BYRON JONES
DB, DALLAS COWBOYS

The Dallas Morning News reports Byron Jones is expected to hit free agency.

The Cowboys met with Jones's agent at the Combine, but there seems to be a "shared understanding" that he won't be re-signed. This doesn't come as a surprise with Dallas prioritizing extensions for Amari Cooper and Dak Prescott. 27-year-old Jones should reset the cornerback market.

ROGER GOODELL
C, UNSIGNED FREE AGENT

NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reports the NFL and NFLPA are projecting a salary cap of "roughly" $200 million per club for 2020.

That projected mark is roughly $12 million more than last year's salary cap ($188.2 million), and only stands to increase in 2021 and beyond. Pelissero adds that the new league year remains on track to begin as scheduled on March 18 since the players are expected to vote for ratification sometime next week. The fact that the NFLPA's board of player representatives voted to send the final product to their entire membership means it's only a matter of time before it inevitably passes.

He played for Shanahan (while an Offensive Coordinator) in 2014 (Browns) and 2016 (Falcons); in those 2 seasons combined, Gabriel caught a total of 71 passes for 1200 yards. Gabriel reportedly ran a 4.27 40 in college, which would match Marquise Goodwin's time at the 2013 combine. He was scheduled to make $5.5M next season when the Bears cut him, so he should be able to be signed on the cheap. If Lynch and Shanahan decide not to re-sign Sanders, Gabriel could be the affordable speed guy that the team currently lacks who is already familiar with the Shanahan playbook.

If Gabriel can return kicks and is super cheap then I’d be on board. We need to upgrade James in the worst way, we also need a burner who could stretch the field. I like the kid from TCU, he was a first rounder coming into this year but now is looking more like a 3rd rounder. He’s a 4.2 guy who works as an effective WR and a great KR/PR guy

I want us to bring this kid in as an undrafted FA solely to come in compete with James and Pettis as our return specialist:

ISAIAH WRIGHT
WR, TEMPLE OWLS

Athlon Sports named Temple senior WR Isaiah Wright to their preseason All-American first-team as a punt returner.

Wright (6'2/220) averaged 13.4 yards on his 19 returns last year while taking two to the house. Not bad at all. If he lives up to this preseason honor, Wright could be in the mix as an undrafted free agent, solely based on his punt return skills. However, the NFL likely doesn't view Wright as a receiver prospect since he hasn't reached 700 yards in his first three seasons at Temple.

JAMES BRADBERRY
DB, CAROLINA PANTHERS

ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reports free agent CB James Bradberry is seeking $15 million annually.

Bradberry is targeting a deal in the range of the five-year, $76.5 million contract ($46 million guaranteed) Xavien Howard got from Miami last offseason. It's something he should land in free agency, but the Panthers haven't ruled out franchising Bradberry, who said he'd be open to playing under the tag. Bradberry and Byron Jones are likely going to reset the cornerback market this offseason.

This is why I highly dislike free agency at times. Guys like Bradberry and Jones shouldn’t be the ones to “reset” the CB market. It should be guys like Ramsey.

Report: Bengals Planning to franchise tag Green
https://www.thescore.com/nfl/news/1956854

A.J. GREEN
WR, CINCINNATI BENGALS

The Cincinnati Enquirer reports the Bengals plan to franchise free agent A.J. Green if a long-term deal isn’t reached.

Long-term talks with Green have stalled due to CBA negotiations. There's been reports Green wants out of Cincinnati, so signing him to an extension isn't going to be easy. Green has told the Bengals he doesn't want to be franchised, but he doesn't have much leverage to hold out after missing all of 2019. Green will make $18.5 million if he's ultimately tagged.

But we literally don't have any of our top four CBs under contract for 2021, and that was arguably our biggest weakness this season on D as is. Interior OL is also a huge need, but you can find those guys later in the draft. I'd like to see us trade back, address DB (likely CB) unless the value at WR is just ridiculous - which, to be fair, it might. From the sound of things, though, I have to mentally prepare myself for yet another draft in which we fail to adequately address CB.

He’d be a great fit in this offense but I just think they’re simply doing their due diligence. I see them drafting multiple DBs in this upcoming draft if we don’t sign someone in free agency.

As to the first, I agree to an extent. An if Ruggs is there, it would be very hard to pass on him. But generally speaking, they seem to be indicating that they want a WR early, and I think CB is likely the bigger need - and a spot where it's much harder to manufacture success.

