What's wrong with this picture?

Read on Twitter

That picture is from days before the recommendation of limiting the number of people at gatherings. In other words the photo is fake news

The picture was literally from today while they were announcing it.

Reuters has deleted the original tweet because the photo was not from today. Furthermore if you want to get technical the recommendation referred to social gatherings such as parties while the gathering in the photo was an official gathering to address the coronavirus issue which is quite different.

Trump has been a racist **** for his entire life so no he doesn’t deserve the benefit of the doubt. How does labelling it Chinese coronavirus help when talking about the US? You need to read this part again:

“Never mind that the World Health Organization and CDC agree that the virus is “the coronavirus” and that everyone should “ensure accurate and fair” reporting, as the Asian American Journalists Association says, by reducing social stigma. “Stigma occurs when people negatively associate an infectious disease with a specific population,” WHO announced. “People are being labelled, stereotyped, separated and/or experience loss of status and discrimination because of a potential negative affiliation with #COVID19.”

viruses are sometimes named after the region they were discovered in...for example Zika virus was discovered in the Zika forest of Uganda...Ebola virus was discovered in the Ebola River in the Democratic Republic of Congo

I don't agree with calling SARS-CoV-2 the Chinese virus since China is such a large country, but I don't see a problem if they called it the Wuhan virus since the outbreak initially happened in Wuhan.

If Trump called it the Wuhan virus would that also be racist in your eyes?

You were asked to leave Trump out of it and everyone needs to leave the politics out of it. Moderators have asked repeatedly for this. Is it a huge part of what's going on? Yes. Does that mean it's appropriate to discuss on the General NBA board? No. We are allowing this thread here because it has impacted the NBA and is impacting cities, but this isn't the place to discuss politics. No one wants to read the back and forth.

Statistically speaking that´s not true. 136000 listed members. Basically not possible that no one catches it. Very likely that multiple members of this board will need a hospital bed in the coming weeks.

Dude you guys are disrespecting the mods by spamming the Trump stuff (both pro and against). I get plenty of warnings and act like an ass sometimes, but like 5 mods have nicely asked us to stop the politics. PLEASE don't jeopardize this thread. Having you guys here as my only real outlet and for up to date news has been an amazing therapy for me with all we have going on. Just PM each other and debate on Trump.

Lets move on from a big argument about what Trump has called it. Yes, other viruses have been named after where they are from. Was this one? No. But Trump tweeted it anyway. It's understandable people think it's BS and it obviously looked like he purposefully didn't call it the coronavirus or CoVid19. Is this the right place to discuss it? No.

This is about the cities it is impacting because it has impacted the NBA. If you want to get into more political angles, there is a coronavirus thread on the CA board. viewtopic.php?f=69&t=1950411

Richfield wrote:Trump making this worse. It's called the Corona Virus. Why change that to suit your xenophobia? What possible use is it to blame this on the country of China? Does it make it go away??

Can only make things worse. In so many ways..

-Will encourage racists to do hate crimes against Americans of asian descent, and other innocent asian people.

-Chinese were producing and sending ventilator masks to the US. With this kind of talk, why should they?

-Will lead ignorant people into thinking if they don't see an Asian at a large crowd, they're safe.

Does absolutely no good to call this virus Chinese.

It doesn't speak Chinese, care who's Chinese when it contracts with people, lives in almost every country already, and doesn't know or care where it came from.

Those are just off the top of my head. He couldn't be handling this much worse.

Does anybody here, and please call it out if you do, see an ADVANTAGE to calling this the Chinese Virus?

Do you object to the term "MERS" or "African Swine Fever?"

This **** originated in China because of their **** regulations on wild game. They let this **** spread instead of alerting the world in November. Let's be real here.

I mean, that's a good thing?

It would make sense to test the more at risk people than her if testing is limited which is obviously is.

Testing is still a disaster. If people want to talk about something concrete instead of tweets and stuff that's what to talk about. Such a huge, huge failure that may end up killing a lot of people. I really want to know why we refused to use the WHO test that 60 other countries used.

I think this is a fair point. We can certainly debate why the testing is such a disaster... but the health authorities have to live with those poor decisions as best they can and right now there are only so many tests to go around.

Yes, I would have loved to have had a quick test. Would still like one. But everyone quoting the death rates here is just wrong. They are only death rates of those who have serious symptoms (that actually got a test and confirmed), so they are obviously going to be high. Death rates can only be accurate if everyone is tested.

Haha sorry. Anyway, yea it's the lesser evil. I just wish our medical system had protocols to handle the load of pandemics. I feel like most of the world is 20+ years behind what we should be. We all invest so much in war and tech that it's like medicine stuff fell by the wayside. I understand the logistics are insane to manage millions.

That´s related to Trump and we are not supposed to mention him because it would hurt the feelings of Hannity and his viewers.
Always remember...

"10/10"

"When you have 15 people, and the 15 within a couple of days is going to be down to close to zero, that's a pretty good job we've done."

"But the same vaccine could not work?“ Trump asked. „You take a solid flu vaccine – you don’t think that would have an impact, or much of an impact, on corona?“„No,“ Schleifer replied.

The genius that really gets this stuff doesn´t know how a flu shot or any other vaccine works.

Not about hurt feelings. Mods are simply saying post it on the politics board or private messages. It derails a thread that mods have been SUPER flexible with, and let us get away with a ton already. They don't want what's happened the last two pages where it becomes 100% Trump back and forth. The main point of this thread is for up to date news and happenings. So posting the Trump/Pence pressers etc, not a problem. Debating on if everything is Trump's fault? Politic forum.
