The Brewers are closing in on an extension with righty Freddy Peralta, according to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic (via Twitter). It’ll be worth a guaranteed $15.5MM over a five-year term.

Peralta will also give the Milwaukee organization a pair of club options in the pact. They could tack on another $14.5MM in total value if exercised.

Good move.

If the slider works out for him and is a thing, this is a steal for the Brewers. He could become a frontline guy.

If not, then good for Freddy, not bad for the Brewers. They're basically guaranteeing some of the arbitration that he may or may not have made it to.

I think it's a great deal, especially if he takes off.

The Peralta deal could end up a major steal for the Brewers. I hope Peralta did it simply for financial security and not because he had loans out that often prompt some Latin American players to do these early extensions and end up costing them a chunk of cash in the long-term.

As McCalvey accurately notes, this is indeed the good stuff.

Really hope they give Burnes a strong look, especially if he's effectively using his slider now. We need some ceiling in the rotation.

First I have seen of Lauer, looks like he has pretty good stuff, but wish they would have had the radar up.

The most important bat to me in spring is LoCain.

I only really pay attention to spring numbers for rebound guys or, "can he repeat?" types and in an extremely limited sample, Cain is doing alright. Let's hope his slugging % is up this spring and we can start to assume that last year's struggles were due to the finger injury.

Didn't he have like 5 different injuries? Wrist, thumb, ankle, knee, oblique?

Yeah, probably. I'm sure most affected him.

It would be amazing to see them start a pitcher for an inning they had no intention of keeping on the roster this season