Word is we're trying to sign Armstead longterm:

https://www.49erswebzone.com/articles/135193-49ers-working-getting-deal-done-keep-armstead-report/

I don't love it. He played well this year, but he's our third-best DL at best and I don't see how we can afford to re-sign him without losing someone else who we need more. I'd be on board to franchise him for one year (though we may not have the space for that), and am all for franchising him and trying to trade him as we desperately need more picks. But I question the wisdom of extending him longterm. It seems like a luxury we can't afford at this point.

Lynch and Shanahan haven't had to make any hard choices in terms of the team structure to date. This move doesn't give me great confidence in their ability to do so going forward....

EMMANUEL MOSELEY
DB, SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS

49ers re-signed CB Emmanuel Moseley to a one-year, $585,000 contract.

Moseley was an exclusive rights free agent. A 2018 UDFA, Moseley made nine starts for the NFC Champion 49ers last season, spending time both inside and out. He accumulated 746 snaps between the regular season and playoffs. Moseley definitely had the looks of a potential long-term starter, though he made a crucial coverage mistake in the Super Bowl. He turns 24 later this month.

DANIEL BRUNSKILL
T, SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS

49ers re-signed OL Daniel Brunskill to a one-year, $585,000 contract.

Brunskill was an exclusive rights free agent. He will be a restricted free agent in 2021. The 2017 UDFA was a valuable piece of depth in 2019, making starts at left tackle, right tackle and right guard, all the while earning solid marks from Pro Football Focus. Although he's headed into just his fourth year in the league, Brunskill is already 26, limiting his long-term earnings potential.

JEFF WILSON
RB, SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS

49ers re-signed RB Jeff Wilson to a one-year, $660,000 contract.

A 2018 UDFA, Wilson was an exclusive rights free agent. The No. 4 back in the 49ers' over-crowded backfield, 24-year-old Wilson handled the ball 30 times in 2019 after that number was 78 as a rookie. With the 49ers in need of a backfield re-tool, we wouldn't consider Wilson's 53-man roster spot secure.

NICK MULLENS
QB, SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS

49ers re-signed QB Nick Mullens to a one-year, $660,000 contract.

An exclusive rights free agent, this was Mullens' only option if he wanted to continue playing football in 2020. The 2017 UDFA earned No. 2 duties over C.J. Beathard last season, but Jimmy Garoppolo finally stayed healthy and started all 16 games. 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan is aggressive when it comes to finding new, young quarterbacks, and we would not consider it a guarantee Mullens retains backup status for 2020.

ROSS DWELLEY
TE, SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS

49ers re-signed TE Ross Dwelley to a one-year, $660,000 contract.

Dwelley was an exclusive rights free agent, so this was his only option. A 2018 UDFA, Dwelley caught 15 passes in between George Kittle injuries in 2019. With Kittle set to become one of the highest-paid tight ends in the league, Dwelley will remain a lightly-targeted backup.

K'WAUN WILLIAMS
DB, SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS

49ers exercised CB K'Waun Williams' $2.15 million option for 2020.

The team did the same thing with Kyle Juszczyk on Wednesday. Four months shy of his 29th birthday, Williams has proven to be quite the bargain after signing a four-year deal in Sept. 2017. He was one of the league's best slot corners in 2019. An extension could be a summer topic of conversation, but Williams is so affordable that there is no cap number to push down or bonus money to shuttle to future years.

KYLE JUSZCZYK
RB, SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS

49ers exercised FB Kyle Juszczyk's fourth-year option.

Considered by many to be the league's most impactful fullback, it was only a matter of time before the Niners picked up Juszczyk's $5.5 million option. He hauled in 20/239/1 over 12 games with the offense last year, memorably corralling a 15-yard score from Jimmy Garoppolo in Super Bowl LIV. It's still possible the team shrinks his immediate cap hit by working out a long-term deal this offseason.

Dang, not bad signings to keep the roster intact.

But they're deferring more decisions to next year. Will their cap situation be better in 2021?

Or maybe they're hoping for a big increase in the cap with the new CBA.

DEFOREST BUCKNER
DL, SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS

49ers adjusted DL DeForest Buckner's fifth-year option from $14.36 million to $12.37 million.

It's an important distinction as it technically qualifies Buckner as a defensive tackle rather than an end ahead of his contract year. For reference, the franchise tag for EDGE rushers ($19.31 million) is roughly $4 million more than that for interior tackles ($15.5 million) in 2020 — marks that will only increase under the new CBA in 2021. It could allow a significant savings against the cap for the Niners next year if the team is unable to lock down Buckner in a long-term deal.
