It wasn't weed. The suspension for your THIRD positive marijuana test is 5 games. He hasn't been suspended for 5 games. This is worse.

Honestly IDK why the league even tests for weed anymore.
My picks:
2020 Draft (3rd pick) - Tyrese Haliburton, Devin Vassell, or Onyeka Okongwu
2021 Draft (11th pick) - Moses Moody

That isn't the mentality to have when it comes to things like this. Monk is rightfully facing consequences for making a poor decision, but once that is over he should get another chance. If he screws up again, yeah someone else should be given an opportunity. But Monk (and anyone for that matter) deserves an opportunity to redeem himself.

Agreed, got to offer the guy a chance to get right. No condemnation from me on a youthful error. Hope he can beat the issue on a long term basis.

We may never know the specifics around this. They don’t have to disclose it and likely won’t. But man is it disappointing if it’s something serious. My guess was he was partying over all star break and came back to a drug test.

Has anyone heard anything on when we could possibly have Monk back? Like was this a serious drug thing for real and he's in rehab or was this too much weed? While he's suspended, he can't even be around the team or practice with them right? I always wondered why pro leagues thought that would be a good thing for someone who got tested positively for drugs. Like what will help them recover the most, because I don't know that it's being isolated from their team which can be a positive support system. If I'm JB, I'm having the group of friends involve Monk in their outside activities as much as possible.

Yeah, most pro sports 'drug treatment programs' are not very effective at all in breaking the patterns of addiction. Ostracizing a person for drug use is well known to be one of the surest ways to keep them on the junk, anyone who has worked in rehab or knows someone battling addiction can tell you that.

Not sure if 'battling addiction' applies to Monk's situation, but either way it's a counter-productive policy and for a league that prides itself on being progressive it's a solid 30yrs behind in medical expertise on this subject. Unless Monk was caught walking around the locker room offering his teammates lines off a mirror he needs to stay with the team and be shown support in a drug-free environment.

I am beginning to think we might not see Mr. Monk until next season, assuming he can get his act together. But let's be optimistic, and say early April, when eight games are scheduled.

It's safe to say that Monk's season is over, as it may be for all the Hornets. At least he can rehabilitate as necessary, without the pressure of wanting to get back on the court. If he has an addiction, it is important to do it right, not just go through the motions to get cleared to play.

If he had a substance abuse problem associated to alcohol, the league mandated him to attend and complete a program and he has been unsuccessful in completing the program.

Tyreke Evans is the last guy I recall that got suspended indefinitely for drug of abuse. He was suspended 2019 and can't apply for reinstatement until 2021.

Not sure how deep Monk is in this, but he could be done for awhile.
