https://threadreaderapp.com/thread/1239134892975427586.htmlThe implication is clear. We missed the window of opportunity so this is about to go exponential for a few weeks at least. I would not be surprised if the U.S. ends up with infections well north of the million mark due to our slow response and continued large gatherings and clusterfukked airport scenes. Trump lied about everything at the beginning. They had the data and time to prepare, but they didn't. We're going to pay the price now.
I thought it was all a liberal hoax....

Yeah, that's the problem. For all those weeks Trump called it a "hoax" we lost valuable time we could have been more proactive. Now, we're playing catch-up -- and even now, he's still insisting we've got a handle on things, everything is gonna be ok, etc. when that's simply not true.
My wife works for the Federal government. In a job that could be done in from anywhere with internet and phone access.
Still, she and her entire office were made to go to work today.
They did the planning etc around "working from home" on Friday - and already have the means etc.
It seems no agency wants to be "first"
Trump has created a culture among leaders of federal agencies - the ones who make the call on this stuff - that they are fearful to wrong dear leader.
So, where I live in Northern Va, and this holds for southern Maryland, a LOT of people work in federal office buildings, directly or as in place contractors.
The same places that shut schools down for effectively the next month.
Yet, so far, the federal government decided to impact this area by rolling the dice by having people come into work - on trains, buses, or the every popular carpool (well, "only 3" in car necessary for HOV lanes). Nice to know the local measures are being undermined - to some degree.
