He was a high risk pick, definitely.. still not sure why we went for Olynyk.. I guess he had a higher floor, turned into a contributor more quickly, maybe Ainge thought the rebuild would take too long with Giannis, I vaguely remember reading something like that

Olynyk was actually a really good pick if you just ignore that a once-in-a-generation athletic freak was drafted immediately following. Olynyk goes higher in a re-draft, he got a big second contract, won a Game 7 for the Celtics, he was an above-average rotation piece on decent to better-than-decent teams his entire time in Boston, from Game 1 of his rookie season to when he killed the Wizards. If you're upset with the Olynyk pick, you have unrealistic expectations of this sport.

Olynyk was a single or a walk, Giannis was a home run swing.. It’s nice to hit on players like KO and reflects well on scouting and evaluation, but especially since we let him go in free agency, it’s hard not to regret being risk averse..

They’re tough calls, and it’s hard to complain about where the franchise is now.. The issue isn’t whether you hit or miss on one player, it’s how lucky and effective you are generally..

Honestly, in a weird sort of way, I'd love Olynyk back on THIS Celtics team. I think he'd be perfect off the bench with the guys we have here now. His ability to pass the ball at the arc and make shots and plays in the PnR would be great. He knows our team, our coach, our defense and what we like to do. And we even wouldn't be that distressed anymore about his penchant for passing up shots on a team like this. Never thought I would say it but I'd take him back if we could.
and that's "MR. Irrelevant" to you!!

 My only error was thinking he'd be available in the 2nd round. With that being said, I was sold on him when he was stated to be a 6'9 Rondo.

Let's delete this thread before other teams' GMs see it. We all know how they love to follow Ainge around due to his nose for talent.

Ah man

Don’t think this kid will amount to much. He will probably fall to borderline lotto pick so we could use the Memphis pick on him I guess if nothing else.

I didn’t want Kelly then and it had nothing to do with giannis but obviously giannis made it worse. Soft 7fter who couldn’t rebound.

Oladipo, Antetokunmpo, McCollum, Gobert, Adams, Schroder.....this turned out to be a much better draft than anticipated at the time.

Return to Boston Celtics
