Finally. Finland is pretty much closed. Don`t know why we have to wait this long. It was happening anyway. Now it just be worse than if we acted like 2-3 days ago.

I never realized there were so many Finns participating on this board. Basketball gets more and more global all the time.

Can the cap plummet so far that like 80% of the teams will be way over with existing obligations?

There are mechanisms in the cap that will reduce all salaries on a pro-rata basis if the cap falls such that the players exceed their allotment of BRI.

I also had to scare my dad and I actually just went through his age and his conditions and he agreed with all of them and I showed him the article from Italy where the doctor is going through the calculation and I basically just showed him with what he had they wouldn't even give him treatment so he doesn't want to end up there and that's where he started saying he didn't get pneumonia when he was a kid. Then I went through how that stuff is a lot easier to avoid or survive as a kid and he's on the other end of that now so I wouldn't count on the same thing happening. I think it did have an impact but he almost has to come to it himself I can't push too hard so I just went through things and let it go. I think the coverage and hopefully seeing how different things out there are will start wearing on him but it sounds like more stuff is cancelled and he is starting to watch the news so I think he's getting it but it's really tough. Then I have to try and convince the little sister but I think she's starting to get it too. Sometimes it is time to let things sink in but with how many NBA players etc that have it I think this thing is already out there at a pretty bad level so we don't have a lot of time to figure things out, people just kind of need to listen to the experts.

We almost need to make our own thread for stories how we scare our stubborn parents into believing they aren't supermen/women anymore lol.

You can try this on your dad. Tell him that even if he survives Corona his lungs might be permanently damaged after it and he might get permanent asthma for the rest of his life and basic flu will be much scarier for him after damaging his lungs for the rest of his life. I did tell that to my mother and I don't even know if what I told her are factual but at least there is more chance that she will wake up. Her 69 year old sister is completely locked up inside her own house and I tried to tell her to call her etc lol. Well that's just small part of what I've tried so far, but yes. These are some extreme cases of stubborn people and they just have to make the decision themselves in the end. It's so hard to make them listen.

my parents, who I complained about a few pages ago for their lack of concern, are still not taking things serious, they trying to schedule a family dinner for later this week, there's just no need for unnecessary exposure, but they think "oh its just family" and don't understand/accept that its "family + every person that family has come in contact with in the last week or two"

i'm ready to slap them both.

^ Scaring them into staying indoors is actually not a bad idea. It's the best way to combat this situation, to limit contact with possible carriers of the virus, specially since their age demographic are the most at risk. If that still doesn't work, maybe convince everybody else to say no to the gathering to cancel it? Haha

Try to practice social distancing as early as now, even if your government hasn't imposed it on y'all yet.

Slap them both by not going. Here in Finland people over 70 were ordered today to stay off from social contacts among other drastic measures.

Finland have almost everytime most fans in FIBA tournaments and they have a lot of fun. Basketball has booming here lately. Before Lauri. Lauri in NBA is just nice bonus. I bet talented people choose basketball more and more here.

That's awesome. It's been really cool seeing this grow internationally. I remember when I was a kid, I lived in the UK and they had a pro-league, but games were almost completely unattended. It was like going to a sparsely attended school game. They'd play games in gyms where there were other events visibly happening in the background

Hallelujah, got mother on the phone to listen for 3 minutes and she finally acquiesced.

in case it helps anyone else with stubborn family my logic was to clarify that by having 8 people over, you are also inviting every person those 8 have been in contact with over the last weeks(s) and any non essential gathering only helps to spread something potentially deadly among every family member at once.

anyway, this sure is an interesting time, and only on the ground floor, nobody is talking april or may, they are talking july & august. that's messed up!

what frustrates me is that with a 30 day head start on this that the mighty powers of the govt couldnt wave the wand and produce a million, or millions of testing kits,. this seems like a failure on many levels. with all the money we spend annually we cant pull rank somewhere and get r' done?

Dumb question, but what's the point of getting tested? Right now, there's no vaccine. Is it simply to know if you have it or not? Aren't you better off just pre-emptively self-quarantining if you're feeling ill? It seems like going to get tested has two main issues:

1.) If you don't have it, you've risked exposing yourself to it by going to a testing center where other people may have it.

2.) If you do have it, you're risking infecting people who don't have it at testing centers.

Romney's not looking too shabby at the moment either:

Republican Sen. Mitt Romney of Utah on Monday outlined a list of proposals to address the coronavirus outbreak, including giving all American adults $1,000 in response to fallout from the spread of the disease.

Romney's office framed the proposals as a way to ensure economic stability for working Americans.
"Every American adult should immediately receive $1,000 to help ensure families and workers can meet their short-term obligations and increase spending in the economy," a release from Romney's office states, adding, "Congress took similar action during the 2001 and 2008 recessions. While expansions of paid leave, unemployment insurance, and SNAP benefits are crucial, the check will help fill the gaps for Americans that may not quickly navigate different government options."

In addition to that, Romney's proposals call for providing grants to affected small businesses, measures aimed at easing financial burdens for students during this time and actions to bolster telehealth services amid the outbreak.

There are signs that a direct cash-to-citizens proposal is gaining traction. Greg Mankiw, a former top economic adviser to President George W. Bush who advised Romney in both of his presidential campaigns, has embraced the idea.
"I would start with a $1,000 check for every American, sent out as quickly as possible," Mankiw told CNN's John Harwood. "That would work out to be about 1.7% of GDP. But if this pandemic continues, we might have to do it again in a month."

Former President Barack Obama adviser Jason Furman, who's advocating for the proposal, estimated it would cost $350 billion.
Trump economic adviser Larry Kudlow would not rule the proposal out when asked by CNN Monday.
