Dolan should have just been like , hey it's Spike let him through, but next time tell him he has to go through the other exit. THAT'S ALL!!!!
The customer is always first. Dolan should know that. And alienating one of his biggest customers is absolutely laughable.

How was he treated unfairly?

No one put hands on him, they simply stopped the elevator he was in and told him the entrance is for employees only, he has to go to the other VIP entrance from now on.

Spike was the one that took it to another level and thought he was getting Oakley'd out the Garden.

If there's anyone to blame, I blame the MSG employee that scanned his ticket. Spike does have a point that once you scan a ticket you can't exit and re-enter the arena.

That was Pat, not Oak.

I got to hang out once in Atlanta getting sh*tface drunk w/Oak. Dude is a major card, not afraid to drink, gamble, or womanize. But he was always cool to me and other fans.

The first time I ever met him was on a hotel elevator in Chicago the night before game 2 of the 1992 playoffs, which was a Sunday matinee. He got on that elevator with not one but two blondes going back to his room around 11pm the night before a 12:30 tip off.

WHAT are you talking about. That was ME at his carwash. Dude rolled his eyes, got in his car and started blasting his music.

Ohhhhh fair enough. I’ve seen Pat act that way around fans, especially kids. He was a d*ck to me several times, and I’d laugh if Dolan kicked him out.

Still doesn’t excuse Dolan, though.

I have a big problem with Spike Lee going on that garbage program on ESPN that's already very anti-Knick and unload in the manner he did. If you have a problem with the Garden, bring it up directly with the head members of the organization.

What exactly did Spike gain to benefit from going on First Take yesterday? He looks like a parasite for airing dirty laundy like that; if he feels like he was mistreated because security told him he needed to be escorted through a different set of doors, bring it up quietly to Dolan or someone on his staff. There was no reason for him to bring this thing to the forefront of the sports pages. It was supposed to be Leon Roses' day and Spike decided to go on First Take and play the role of a multimillionaire martyr. Sorry if I don't shed any tears for someone like him.

Dolan could've easily diffused this situation. Just swallow your pride, explain to Spike the new rules being promulgated in the arena, apologize again for any misunderstanding, and leave it at that. He definitely didn't need to respond yesterday in the manner that he did through the Knicks' PR; him staying silent would've been a much more professional route to take. But if I was in his shoes, I'd be angry also. If he really did diffuse the situation with Spike considering (as the photo potentially shows,) than it makes no reason for Lee to go on First Take and just trash the organization.

But than again this is the same opportunistic parasite that was making Mars Blackmon commercials with the #1 enemy of the Knicks in the early 90's Mr Michael Jordan. So I never really looked at Spike as some defacto representative of this team. He's just some guy that's been rich for over half his life and wants everyone- including ESPN- to know how inconvenient this isolated episode was for him. Poor Spike.

A side of Spike was clearly hoping to get banned so he could play the victim card à la Oakley.

I didn't follow this story at all tbh. At this point, it's tiring to see this.

But all I can say is no matter whose fault it is, this is a bad look for the team. Players around the league don't want to see Oakley and Spike Lee treated like.

Spike probably does have some form of disability. Definitely has it in his head for thinking he's been done wrong.

marketing. this is really not his area.

deciding who uses what entrance is likely done by whoever the head of security is.
the press releases are done by the public relations department. whoever is in charge of that, that's who they need to fire, because he can't talk dolan down from escalating these situations.

I’ve been around MSG since 1985. My first game, my dad snuck in 2 kids on 1 ticket by carrying one of us through the turnstiles. Things have changed, but one thing is for damn sure...

The decision to make Spike take a separate entrance most certainly did not come from the head of security. That’s above his pay grade.

I have zero care or love for Spike but high profile fans actually putting on blast the ridiculous nonsense that goes on at MSG, while they've consistently fielded the worst team in the league for 20 years now is a good thing. The Knicks dont get nearly they flack that they should from a national media level standpoint. The product has been literally unwatchable for 20 years.

100% this

Espn wrote a piece on the Knicks lack of shooting coach. Two days later we have a shooting coach. Steve Stoute goes on espn and f*cks up, two days later Mills is finally fired.

Spike going on espn is exactly how to get results from Dolan.

Spike must be a very paranoid man when he's in the Garden.
If your allowed to go through employee entrance for years and suddenly one day you get told you can't isn't that a problem? This is probably stoute rose doing Dolan just doesn't care about fans loyalty.

Idk what that’s supposed to mean, but if it was the unilateral decision of the head of security, then he needs to be fired and MSG needs to release one of their famous press releases.

The reason it can’t be an employee is precisely because of the public backlash you’re seeing right now. A high profile customer like Spike would require upstairs approval or you’d see heads rolling and public apologies ASAP.

Telling a guy who's been using the same entrance for 30 years to leave the arena and come back from another entrance is petty and lame. Anyone who thinks Spike doesn't have at least a decent argument to make is simply not looking at this the right way.

He definitely has an argument. I mean 10 million Dollars over 28 years...is a lot of money. Aside from that he's liek the most visible Knick fan out there. Basically our "Jack Nicholson" . Not sure if Dolan was trying to prove a point. If so why now?

Dolan does come over to shake Spikes hands though...why do that if he was trying to alienate the dude. Is he really that fake? It all really makes no sense.
