this is why you, or i, or this forum as a whole, would make a better manager than ned yost. we would generally play the numbers, and NOT put in the guy who just got demoted to the bullpen for sucking as a pitcher.
ned yost uses his gut and his heart, and not his head. perhaps the most pivotal game of the season thus far, and yost plays the same losing cards he's been playing since 24-10.
oh and the dumb f*^& got himself on national television saying our ship is sinking. brilliant. and why, mr. yost, do you think that is??????
Because he has a big hole in his bucket?

You know, MadCity, Kevin Mench did have, what, 2 RBIs tonight?

But that was vs left handers. His numbers bad vs right handers. While Jenkins is bad vs lefties while great vs righties. Thats Why Yost rotates them depending on match ups. So Yost went against his own logic. Just stupid.

you got to take a pitch mench. i mean was mench watching the game. Did he see the friggin pitches braun got. That hart got. How do you not take at least the first pitch.

Corey hart really screwed us with anther loss ball in the lights cost us two runs. Get some friggin sun glasses.

Crappy acted like Crappy. But no one else for long relieve unless we use matt wise for four innings. Saturday will come. Hopefully we see Vinny Rotino or at least i am looking foward to seeing him. Tony Gwynn Jr my home boy. CV should be back up. Anybody else brewers looking at to bring up i know they can bring up like 6.

That right there just proves he's bad luck. I think most of us would agree that going against Yost's "logic" would normally result in making the right call. He finally does it, and it backfires like everything else.

Thanks for a great series guys.
You guys were great and polite the whole series.
Good to see two rival boards cooperate and help out one another in such a big pennant race.
Good luck the rest of the way.

This is why Yost is a horrible manager you need to put your team in the best position to win not the 3rd or 4th like what happened tonight.

I'm going to need some help with this because I only caught the 9th inning so can someone tell me why Gross came in to pinch hit for Hall and what the situation was?

Anyways even though I was only here for the 9th inning I can't believe Ned didn't pinch hit for Mench.

Mench vs RHP .215/.250/.306/.556
Jenkins vs RHP .271/.334/.503/.337

I saw Mench standing in the on deck circle during Hart's AB and honest to God I said to my buddy "Hell you might as well walk Hart to get to Mench because he'll just swing at the first pitch and either pop up or ground out."

Ned Yost wrote:"Mench was 0-for-1 off [Dempster] lifetime, so 'flow of the game' kind of won over for me right there," Yost said. "There was no heads or tails big advantage, hitting-wise, to pull a guy cold off the bench."

You have got to be kidding me. Flow of the game? You're a numbers guy Ned LOOK AT THEM! And the guy coming off the bench cold is going to have a better chance of bringing in the run than Mench in that situation.

He also said something about Jenkins being 4-18 off Dempster or something well one of those 4 hits is a homerun and he also has 4 walks for a .364 OBP.

Compare those numbers off Mench's career vs righties which are .255/.310/.421/.731 and then Jenkins career numbers vs righties .290/.359/.527/.887.

This alone should get him fired as this move is indefensible.

He hasn't been pinch hitting with his platoon in LF all year. He's a moron.

Tom Haudricourt wrote:The Brewers had their chance to avoid another tough loss in the ninth, when they loaded the bases with two outs against Cubs closer Ryan Dempster, who walked Corey Hart to force in a run. But Kevin Mench bounced to short on the first pitch he saw from Dempster to end the game.

Mench was hitting .215 against right-handers and Yost had Geoff Jenkins, a .271 hitter against righties, available on the bench. But Yost said he didn't consider Jenkins' career numbers against Dempster (4 for 17) compelling enough to make a switch.

When Tom Haudricourt realizes this and says something you know you **** up.

My MOM is even saying that was a dumb move at the end putting in Kevin Mench. Now when she is complaining about him you KNOW it's bad.

Damn if only Jenkins had been 5-17 (.294) instead of 4-17 (.235) against Dempster. Maybe then he would've put him in. What a moron. Only one more month.
