300+ deaths a day in one country sounds insane to me..That's like 10,000 deaths in a month...average deaths in the US for the flu is like 16,000 annually..
Apparently there were 80,000 flu deaths during the 17/18 flu season (2 years ago).

Looks like the usual number of deaths annually in US are anywhere from 12000-60000. Still, 400 deaths a day is alarming.

This is hugely wrong and misleading (by no fault of your own). TRUE flu deaths (based on death certificates) may actually be more like 200-300 in a bad year. The CDC's method of tracking "flu deaths" is literally anyone admitted with ILI (influenza like illness) that dies. They infamously pair pneumonia deaths with flu.
https://aspe.hhs.gov/cdc-%E2%80%94-influenza-deaths-request-correction-rfc
US data on influenza deaths are false and misleading. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) acknowledges a difference between flu death and flu associated death yet uses the terms interchangeably. Additionally, there are significant statistical incompatibilities between official estimates and national vital statistics data. Compounding these problems is a marketing of fear—a CDC communications strategy in which medical experts "predict dire outcomes" during flu seasons.
The CDC website states what has become commonly accepted and widely reported in the lay and scientific press: annually "about 36 000 [Americans] die from flu" (www.cdc.gov/flu/about/disease.htm) and "influenza/pneumonia" is the seventh leading cause of death in the United States (www.cdc.gov/nchs/fastats/lcod.htm). But why are flu and pneumonia bundled together? Is the relationship so strong or unique to warrant characterizing them as a single cause of death? David Rosenthal, director of Harvard University Health Services, said, "People don't necessarily die, per se, of the [flu] virus—the viraemia. What they die of is a secondary pneumonia. So many of these pneumonias are not viral pneumonias but secondary [pneumonias]."
But Dr Rosenthal agreed that the flu/pneumonia relationship was not unique. For instance, a recent study (JAMA 2004;292: 1955-60[Abstract/Free Full Text]) found that stomach acid suppressing drugs are associated with a higher risk of community acquired pneumonia, but such drugs and pneumonia are not compiled as a single statistic. CDC states that the historic 1968-9 "Hong Kong flu" pandemic killed 34 000 Americans. At the same time, CDC claims 36 000 Americans annually die from flu. What is going on?

Testing starting to pick up significantly in the USA.
The data on this site seems about 24-36 hours behind where things are actually at:
https://covidtracking.com/data/
Still, the figure last night at about 11:00pm EST was around 56,700.
Less than 24 hours later it's at 76,495.
20,000 tests per day is a start. Still need it much higher than that, but it's an improvement.

Italy averages 640,000 deaths per year. That’s over 1700 deaths per day!!!! Without the coronavirus. People freak out about 400 deaths from this. People have a hard time comprehending huge numbers. Yes, 400 deaths from this per day is bad. But if you think 300 is insane did you think 1700 per day two months ago was insane as well?
Were you born stupid or did you become?
That's well over 20% more deaths per day! That's a gigantic increase!!!!!!

All you've done in this thread is constantly downplay the severity of this issue, the person who called you an idiot lives in Italy, understand he's living it now and you're making those comments. It is stupid.

But that 300-400+ number is attributed to one thing (or combined with other ailments, but made prevalent with covid19)..What other disease/ailment kills 3-400 people a day in Italy? How many flu deaths are there in Italy per year? So one virus contributed to what equals to ~20% rate of annual deaths in Italy and you are not concerned?
In 3 weeks in Italy we had 3,000 deaths and that f... idiot say it's nothing...
The US had 4,4000 death in 8 years in the Iraq war...
Dude I said it’s bad. All I said is large numbers are hard for some to comprehend, yet I still said it’s bad. Now go back to your concrete bunker and quarantine. Your cell or computer or whatever your typing on is more germ filled than a toilet FYI.

Cmon man, we are talking about one type of virus on pace to causing like a 20% jump in deaths for a country annually and you are saying that is a small number when compared to the total amount of deaths in the country from literally everything else (accidents, other diseases, murders, etc). Do you realize how ignorant that sounds? No, that is not a small number compared to everything else..

Hey, math genius... If it continues at 400 deaths per day, that works out to 146,000 people.
If anyone has a hard time comprehending numbers here, it's you.
Would have to see how it plays out, most deaths are over 80 (70-79 as well) and most had cardiovascular disease. Still a large amount over a course of a year.

I was responding to someone saying 300 deaths are insane. I took it as a total of 300 deaths is insane when Italy averages 1700 any day of the year. If it was in fact 300 deaths only talking of the coronavirus then I apologize. But like I said I read it as he was shocked at 300 deaths for a country overall is insane

"100 people die a day from the Flu compared to Coronavirus."
But is the Flu being quarantined? If Coronavirus wasn't being quarantined, you would see about 300 people die a day from Coronavirus.
