I’m not a medical doctor but I have seen this garbage about Zinc and the Corona virus flood the internet recently and I have seen plenty of what appear to be qualified sources shoot it down just as fast. That lack of medical doctors advising it should also be justification.

There is no harm is using Zinc lozenges for their general use but telling people they will can, will or might prevent contraction of the COVID 19 is wrong and harmful.
They are using a combination of zinc and a malaria drug to fight it in South Korea.

I don't think it prevents you from getting it. It does help build you immunity and has been linked to fighting other respiratory viruses.

I haven't saw anyone say use it to prevent it or anything. I just made my own analytical judgement on what supplements that might help fight this. I've never tried the lozenges.

to be fair, you said there was a youtube video of people talking about Zinc being used to prevent it.

basketballRob wrote:There is a YouTube video about how zinc can help prevent getting it but i can't figure out how to post it with my phone.
I was trying to find some facts about zinc and coronavirus when i was posting and i saw that video.

I originally just had a bottle of zinc in the cabinet because it's good to speed up would healing and other things. It says on it for immunity. I did research and the first thing that popped up was zinc and respiratory viruses. So i searched for zinc and coronavirus, then i found out that South Korea was using it in combination with a malaria drug for coronavirus.

Not sure anyone is saying it's a super cure. That video was a doctor experimenting with it to kill the virus and had little views.

I know what you mean.

Back in 2009 during swine flu pandemic I took a business trip to Middle East with 3 colleagues, who all came with masks to airport. We travelled for different meetings to Doha, than Muscat and Dubai at the end. All in all, spent around 10 days travelling with my constant mocking of precautions they took. Generally speaking I was not at all unlike some people now.

Anyway, while coming back on a flight from Dubai (layover in Istanbul), guy across the aisle from me pass out, stewards looking for doctors among passengers and bringing oxygen to help him. Jokes on me now, you can't imagine panic it caused and how it made me beg for a mask and Purell spray from colleagues.

I feel bad because I was greedy last week and bought 6 bottles of purell. Publix had a thing where you could get 2 bottles at a time. I have 3 publix within 15 minutes of each other and i hit them all at 7 in the morning when they opened.

Did your wife go on her trip?

No, she remained home. This is a story from 2009, but yesterday too I tried to get Purell for my kids since schools are still open here (I'm in Serbia) and it is impossible to find it, or any other brand of disinfectant, even medical alcohol is sold out at pharmacy stores.

Yeah we have no hand sanitizer here. The other thing that's hard to find is toilet paper for some reason.

If you guys are hard up to find hand sanitizer, you can make your own in a pinch with some glycerin and rubbing alcohol. You can find all kinds of guides around the internet/youtube I am sure.

I heard there is a myth that you can make breathing masks off toilet paper. That could be why.

Yeah, plenty of that available here, especially in the form of fruit brandy (plum variety. ;) Kids don't like to use it to sanitize hands though, it has a tough smell.

From a disinfection perspective: usually you would need 60%+ ethanol. Vodka "can" work (37-40%) but it is nowhere near ideal from a sanitary concept.

By "alcohol", I assume this is meant as Isopropanol or "mixed spirts". A home brand "rubbing alcohol" is not an ideal concentration of Isopropanol (usually only 10-20-%) for disinfection.

Be safe.

Fortified wines (Schnapps / Brandy / Sherry and the like are called in the UK), will NOT provide disinfection. These are at a 20-30% alcohol level only.

We probably won't even see the draft this summer, at least not in a way we are used to seeing it.

January 22: “We have it totally under control. It’s one person coming in from China. It’s going to be just fine.”
February 2: “We pretty much shut it down coming in from China.”
February 24: “The Coronavirus is very much under control in the USA… Stock Market starting to look very good to me!”
February 25: “CDC and my Administration are doing a GREAT job of handling Coronavirus.”
February 25: “I think that's a problem that’s going to go away… They have studied it. They know very much. In fact, we’re very close to a vaccine.”
February 26: “The 15 (cases in the US) within a couple of days is going to be down to close to zero.”
February 26: “We're going very substantially down, not up.”
February 27: “One day it’s like a miracle, it will disappear.”
February 28: “We're ordering a lot of supplies. We're ordering a lot of, uh, elements that frankly we wouldn't be ordering unless it was something like this. But we're ordering a lot of different elements of medical.”
February 28: “Now the Democrats are politicizing the coronavirus, you know that, right? Coronavirus, they’re politicizing it. We did one of the great jobs. You say, ‘How’s President Trump doing?’ They go, ‘Oh, not good, not good.’ They have no clue. They don’t have any clue. They can’t even count their votes in Iowa.” “They tried the impeachment hoax. That was on a perfect conversation. They tried anything. They tried it over and over. They’d been doing it since you got in. It’s all turning. They lost. It’s all turning. Think of it. Think of it. And this is their new hoax.”
March 2: “You take a solid flu vaccine, you don't think that could have an impact, or much of an impact, on corona?”
March 2: “A lot of things are happening, a lot of very exciting things are happening and they’re happening very rapidly.”
March 4: “If we have thousands or hundreds of thousands of people that get better just by, you know, sitting around and even going to work — some of them go to work, but they get better.”
March 5: “I NEVER said people that are feeling sick should go to work.”
March 5: “The United States… has, as of now, only 129 cases… and 11 deaths. We are working very hard to keep these numbers as low as possible!”
March 6: “I think we’re doing a really good job in this country at keeping it down… a tremendous job at keeping it down.”
March 6: “Anybody right now, and yesterday, anybody that needs a test gets a test. They’re there. And the tests are beautiful…. the tests are all perfect like the letter was perfect. The transcription was perfect. Right? This was not as perfect as that but pretty good.”
March 6: “I like this stuff. I really get it. People are surprised that I understand it… Every one of these doctors said, ‘How do you know so much about this?’ Maybe I have a natural ability. Maybe I should have done that instead of running for president.”
March 6: “I don't need to have the numbers double because of one ship that wasn't our fault.”
March 8: “We have a perfectly coordinated and fine tuned plan at the White House for our attack on CoronaVirus.”
March 9: “This blindsided the world.”
March 9: "The Fake News Media and their partner, the Democrat Party, is doing everything within its semi-considerable power (it used to be greater!) to inflame the CoronaVirus situation, far beyond what the facts would warrant.”
March 10: "It will go away. Just stay calm. It will go away."

Yes, going forward, but too late for this crisis. Its part of what caused us to respond so flat footed. The same goes with releasing the regulations by the FDA for hospital groups and other labs to formulate their own tests and responses to this, which just came this past Friday. We should have taken the test from WHO, which was created by a company in Germany. They say it was a very reputable one, and the gold standard for this type of thing. The rest of the world is using it anyway. I equate this to everyone having to take off their shoes now at the airport which came as the result of the shoe bomber.
