Christian Wood tests positive for Covid

He might have gotten it from Gobert, Gobert may have gotten it from him, or their might be a multiple others who might test positive linked to them.

He has no symptoms probably would have never known he had it if it weren't for Gobert's testing positive.

honestly it's only been what four days but already given the hindsight it's probably a good thing gobert so publicly tested positive. it suspended the nba (first sports org i believe, kudos to silver), led to all other sports orgs suspending play and overall raised awareness that this thing was coming.

still a bone-headed move, but potentially saved a lot of people from spreading the virus.

The medical staff that detected Gobert’s case deserve serious praise. This could have gotten very bad very quick.

I live very near one of the outbreak sites in Washington so there were already some tech companies (including my own) that had recommended its staff stay home but there really was nothing nationally done before this.

The NBA shut its doors and the rest of the world really took notice that Covid was actually a thing to possibly be concerned about.
I don't think I'm adding much in this post but wanted to echo whitehops and DCintheD's praise of that medical staff.

Agreed. Adam Silver is a fantastic commissioner.

Healthcare providers are the quiet heroes. Interesting and frightening times. A virus not particularly high as to virulence, but highly infectious with alarming long term mortality and difficult recovery rates? Here's hoping Christian fares well.

Yeah, we're all kind of collectively facing the music at the moment. Not only will it get worse before it gets better, but we're quite a long way away from anything resembling normalcy. Not clear how long, but yeah.

This is going to change our lives for a very long time. Still not sure what that's going to look like in the long term. Heck, right now I'm not even quite sure what this is going to look like 5 days from now.

Unless they come up with a cure quick. People will have forgotten all about it within 6 months if that happens.

There really isn’t such a thing as “coming up with a cure quick”.

That’s not how it works.

First of all, viruses don’t have cures, only ways of managing symptoms, or slowing growth via antiviral medications, which also take time to develop.

Unless you’re talking about a vaccine, which is something entirely different from a “cure”. Those take time too.

It’s pleasant to think that in the next few months something will come along that will allow us to wipe this thing out, but that’s not reality.

True. Although they're doing human testing on a vaccine in Washington state as we speak, it would still be months before availability even if everything goes well.

I like the tests done in Australia using a partial combination of the Malaria vaccine and the HIV supression drug. Apparently, some people tested with it, the virus disappeared.

Try more than a year.

Even thinking its going to be a handful of months is not in touch with reality.

Any sort of news like that is good news right now. Could possibly be developed quicker due to those two treatments already exisiting and being known quantities?

Even fast tracking with known existing quantities will take way out in months and a year due to trials and making sure it is absolutely safe for the safety and trust of the public. Imagine pandemonium if the so called rushed vaccine actually makes you sick or kills you. You really only have one shot to get it right with these types of things
