The universities shutting down campus hurts some international kids alot

So all our classes are either cancelled or online and all my roomates are going back home, and tbh 95% of the people i know are going back home. I dont have family here that can go here and Internships are screwed, summer classes too.

I think some of the other kids literallt wont even have a place to stay tho

Im glad i graduated years ago. I feel bad for the college/uni students right now. Even with supplementing online classes most are still gonna be stuck in dorms.........unless they move back home

At least at usc and from most people i know in other places everyones going home. A bunch of campus are shutting down i think and students are encouraged not to go to campus or back to in student housing, and have to send an email to extend their stay

For seniors it hella sucks cuz they cant graduate, most of us hate it too just cuz the senester is basically over since club events, school events, concerts, etc and stuff have been cancelled. Obv its understandable but it still sucks

Yang was running on UBI from the beginning and it wasn't until after some prodding that he even began to consider having it stack with other welfare benefits. His UBI from the original conception had more in common with Milton Friedman's idea than a left wing version. I'm not opposed to a UBI, it's just very important that it actually helps poor people instead of hurt them.

As to universal coverage of healthcare versus M4A, I think M4A was better than the alternatives that were proposed and I also think a lot of the moderates that ran on universal coverage did so as a response to Sanders position and the more growing popularity of M4A.

Hillary proposed universal healthcare in the 90s and Biden was fighting for a public option a decade ago while trying to pass the ACA. The idea Sanders is the reason why current moderates want universal healthcare just doesn't vibe with reality.

I think Sanders is why a lot of the less moderate people said they'd support M4A if they could get it (think Kamala or Booker) but he's definitely not the first Democrat to want universal coverage.

These healthcare plans are not the same though. Just recently Biden was unsure whether he would sign a M4A bill as president even if it went through all the necessary steps to sign into law.

M4A is far from the only form universal healthcare can take. M4A would be by far the most extensive government run healthcare system in the world if it passed in it's current form. Not supporting M4A doesn't mean you don't support universal coverage.

I'm not sure how much Biden would even be talking about healthcare if it wasn't for Bernie's platform,

Barack ran on healthcare. Trump ran on repeal and replace. Healthcare will always be a top 3 issue in the US, Bernie's made no influence there.

not saying it wouldn't be brought up at all but it's undeniable the influence it has had. Pete Buttigieg's healthcare was a triangulation on Bernie's plan, same with Warren's frankly, Harris same thing along with Gabbard.

Well yeah I agreed with this. Sanders got M4A out there. Healthcare was the #1 issue before Sanders ever rode to prominence though and Democrats have been pushing for universal coverage for decades and a party. His influence is mostly shown in student loan forgiveness that's definitely something no one was seriously discussing until he started pushing for it.

The number of Instagram stories I'm seeing of people at bars and restaurants is appalling. People in this country are not taking this seriously at all and there will be a heavy price to pay.

On a lighter note, let's see if dumbbells till 50 and a TRX setup are enough to keep these gains...

With all the binge watching discussion going on, randomly came across the office vs Brooklyn 99. The person said obviously the office as if it wasn't debatable. I definitely enjoyed the office during its original run, but the later seasons weren't nearly as good so I'm inclined to say Brooklyn 99. Thoughts?

Both are great. I enjoyed Brooklyn 99 more, and watch that series again more often than the Office.

The last two seasons of the office is a major decline - but Michael Scott leaves at the end of season 7 and Brooklyn 99 is 7 seasons long. Their longevity is comparable.

So who peaked higher, Michael or Holt?

[I just remember forcing myself to watch the last few seasons of the office because I felt "committed" to finish. The first 4 seasons or so we're definitely great, though.]

I think around season 5 they kinda told all the stories they needed to tell. Season 5 had the "Michael Scott Paper Company" arc which was probably the most interesting plot they told.

I think a lot of it basically came down to Jim+Pam was solved and that was the core basis of the show lol. Everything else kinda just became like the Simpsons, just zany characters getting into hijinks.

I actually have not seen Brooklyn 99. But I have seen The Office, Parks and Recs and The Good Place which are all made by the same guy (well the Office was made by a few people)

Ah, if you have access to Hulu you should definitely give it a shot. Great ensemble cast and an easy binge. Parks and rec another one of my favorites. For anyone reading who hasn't started parks and rec yet: get past the first 6 eps and the real show starts. They totally changed the tone of the show for the better. The good place is still on my list, but I've heard great things from most people.

I have no doubt i'll like it but I try not to binge series, kills production especially since I work at home so it's super dangerous lol. Last year I did watch a lot of series because I felt out of touch with society in regards to shows to talk about, but picked some off beat shows to take a risk on instead of a sure thing like BKN 99.

I am quarantined so I guess I can watch series without feeling too guilty. ;)

Lol tomorrow will only be my 4th day working from home and still figuring out how to set a schedule. The group of guys I play pickup bball with all decided to stop playing last week, so that's messing with me too :-? Obviously bigger issues at hand so have to make the most of it, but don't want to fall into a trap of less than healthy living.

I don't think it's debatable. The Office was a cultural phenomenon. Plus their jokes are way less repetitive. Love Brooklyn 99 but it's very much the same 20 jokes on a loop.

I like The Good Place the most of those shows. P&R and B99 are too much syrup for me personally.

Is the NFL really going to make teams play different number of home games?

I think this is the appropriate time for me to start watching Chernobyl. Heard great things from it for a while now wonder if it figures into the pantheon alltime shows. We'll see

At this point I'm just waiting to see if the Feds and banks start a no default period. Honestly it's weird how they'd rather let the whole global financial system crash to keep their bonuses.
