Fortified wines (Schnapps / Brandy / Sherry and the like are called in the UK), will NOT provide disinfection. These are at a 20-30% alcohol level only.

This was really good pepe. I suggest people take the time to watch it. It was particularly interesting hearing about the lack of planning for a crisis like this. How all of our I.V.'s were being made in Puerto Rico, or very necessary medications mostly, or exclusively being made in China. No foresight or planning at all, when this needs to be handled like the military does their planning. There should be contingencies for every scenario, but instead we are so reactionary, and super slow at that. I've always had the mantra of people don't plan to fail, they fail to plan. Just look at the images of people trying to get home from Europe right now, jammed together for hours. The opposite of what you want to do at this time. Also, the season is scrapped guys. We probably won't even see the draft this summer, at least not in a way we are used to seeing it.

this is not meant as a political statement. but Spine, what do you think about the Administration basically cutting the response team 2 years ago. is this something that can be recovered quickly?

It was more in the joking manner. Commercially sold Slivovitz (Šljivovica) has probably less than 40% of ethanol, but as pepe noted in jest, privately made is usually double-distilled and ethanol content is usually 50% or above, with some going even over 70%.

I personally don't usually drink rakia, but when I do, it is made of pears. :)

Another angle to this that has been mentioned is the economic one. The Fed just shot their last bullet they had at this problem and lowered interest rates to .25%. Money is practically free to borrow. It was an attempt to spur the stock market, but futures are already down the max at 5%. We are steering for a recession, probably a global one. If you are in the stock market and don't retire within 10 years, weather the storm and wait for the comeback. Make sure you are tied to solid companies, some will go under from this. If you do need your money in that time frame, move it to fixed income, like CD's or bond funds. You won't make much money, but more importantly you won't lose much. That's what I did recently, the timing is off for me to suffer a big hit. If you don't have money in the market, this will hurt our service oriented economy with wage workers. Watch your spending and rat hole some cash, because the banks will ration it out as they did in '08, if the worst happens again. The silver lining for this will be cheaper gas at the pump and better mortgage rates, so refinance now. Hope this helps someone, but some of the other things I've been thinking about at this time. :D

This could be the recession we've been hinting at for about a year because the markets have been artificially propped up for years and the corporate tax cuts which lead to even more share buy backs super inflated stocks, but this has the potential to be much much worse than a recession. This is part of the reason that the health of an economy should not be assessed by the stocks or GDP because it hides so much of what's really going on, it's a mask.

A bunch of countries in Europe and Japan have below zero interest rates. Some pay almost an extra percentage point to get you to borrow and stimulate the economy.

I pay 4.75 on my house but i don't want to mess with it. It's almost paid and i don't plan on moving, my payment is only 575 a month.

My interest is lower than that on my house, and a little more on my practice. I'm calling on Monday for the both of them. If I can get a lower rate and keep my payment the same, I will be able to pay it off faster. Just a thought.

If we can stop traveling into Florida that might potentially have the Coronavirus, We should be recovering from these total number of cases than any other US state because Florida is one of the best states, perhaps the best with the hottest temperatures and highest UV index. Sunlight and UV rays kill germs, bacteria and viruses so the more Florida keeps getting temperatures in the 80's or more and the higher the UV index is the better. The only other states that are as HOT as us are Texas, Arizona, New Mexico and California.

Most states don't get a warm or hot day until May or June so they could take longer to get their cases down.

I screwed my credit up so I'm kind of stuck with what i have. It's a fixed rate and my payment is pretty low. I only owe like 70, not sure what is worth. My neighbor just sold his for 475 but his is way better than mine.

Australia and Singapore may dispute that. If this thing acts like Influenza, you may be right. The bottom line is, we don't know yet. There are conflicting reports out there at the moment.

Jeez on the FL warmth statement... Its worrisome how lightly people are still taking it.

Aus and the SE Asian countries that are tropical are getting decimated even thought they are supposedly warm/hot weather....

Didn't Aus get it before the US did and they are only at ~300 cases? Because they had cases back in Jan.

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Sunday recommended that no gatherings with 50 people or more take place for the next eight weeks to slow the spread of the novel coronavirus.

The agency said these gatherings include conferences, festivals, parades, concerts, sporting events, weddings and other types of assemblies.
"Large events and mass gatherings can contribute to the spread of COVID-19 in the United States via travelers who attend these events and introduce the virus to new communities," the CDC said in its new guidelines.
