It may not end until the pandemic is over, the government might need to enforce rations on people, limit what people are allowed to buy. I still don't understand the urgency to buy toilet paper, I've been saying buy canned goods and dried foods like pasta.

Re: OT: Panic Buying. When Will it End?
I was totally agreeing for the fact that masks don’t protect you from the flu-
Well the truth is that it doesn’t protect you 100%
It’s like a virgin putting on a condom and hoping he won’t get HIV- no put one on when you get a girlfriend (or bf)
However I’ve changed my stance- since 4 of 5 people with the virus has no symptoms but still sheds the virus
We need to advocate for everyone to wear a mask even if it’s a cloth mask or pillowcase
? Why cuz it will reduce you spreading it to others- now but 100% but down even 50% with a scarf
This will flatten the curve. The problem is the masks are running out in my hospital
We need people to start making more masks

Well most of the people that were panicking and mass buying should be stocked up now. It should at least die down a bit.
The toilet paper thing is weird. Also chicken being sold out but no one touching turkey is also a little weird. It was actually on sale when I went (ground, part and whole).

Just went to my local BMO and the lady working there had a mask over her mouth but not her nose, and wearing gloves...while touching her cheek multiple times while talking lol
Maybe Canada needs to do a PSA because this etiquette isn't common sense.

As if operating a mask is so beyond the general public....how insulting. You could teach a toddler to use a mask properly
SO TEACH PEOPLE HOW TO WEAR THEM PROPERLY! Just like they do everything else (example:how to wash your hands). How many articles have we read about how to properly wash our hands?
A video like this would be helpful

all the places that wear masks (Singapore, Taiwan, HK) are containing it well, while all the ones that have officials that say they don't do anything (USA, Europe) are absolutely f*cked lol (Canada soon too). I wonder who's right?

Wearing masks in China? Oh wait...
If you are healthy and a mask helps you out 5% great. But if you then touch your face more often it could make it worse. Everyone wants a mask but no one wants goggles that you can easily go out and buy...
It is more and more common to wear masks in China yet the flu cases have increased 50% each year from 2015-2018. They had more deaths January 2019 than all of the year prior.
Those countries are doing well because they are testing more people.

Staying home, not going out unless essential, is the first thing to do unfortunately. But people don't want to hear that, or some have to go out and work and their companies won't shut down, or can't, but that's what it's going to take. it spreads through my
How long do you think I need to wear the condom for btw?

9. Similarly, IF THOU HAST SPENT the entire offseason predicting that thy team will stink, thou shalt not gloat, nor even be happy, shouldst thou turn out to be correct. Realistic analysis is fine, but be a fan first, a smug smarty-pants second.

Yeah but that is it going straight through the material. If the material isn't fitted correctly it can still get sucked through gaps and also leads to people touching their face more.

It doesn't matter. Nobody is claiming masks provide 100% protection. They simply reduce spread, and that's all they need to do.
Your argument that some people might touch their faces more with masks on isn't relevant since some people won't touch their faces more (a number that would increase if the government released a PSA on mask use). Again, masks aren't designed to offer 100% protection to 100% of the population. They are simply meant to reduce spread.

Was just at my local supermarket (Richmond hill) and the only thing they didn’t have was frozen veggies. Even had some toilet paper.
Looks like all the crazies have their bomb shelters full of supplies now so the rest of us can go back to shopping somewhat normally.

If it reduces spread by a certain amount but then most people touch their face more, therefore negating the benefit of the mask and actually make it worse, how is that good? How does that reduce spread?
If you are sick, it helps stop the spread. If you are not it is negligible (sometimes worse) and supplies should be going towards health care workers. the vast majority do not have the virus so a mask is not going to do much so to risk our limited supply at this point is not very smart. Sure if you are coughing and sneezing you should have one to prevent spreading.
I see people constantly doing things that are putting them and others at risk that do not affect valuable supplies but they continue to risk it

You're attributing it to one thing where there was far more they did. And Singapore and SK are far more socially conscience than the western world.
As for the post above, people don't understand why women in Asia wear masks in the first place without the flu or covid. It is not health related ... at all. And it is not all the time. I'm going to just leave it at that.

Though I agree the lady needs a bit more common sense, the point of wearing a mask during this pandemic is not much of protecting the person wearing the mask, but rather, protecting the people that are around the person wearing the mask. If she covered her month with the mask, then there's less chance of "droplets" getting out and being exposed to you the customer. Before this pandemic, people (mostly in Asia but a lot of asians do this here in the GTA) wear masks when they are sick and have a cold but have to go to work or school out of respect for others. People didn't wear masks because they are scared they might catch something. And it is especially important to wear masks now because the COVID-19 can be present in individuals who are asymptomatic so if you feel fine and don't think you have it, you could very well have it and if you don't wear a mask out in the public then droplets can come out when you are talking and drop on the table our counter and someone else can touch that and then touch their face and get the virus.

You're choosing an outlier which I specifically didn't mention. It's the origin of outbreak which was also ignored for 3 months before their government did anything. And the ones I mentioned aren't doing well purely because of testing, it's because they're actually enforcing quarantine.

I know what they do, I read Taiwan news often and my uncle lives there. They have hand sanitizers in public places and deny anyone who's showing symptoms into places like banks, post offices, and libraries, and they actually enforce quarantine through tracking. Wearing masks is just one thing but it's still a crucial thing. And most importantly they don't have irresponsible clowns like that bar that was open in Cornwall yesterday for St Patricks parties. I specifically never mentioned SK either because their problem is they had a whole church congregation spreading it to everyone else, they didn't enforce quarantine fast enough.

So essentially masks aren't recommended because governments (Canada/US) didn't stockpile.

They did stockpile... but just for essential services. But yeah, essentially, you got it right. Not a ton of foresight really in letting the entire manufacturing be offshored.

No, haven't you heard? masks only work for Dr.'s and Nurses, because the masks know who's wearing them.
