I will always remember Wilbur Ross telling us that a virus outbreak would actually be a good thing for the country. The incompetence of these people is legendary.

Then why are you so against people urging others to do their parts as well? What you've been posting in this thread doesn't logically follow with what you're doing.

Because there are a lot of fear mongering words and panic being thrown around in this thread. I’m being calm about this situation while being careful. I also am looking at all sides and realize the amount of lives we are saving by these measures are also ruining other people’s lives economically and we all know troubles economically lead to suicide, torn families, drug addiction, crime sometimes

All we had to do is test every single person and quarantine the positive tests and it would be almost over. The problem is we're still waiting on tests.

Also, Trump's announcement regarding the authorization of the Defense Production Act wasn't actually meant to combat it today. He is only saying that he might use it in the future when it is too late to take measure to effectively combat the virus.

So...why can't we throw like $1B on tests? How much does every test cost? Or is the problem supply?

They essentially privatized the tests, they will make a profit off them, that is what's taking so long. Also, they want to keep infected numbers down.

Wouldn't shock me if they allow blue states to get hammered too, Cuomo (NY) has been asking for the Army Corps of Engineers for days now, nothing.

Supply has been a big issue. The tests are based on testing for viral genetic markers, which involves DNA testing process and equipment. It’s harder to scale that sort of testing up, among other things.

Apparently they don't have the supply.

Man I hope you can convince him otherwise. He has just about every co-morbidity factor in the book (I’m not sure about diabetes, I have read obesity is a factor.)

I know it's unrealistic...but imagine if we took over the Tesla factory like some were saying and just produced test kits day and night. We could send the kits to the outbreak areas (every citizen) and could eliminate this in weeks

It's not that hard. The test they use for this is a very standard type of test that is done all the time. Even grad students could design one easily.

You are correct though, that there are supply issues with things like reagents. However, that is largely because of dithering and incompetence, not because the test is particularly complicated.

We have companies like LabCorp and Quest that can do a massive amount of tests. If we had been ramping them up 4-6 weeks ago we'd have plenty of tests right now

Yes I remember that. But it's more than incompetence, is that combined with complete and utter cluelty, sociopathy, and greed.

I don’t know the exact current status, but in the early stages it wasn’t even test kit availability that was an issue (although that may have been a problem too.) It’s the throughput to process thousands/millions of these tests by labs.
