Most infected people heal within a week. This is a cold. It's nothing but a media craze. This isn't that bad.

Here is an article warning against the perception of the virus as ordinary flu.

https://drive.google.com/file/d/11rJiaY7856DChpqY8_360OQaMeUIsndS/view

Well obviously this isn't an ordinary flu. It's flu like symptoms, clearly much more infectious, but the vast majority of people still don't face severe illness once infected.

Sure, but rising number of people that need hospitalization is overloading health care systems (for example, based on current models Italy will run out of hospital beds in two weeks). That puts at risk people without infection.

But even without that reproductive factor of this virus is very high (three times more infectious than flu) and 20-70% of the global population is likely to be infected (https://thehill.com/policy/healthcare/public-global-health/485602-virus-expert-as-much-as-70-percent-of-worlds). Based on mortality rate that means 30 to 100 million people will die.

That's when hell is going to really break loose, next flu season.

The vaccine is a year away, and unlike now, where people get flu shots if they feel like getting them, it will be crucial to get it because this will be new age common flu that kills even more than the 20,000 a year the regular flu does.

It's why it's hilarious watching workers in hazmat suits walking around spraying streets with mysterious mist, NYC MTA workers wiping down turnstiles with rags, as if a guy with the coronavirus can't smear his snot on one of them as soon as they're done, because there is nothing they can do to stop it from spreading. It's inevitable that this is going to be something we are going to have to fight and live with in the future.

Mandatory vaccinations and booster shots will be what every person will have to get, just as how we do now for MMR.

Well, we don't know how this virus will behave in summer (https://www.cdc.gov/media/releases/2020/t0225-cdc-telebriefing-covid-19.html)

Warm countries like Singapore began to record their cases

Weather will get warm in the North Hemisphere, but there is always a South Hemisphere to continue the winter. :(

How are both your auntie and uncle so much younger than you?

you probably wont die but i heard that it can give permanent damage to your lungs. the main reason for not catching it should be for the ones around you.

They're starting to close schools here on Long Island. Stock market closed down. Italy has locked down. Hopefully, the warmer weather will soon knock this out.

I’m one of those people who were suspicious of this virus being lethal but if the Chinese are locking up whole building apartments and quarantining cities because of this, I kind of thinking the Chinese are not telling the whole story about this disease.

China isn't the only country with tangible data. Coronavirus is definitely infectious but it isn't super lethal. There seem to be people that contract the virus without showing symptoms. It's probably a good idea to shut down gatherings to prevent infections as much as possible, but it's not an existential threat.

I wonder if this has had any effect on the sale of Corona beer? Anyone know?

I think there have been studies done that there are large % of people that wont drink the beer even though it doesn't have an correlation to the virus. The companies that own Corona have taken a hit but so has the larger market and there isn't any extra damage being done to Corona product outside of the normal effect its had on the broader scope of the market.

I had read that. I wouldn't drink it because it's the worst of the Mexican lagers. I'll take Tecate, Modelo, and particularly Pacifico any day of the week over Corona. A cold Pacifico on a hot summer night is heavenly.

More lethal than anything common in our recent experience by a large factor. Probably at least 10x more lethal than the flu and very infectious.

Sep - The point of quarantines and the like is to stop spread until a vaccine can be created. Keep it at bay so we're dealing with thousands and not millions of cases, which is quite possible without intervention. Wuhan is recently reporting no new cases, which is a remarkable turnaround. Where it is active, already, the number of cases that become severe is putting a major strain on available hospital beds. So it's not "we're all going to die" but it's "we're all going to sacrifice and be more mindful to prevent a larger scale epidemic." Prevention of spread can go a long way with this one.
