolute bottom is pointless. I think I'm going to fully fund my 2020 Roth IRA today. Monday at the latest. Still thinking about bumping up my 401K to front load it for this year but that takes 1-2 pay periods to kick in and I get paid every 2 weeks so maybe I'll just hold firm on that.

Busy as hell with kids, but refinancing has been kinda on the horizon for a while.

My wife works for a large national bank in their marketing dept so our initial rate was dropped like .25% as a benefit. She also is talking to contacts there to get the US Bank options.

So I went over to LendingTree as mentioned on here to just put my info in for loan rates so we have a comparison point.

Holy ****, I clicked submit and got bukkaked with texts, calls, and emails. Oops.

So might the idea of taking cash out on a refinance be to either dump more into the market sometime in the near future or I guess be more prepared to buy a new house/invest in rentals?

I have barely looked into this, just taking a very early look at refinance options through LendingTree but the idea would be to start over a 30 year mortgage, say my old one had $250 left in it, I'd bump it up to $275 or $300 and get $25-50k of cash up front?

I have 3.25% mortgage but thinking about grabbing $25k for home improvements. If I can get a slightly lower rate and extra cash, this should make sense right (versus HEL)? Any suggestions- Still recommend lending tree?

Be. ****. Careful.

I just tried lendingtree just as a starting point to compare with my wife's contacts at the bank she works at.

I put in factual information on their site for my email, phone, etc. because I do potentially plan to go through them.

I clicked "Submit" 30-45 minutes ago.

I have gotten 5 texts, 10 calls/voice-mails, and 5 emails so far.
