Re: Around the NBA (Non-Celtics) 2019-2020 Part II
But Prokorov told us they had such a great culture compared to the Celtics.
I wonder what happened to mess up that culture? Couldn’t be Kyrie or KD. No chance.

Very strange, the Nets getting rid of Atkinson. He did a hell of a job building a program and developing players. I thought he got them to overachieve to a high degree. Well, the Nets stupidity will be some other franchise's gain. Just really weird to me, but as that one tweet said, "If Kyrie and Durant wanted Atkinson to be there, he'd still be there."

A fine coach for developing young guys, but he was in over his head in terms of managing egos. Brad had a tough time catering to egos last season. Would have been a disaster for Atkinson trying to do the same thing with KD and Kyrie next year. The guy looked like he aged 10 years over the past season. Might as well start fresh.
I do find it funny that they made this decision right before the playoffs though.

Also breaking news: Khris Middleton is no longer (currently) part of the 50-40-90 club.

Kyrie is really a problem. Big problem.
Glad he ain't here anymore. Feel sad for some Nets fans though. Their fanbase deserves better(not all of them).
Atkinson will find another job pretty easily(pelicans?)

Here is the thing about Dolan. On paper he's the perfect owner. Loves his team, willing to spend whatever money is needed to build a contender, wants to win, wants to hire the biggest name talent no matter what the cost. In theory you'd much rather have that type of owner than someone who is cheap and disinterested like Paul Gaston who just saw the team as an investment.
But yet everything is all wrong. So wrong that someone toying running for Mayor wants this as part of his platform.
Some of it was bad management. You had Scott Layden blowing the cap overpaying role players followed by the mind mindbogglingly bad Isiah Thomas going "double or nothing" trying to assemble the most expensive group of big name malcontents ever assembled. Then here was he weird Phil Jackson era where his moves wouldn't be that bad if he wasn't trying to get his coaches to coach a system (the triangle) which only exactly one coach in the NBA (Phil Jackson) has ever successfully implemented.
But it has been mostly impatience. Occasionally he did bring in good people like say Donny Walsh who helped cleaned up the cap. But rather than accepting you have to be real bad for awhile, get cap space, and young players and THEN go for it he would brush aside the competent people for a win-now agenda. Which is basically where they are. It has been obvious despite public pronouncements the Knicks have been tanking, You could argue RJ Barrett and Kevin Knox aren't the ones. Just means you have to trade them for more draft picks or other young players and reshuffle the deck until you get a good core. They signed some odd short term contracts. But the type you can trade for a second or a last first round pick.
Given how long the Knicks have been bad it is tough for fans to accept they are at year zero and a lot more pain is in store. But fans are not the problem. It's the owner. Trade for Chris Paul? Huh? Yeah. He might get you into the playoffs. But for what?
Both us and Philly showed that you can be really really bad and the fans will buy in if they believe you have a plan. But no one should aspire towards mediocrity. Good ownership shouldn't be looking for 40 degree days.

I hope Atkinson signs with Pelicans or Chicago, those are the best options for him.

Guess who is tied for the Sunsall-time record for threes in a game (with 9)?
Aron Baynes. He has insayne last night.
37 pts and 16 rebounds last night in a win over Portland.
I thought you all would enjoy seeing that since there is still a fondness for Baynes among Celtics fans. Good luck on your season.

This guy apparently has sources. He knew KD/Kyrie were going to the Nets apparently before it happened, before Woj/Shams reported it.
He's not happy over the Atkinson thing.

This is true and has led to the Knicks not winning anything since the 70s. One would think they'd rethink their strategy. It's almost like an entitlement issue being a NY team. Their only title is from 1970! That's before I was born and I am no spring chicken. I find it hilarious, yet sad all the same. I mean, it becomes a headline when Spike Lee says he's not attending games any more and it actually hurts attendance? What a bunch of freaking losers. Thank god I am not a fan of that team. Embarrassing organization.

It's weird timing, but I do agree Kenny looked like he aged a lot this season. Kinda funny though since in the games Kyrie did play in, they let him do whatever he wanted. He shot the most, he took most of the hero shots etc. He basically did what he wanted with doctors and timelines and his injuries too.
My guess is they want more of a puppet coach and they feel Kenny's system is too rigid. Kyrie and KD want to play "My turn your turn" basketball and want DJ to start and for Allen to hit the road.
Not sure about Caris and Spencer now.
I actually would bet a thousand dollars that Kyrie was jealous of the night Caris had in Boston this week, 51 points in a win at the Garden is a major accomplishment and makes Kyrie's perfect game against the Bulls at home this year look like nothing. Kyrie had a 50 point game early in the season in a loss at home to the Wolves and fell down during the potential game winner.
Kyrie/KD wanted the Nets to tank more and fall out of the playoffs so they can use this pick for trade bait too I would bet and Atkinson still wanted to try to make the playoffs for the good of the culture.
Either way I wasn't picking the Nets to go far in the future anyway. Don't give a crap who they add to the team, I was once a huge fan of Kyrie's but I would never ever pick a team with Irving to be a contender again unless prime Lebron is jumping on board. Kyrie and KD are just crap to me now, don't even care what that team does. They will win some games if they are hot shooting and healthy but they are garbage humans.
edit: If you remember reload this time last year too saying it, he was saying Kyrie kinda wanted Brad out too.

I guess we'll see if a 32 yr old KD coming off an Achilles injury is worth all of this.

Is there something about being in NYC that makes it impossible to run a basketball team well?
