Despite a positive COVID-19 test from a passenger who had disembarked days earlier, thousands of people were allowed to leave a cruise ship in Miami Sunday without undergoing medical screening.

The former passenger got off the MSC Meraviglia in Miami on March 8 after an eight-day Caribbean cruise, leaving 103 passengers and the ship’s crew aboard for the next voyage. Four days later, after the ship had sailed with thousands of additional new passengers aboard, the Public Health Agency of Canada informed Broward-based MSC Cruises that the former passenger had tested positive.

Once it received the result, the company said it isolated seven crew members who had been in close contact with the passenger in individual cabins. But instead of holding the ship off the Florida coast and testing people on board for the novel coronavirus, which causes the disease COVID-19, MSC said U.S. health authorities cleared it to dock Sunday and disembark passengers as normal.

In the case of the Miami ship, MSC Meraviglia, no one on board was tested for COVID-19 and 3,877 passengers disembarked freely at PortMiami Sunday. Many went directly to Miami International Airport for flights home across the country.

Thanks. It would be nice to know what I had, but whatever it was, wasn't even as bad as a cold. And from what I've read, that can be the case for a lot of people.

if the US ever actually has thorough testing, the numbers of infected is going to be downright frightening.

This is really terrible. The government is screwing this up as much as they can. These flights are from Europe and they are definitely positive folks in that group who would have now spread it to the mass around them. And, unless all these people are super disciplined, they will keep spreading. Again, it comes down to tests. Can't they take a swab of everyone who is deplaning or even in the plane itself. These folks should have been quarantined in the airport hotels for a day until you get the results. This is just bad planning.

BREAKING: The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on Sunday called for the cancelation of in-person events of 50 or more people for the next eight weeks to try and prevent the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19). The agency issued new guidance as governors across the country directed bars and restaurants to close down with the exception of carry-out or delivery business. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on Sunday called for the cancelation of in-person events of 50 or more people for the next eight weeks to try and prevent the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19).

Got the same *exact* symptoms for the most part. A little stuffy too. Started Wednesday/Thursday for me and I haven’t turned the corner. Virtually everyone I know had some similar illness in the last 7 days. Some people cough, others don’t. The high school kids just complained of general fatigue. No one has been tested that I know of.

If it wasn’t for what was going on in the world, I would take a few Advil and go to work normally. So far, it’s scarier than it is severe.

It’s particularly obscene when you consider that the guy running government right now was constantly attacking Obama and his administration for bringing a couple doctors that had contracted Ebola back to the US, on quarantined flights, that led directly to a sealed ambulance, and straight to a quarantined wing of a hospital.

Not to compare the two viruses as Ebola is downright nightmarish, but you’d think that a President that made a big deal of attacking his predecessor would be extra motivated to handle this successfully.

Well maybe it is fine if everyone is healthy. If not and your parents get corona they're in a high risk category. If they don't have any other illnesses they would still probably have a 98% chance of recovery, but the consequences if things go poorly sure seem to outweigh the benefits.

I would say it partially depends how many people come to a family party too. If it's like 10 of you, it probably is a lot less big deal than if it's 40.

My friend who's a doctor said they are running low on PPEs. And, they are expecting an onslaught this week.
This can get ugly if the government doesn't step up more.

With the latest news on bar/restaurants, the damage to the economy they are about to do is going to be far more damaging than the actual virus.

i do think that it's definitely more of a concern if they are going to church and going up to receive communion...which i'm guessing that they're continuing to do seeing as the reason given for not going out for pizza was the behavior of the toddler

we're talking about a guy who attacked his predecessor for playing too much golf, yet while president has spent an average of 2 full hours a day every day at trump golf properties in FL, VA, NJ (not including travel time!)...charging secret service and pocketing the money

Jesus,

These types of events are silent catastrophes.

Having someone test positive for the disease in an environment that is perfectly suited for spreading it. not testing anyone or taking steps to stop the outbreak, and then have all of those people disperse at an international airport to other locations randomly dispersed around the country and the world........it's like we just added 25000 people to the disease total in 30 days.

Your parents are basically the same age as mine. I feel your pain and empathize with your concern. Given that there are dozens of factors that I cannot be aware of, I would exercise caution. You hate to cancel a family gathering considering there is no guarantee that you'll have the same opportunity next year, but it has to be an option I suppose. Perhaps encourage family who are not feeling 100% or who are higher risk to stay away?

Getting food delivered (or picked up) is a safer option to dining out, so good for that.

Hope it all goes well no matter how it plays out. Stay safe.

Same to all my Bulls board brethren.

Please elaborate. What does “over” mean?

I believe the economic impact will be even more significant than the actual health perspective. I have a trusted psychologist that is deeply concerned that there will be more suicides due to panic, exhaustion, and financial pressure and loss then the actual virus.

This is why it will spread exponentially. There is no accountability. The greed among these companies is crazy. Everyone of them should put crippling fines for this nonsense. People will die unecessarily due to their recklessness.
