Spike can go if he wants to, but there will be no coming back and the respect will be lost forever. Still, if he does switch sides, it will show how poorly the Knicks have been run under Dolan and how the Nets are taking all his sheet. And with how Knicks fans have suffered, any slight against loyal Knicks fans (including Spike here) is unacceptable honestly.

Lee estimates he spends about $300,000 per season on courtside tickets.

"I'm coming back next year, but I'm done for this season," he said. "I'm done."

The Brooklyn native added that he'll never take up fandom of the Nets in protest.

"The Barclays Center is four blocks away from my office," Lee said. "Can't do it."

When you think about the Knicks, first name that comes to your mind is Spike Lee. Show that man some respect. Yes he's a fan, he could have easily stopped coming to the games. Dolan is just some spoiled rich kid. He dont care about you or me. Defending that bozo in this day and age is mind boggling.

I don't think of Spike at all. I think of the players on the 4 teams that went to the finals in my lifetime. "F" Spike!

Don’t care where you work. In this situation, the man has been allowed to do it for 28 years. So if you change the policy, is it irrational to think he should be notified prior via email or automated phone call? Is that really too much to ask? If anything, it avoids another PR nightmare. Well, here we are!

They said they asked repeatedly and honestly I don’t know who to actually believe now since spike unnecessarily lied about shaking hands and speaking with Dolan.

That’s how in this instance I can’t see how anyone taking a side.

Who said they asked repeatedly? I need context. I haven’t read the quote but that could be interpreted as asking repeatedly last night. Where Spike admitted he refused. I need context to ascertain whether Spike had prior knowledge of this policy change. Cuz if it was thrown on him suddenly last night, I could understand the paranoia considering how everyone saw what Dolan has done to Oakley and fans who’ve been ejected by security.

Spike Lee should be given the right to ride any elevator, piss in any bathroom, drink whatever the hell he wants. He represents the types of fans every organization wants.. and needs to run successfully. To make a mockery of him is saying a lot to all the others who have been loyal for so many of these bad Knick years.

Spike Lee should be in the superfan hall of fame, not on ESPN defending his integrity

^why, because a customer didn't get the preferential treatment he felt entitled to? We know Spike wasn't completely honest in his account? So why believe anything else. as far as I'm concerned, its a non issue and its not even media worthy. Show how Lazy the media is.

Steve Stoute needs to go, not even 2 months after he was hired. What does that say about Dolan?

Someone please counter-argue this. I’d love to hear it.

This is true, the definitely need to be more clear on if they asked prior or last night. However the way it was worded, it implies that they asked on more than one occasion. Spike also said he stopped using the ramp because of the new policy almost a month ago, so this seem to me like an ongoing issue that blown up in everybody face last night.

In my opinion , it’s spike, let him use the entrance unless it’s a safety issue. Still doesn’t excuse the fact I think he handled it wrong though.

If Leon puts together a winning product, everything changes.

On the bright side, opposing players aren’t getting as hyped as they used to. I’ve been going to games since 1985, and there’s something about the mystique that’s just kind of gone. And at this point, it’s not just gone. It’s long gone.

Just flash back to to the last time the Knicks were winning and you'll recall the mystique.

The MVP caliber Amare era with Mike D, the Linsanity run, and the Melo/Woodson playoff era were absolutely electric at the garden every night.

Bring back winning, and the mystique returns.

Yes I hear you. But I think you may be overselling it some, or at the very least discounting the possibility that Dolan has done some permanent damage to the brand/reputation.

Celebrities have children or ARE children themselves. The Knicks haven’t made any new fans for over 20 years now. It’s a real problem despite the $5B valuation.

At the end of the day, I might be mad at the way Spike handled that situation by going on First Take, but for a loyal front row season ticket holder - who spent his money and repped the Knicks through thick and thin - to be treated this way is unacceptable. I’ve been involved in professional situations where prominent people couldn’t get the level of treatment they were used to. In those cases, you inform them in advance, you share a rationale, you manage their expectations while showing your empathy and your willingness to make up for it. It’s not that complicated. Dolan’s statement (which is ridiculously unprofessional) might be right about the facts, but whatever he communicated to Spike at the Garden was too little too late. Dolan is complacent and takes Knicks fans for granted.

Of course, I’m not justifying Spike’s petty and childish appearance on First Take. But a fellow Knicks fan can be forgiven for his frustration.

I'm Ok with this and think its being blown WAY out of proportion. So what, he's told he can't use this entrance anymore. Its such a minor thing and so what you wasn't told. For all we know the policy just came down from Leon who only took over this weekend. Spike might not have read his text but, even if he didn't get one. Oh well. **** happens and it wasn't like they told him, you can't park here, go around the corner. No, just use another freaking entrance. No freaking biggie at all.

Spike made a mockery of himself. "Superfan hall of fame" Give me a break...dude goes to like 5-10 nationally televised games a year. Just because he contributes a large sum of money he should be able to break standard rules at any place? Yes, maybe the Knicks should have communicated with him earlier, but to act like a petulant child when you get asked to follow protocol is ridiculous.
