I really don't see how "PC culture" has anything to do with being precautionary. If I hear about snowflakes and the coronavirus I will roll my eyes so far in the back my head. It's just reckless to spread something to players and fans if they know one of their own has it and there's a two week period where you have no idea if you have it or not... regardless if isn't going to kill 90% of the people that has it, it's still something that should be taken seriously.

Mass hysteria, imo, is people acting like there's going to be a food shortage and stocking up for years in some underground bunker, but I think this probably had to be done.

It can potentially kill tens of millions of people. Look how it's spreading. On the low side it's 10× deadlier than the flu.

PC culture in the sense of a bunch of Karens that need to speak to the manager would demand that the NBA shut it down. I’m not going into snowflakes and whatnot.

Again, I think this is ridiculous because cases of TB or Measles or something are far more contagious but because this is new, everyone is losing their minds. COVID 19 is more lethal than the common flu, but not by much

Plus we can narrow down who is most at risk. It isn’t like this is going to wipe out a bunch of otherwise very healthy people. Remember swine flu? Same thing.

Ok where did you see this data? I will look and I will admit if I am clearly wrong.

I’m saying that the speculation here is counter to what most doctors are telling the public and causing tons of issues over something that is likely not as serious as it is being portrayed.

Yep, hate it when those over-reactive epidemiologists and wild-eyed infectious disease physicians start issuing urgent warnings just because a few thousand people start dying and the WHO declares a global pandemic. What nervous nellies. If you contract coronavirus, just walk it off, and you'll be fine.

Gotcha. I mean, I think most people were on board with the no fans thing until Gobert had it. If it's a quickly identifiable flu, that's one thing, but the fact that you may not shows symptoms for weeks is what, IMO, makes it a unique situation from the NBA/any league.

I don't know about fatality reports from this or the swine flu, I knew a **** of people got the swine flu but it was a pretty low death rate, not sure how much worse this one is, so I won't speak on that.

I do think trying to cut the head off right away is the best way to combat it though. Being able to quarantine people until they're better and thus stopping the spread of it if everybody heeds advice and doesn't do dumb things. But the U.S. is just so big that we may have never had a chance in the first place, so it's a tricky situation.

The flu kills .1 and this kills 3.4% which is actually 34 times higher but they hope to get it down to 1%. It also spreads to twice as many people as the flu. It's R-naught is 2.28 compared to 1.16 from the flu. Meaning everyone that gets the coronavirus speads it to 2.28 people.

Germany expects 70 million to get it in Germany. What's 1 to 3.4% of 70 million?

This overused comment need to stop. You can not compare COVID 19 to TB, Measles or any other well studied disease or virus ... yet. Until we have a betting handle on what this is, the long term effects of it and how to begin dealing with it then it must to elevated to a higher risk.

Urgent warnings to whom and with respect to what? All a pandemic means is that a disease is prevalent within a country or the world. It does not make anything more deadly.

The “thousands” people keep talking about dying are in comparison to the 7.7 billion people on the planet.

Normal influenza kills 200,000 to 650,000 people every year—even young people sometimes. Where is the panic?

Please. I’m not speaking on ignorance. I’ve consulted with doctors on this who all have told me the same. Turn off the news and consider your sources.

Lol overused? You mean because it’s a relevant fact that doesn’t support your position?

Elevate to a higher risk by crashing global economies and over consuming medical products so that those that actually need them cannot get them? Because it’s slightly more deadly than a common flu? Because most cases of deaths have common patient characteristics?

The medical, economic and risk management communities (of which I am a leading expert) around the world clearly disagree with your “Facts” but do carry on living in that denial bubble; it sure does sound fun in there!

I'm all about being cautious and stopping the spreading as much as possible, but some people are taking it too far and it feels like some are using scare tactics for some reason. Be smart, be cautious, but no need to make people panic.

Here's one source, and it ain't CNN. https://www.dynamed.com/condition/covid-19-novel-coronavirus

The editor of this article is a Harvard professor and Infectious Disease specialist. It's written by physicians for physicians treating patients at the point of care.

And the reason why thousands of deaths is concerning compared to say the flu or measles or car accidents or whatever else that might have a high mortality rate is that this hasn't been contained, and there isn't a vaccine for it yet, so you either fight it off with your natural immune system and antimicrobial medications (something many people can manage) or you can't and there isn't much they can do for you.

It's not a matter of panic, but just a matter of taking the threat seriously and trying to mitigate the damage.

Angela Merkel say they expect 70 million people in Germany to get it. The World health organization has said the death rate is 3.4% which would be 2,380,000 deaths in just Germany

It should be noted that these are preventative reactions to the impending spread of it. It's going to do what it does, we can't stop it, and we likely won't delay it long enough until a vaccine is developed.

But, it's what's happening, so we can only hope it does curb spread somewhat.

Man I hope you are right. Not only is this going put a strain on the medical system that will be unable to serve people who need treatment for illnesses related and unrelated to the virus, but the economic impact has the potential to be crushing.
