Dougie Nears Return

Update: Mientkiewicz (wrist) had three hits in five at-bats Wednesday with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, Newsday reports.

Recommendation: He should return from the disabled list Saturday and further confuse the Yankees first base situation.

Good thing the roster is about to expand. Who thinks he's going to force himself into the rotation? Who loses the time? Is Andy the casualty? Giambi?

(crickets)

Sorry, but I'd rather have Duncan, Phillips, and Giambi, who's been making some terrific plays lately, on first and in the lineup.

I love defensive specialist first basemen.

Eyechart will be on this team soon because the rosters expand. But if we make the playoffs Philips will get the roster spot. Betemit hits right handers really well and Phillips hits lefthanders really well... Doug only hits righthanders well so he is pretty redundant.

I agree. I was kind of hoping Doug would stay hurt all year so we could spare him the embarrassment of being left off the post-season roster.

If Mientkiewicz could play second third and short he would matter, but he doesn't so *crickets* is right.

On September 1 all Major League teams are allowed to carry 40 players until the postseason, at that time rosters must be cut back down to 25 players

Surprisingly, Phillips is pretty awful against lefthanders with a .628 OPS, and an even worse career .535 OPS. But I still like him more than Douggie and Phillips plays 1B nearly as well.
