This is a huge offseason for us. Plenty of directions we can go with this. Free agency doesn’t have much high-end talent, but we weren’t getting that anyways. We should be able to fill out a solid bench and add a solid starting power forward if we don’t believe in the Oubre-Bridges pairing working full-time. The draft is the real wild card, I’m not crazy about anyone in our range and Jones doesn’t seem to interested in continuing to build through the draft with how young we are. I expect us to trade our pick, but I have no idea what that will look like.

Plenty of frustrations this season, but coming out somewhere around 35 wins would be good given the circumstances. This team might have been in the playoffs if Ayton wasn’t a bonehead.

I think pursuit of a guard is a top priority. Even more than a PF. Our offense looks so ugly when Rubio and Booker are off the floor when we have to rely on a two-man combo of Carter/Jerome/Okobo. We really need a near-starter-quality backup PG. That would be my call for a free agent acquisition this summer with our MLE. Keep Baynes/Saric/Frank/Carter and go after a nice PG.

I agree. I’d probably only spend money on one of Frank and Saric if we’re going to start Oubre and Bridges next year though, especially if we keep Baynes. I’d like to keep Carter too, but I wouldn’t be too surprised if he was considered expendable after a new bench guard signing with Jerome being one of their first round picks. Getting someone like Dragic, Clarkson, or FVV to come off the bench would be really nice for us.

Fred Van Vleet is not coming off the bench next season.

He is 8th in the entire NBA in minutes per game (35.8) on a contender. Just imagine him playing a backup role on a non playoff team like us... it is not happening.

But I agree with you and bigfoot about needing badly a good backup PG/SG.

Dragic can be a realistic (but expensive) option.

I would love to absorb Rose's contract ( around $7.5M) and we can give a protected pick to the Pistons.

And Reggie Jackson can be a great option too if he is OK with coming from the bench. Bower signed him before, but I am not sure about the money on his next contract.

I'd love to find a way to nab Patty Mills and Luke Kennard, while retaining Cam J and Baynes.

Rubio, Mills, Jerome
Booker, Kennard
Bridges, Johnson
Oubre, Johnson
Ayton, Baynes, Diallo

Wouldn't be devastated if we gave up Oubre to land a more natural PF with some size (Or just retain Saric), and a defensive back up SF.

Rubio, Mills, Jerome
Booker, Kennard
Bridges, ?
?, Johnson
Ayton, Baynes, Diallo

Lol good point with FVV.

I’m not opposed to spending a bit of money on our bench guard. Return our starting lineup, keep the cheaper/healthier of Saric and Kaminsky, keep Baynes if it’s affordable, and spend the rest of our money on a good guard to come off the bench. Trade our draft pick for a good upgrade if the opportunity is there, otherwise hope we hit on someone in the mid-late lottery.

Just randomly thought I'd look at some metrics that points towards team improvement this season

2013 (Fluke season): 48-34
Off Rtg: 109.5 (8th of 30)
Def Rtg: 106.7 (15th of 30)
Net Rtg: +2.8 (10th of 30)

2014: 39-43
Off Rtg: 105.3 (16th of 30)
Def Rtg: 106.2 (17th of 30)
Net Rtg: -0.9 (19th of 30)

2015: 23-59
Off Rtg: 102.2 (28th of 30)
Def Rtg: 109.0 (25th of 30)
Net Rtg: -6.8 (27th of 30)

2016: 24-58
Off Rtg: 106.6 (22nd of 30)
Def Rtg: 112.2 (28th of 30)
Net Rtg: -5.6 (26th of 30)

2017: 21-61
Off Rtg: 103.5 (30th of 30)
Def Rtg: 112.8 (30th of 30)
Net Rtg: -9.3 (30th of 30)

2018:19-63
Off Rtg: 105.9 (28th of 30)
Def Rtg: 115.1 (29th of 30)
Net Rtg: -9.2 (28th of 30)

2019: 26-38
Off Rtg: 110.6 (16th of 30)
Def Rtg: 111.7 (20th of 30)
Net Rtg: -1.1 (18th of 30)

We're not too far off from that 39-win

^^^^ Anything is an improvement over those last two seasons where we ranked near the bottom of the field in almost all the categories.

I'm curious about that explanation also. Highest shooting percentage when matched up one on one? The volume of film that would have to be reviewed to arrive at that conclusion is a tad staggering.

There's player tracking stats at Nba Stats, now, so it's not that hard. That said, I went there and tried to recreate the ranking, but have absolutely no idea how he arrived at it. Filtering plays by Isolation, Oubre is nowhere near the top anyway you slice it.

Yeah I'd also be curious how he's coming up with that ranking. Eye test I'd say Kelly is alright in this area but 2nd best in the league seems high.

I do think you need a couple good iso guys on your team. I'm all for ball movement and pretty basketball but sometimes a play breaks down or the other teams plays good d and you simply need guys to take the ball and get a bucket on their own. It becomes even more important in the playoffs when facing better Ds and teams that have spent time specifically scheming to stop your O.

I remember that last time one of our rookies got mono. Let's hope Cam Johnson turns out the same way.

Apparently it is this:

"One on One
One on one is graded using NBA driving data along with Synergy play type data. Driving data from tracking cameras is adjusted for efficiency and frequency. Isolation and handoff Synergy play type data is adjusted for efficiency and frequency as well. This category is aiming to calculate what players best used the ball in their hands to apply pressure on the defense and create individual scoring opportunities."
