That would be Rolands "Improbably Not Related to Rik" Smits.

Re: Indiana Pacers Draft Pick Watch Thread
So.... Whats the temperature like on the Brogdon decision right about now?
There was a chance that if Brogdon stays healthy and Oladipo comes back strong that that pick ends up being pretty late in the first round. When you combine that with the fact that we spent 99% of the season playing at a 70 win pace i think what we ended up with was the best case scenario.
Then you had the evolution of Donte who took advantage of those vacated minutes. Malcolm then proving to be more injury prone than ever. Idk, is there really any doubt that this was a good decision? If we hit on the draft pick, thats pretty much a slam dunk, right?

I think Donte's development with opportunity makes the decision look wise. I'm not going to give 100% credit to the Bucks' FO for predicting Brogdon's injuries but given that was certainly a factor in letting him walk, the fact that he's had five separate injuries this year makes them look prescient. If you think about the fact that we could have started the repeater tax clock in a season in which there was no champion crowned and Brogdon was injured much of the time anyway, it looks like we dodged a bullet. Altogether I don't know if it could have worked out much better in terms of positives coming out of it and avoiding negatives.
Hopefully the season starts back up and we can take that avoided negative off the list and replace it with the biggest possible positive.

I think I take Mannion, but I like his teammate Josh Green more than either of them.
Vassell declared for the draft today. With everything going on, hadn't really internalized yet that college basketball is officially over.

Feels like Cassius Stanley is getting mocked too low. He could be a monster 3&D guy with the right coaching staff. Shades of Donte (which is also a great working title for an erotic romance novel).

I would love another Donte. Could you imagine?

I want to like Cassius, but he just isn't very good at basketball. World class athlete and plays hard though. Bad shooter, zero shot creation, can't put the ball on the floor, low BBIQ.
Aside from effort and athleticism, I don't see many similarities to Donte, IMO. I guess is timing as a cutter, maybe. If Bud thinks he can get him to be a respectable C&S guy on O, disruptive on D and a fast break missile, I would be okay with him. He's just raw and old for his class.
Vassell/Green remind me of Donte a bit.

Not a fan either. He's pretty far away from Donte too. Donte reads the game defensively like no other.

With the salary cap going down, who are we using this pick on to dump salary to avoid the tax?

Interesting thought.
Or to try another angle, how do they justify not dropping it so the big market teams keep their gangs together? And then we benefit sneakily?

We don't have any salaries bad enough that I'd even consider giving up a pick to dump. Keep the pick!

Re: Indiana Pacers Draft Pick Watch Thread
Keep in mind that the salary for the pick goes down aswell. Assuming the cap goes back up (which is quite a leap imo) you can get an absolute bargain if you nail the pick.
With this year being a crap shoot (no march madness, ineligability, lots of international players) this could end up being a very important pick. Also I kinda doubt that they'll have every team paying luxury tax. Something in the CBA will change.

After thinking about it for all of about 10 minutes, I'd probably take this Nesmith fellow. Keep Korver one more year and keep this dude glued to his hip, every minute of every day.

I like him but I'm always vary of single season shooting improvement especially given the small sample size. That said I don't get how he's mocked. If you buy his elite high volume shooting he has to be a lottery pick (and an early one at that).

Nesmith is super intriguing, but agree the sample size is small. I think I buy it though, watching him let it rip in a variety of ways and look super comfortable doing it is impressive. On the move, off of screens, C&S, you name it--he knocks that **** down.
One guy creeping up my board is Grant "The Thriller, The Killer" Riller. Elite first step, good athlete, can rise up on anyone, anytime, scores from all three levels. Kinda reminds me of a young George Hill actually. Needs to improve his D, but he was the entire Charleston offense so I can't blame him for resting a bit on that end. He certainly has the tools and the attitude to be a total package.

What I haven't mentioned before is that Vanderbilt had a coaching change. While I mentioned before that such a single season improvement is implausible, it is also plausible that a new coach that has tremendously embraced the modern game with the Raptors 905 could unleash a player that potentially was held back by the system. Either way, if you buy the shooting at his level, you have to talk about another Buddy Hield level prospect. Mocking him in the late teens feels way off.

Re: Indiana Pacers Draft Pick Watch Thread
I don't think there's much doubt on Nesmith's shooting for me, it's legit. His shooting from the line is identical to his freshman season as well (82.5%) which is usually a solid indicator that your shot can translate. He doesn't have a lightning quick release but good mechanics, and he's gonna be a guy you can't leave open at anytime. Issue for me is his upside beyond the shooting. Will he be a poor on-ball defender or anything more than an average team defender? Does he have any versatility to his offensive game, or is he just gonna be a one-dimensional shooting specialist?
