NY reporting zero recovered. So basically everyone is still sick. Not a good ratio. Wonder how many recent flu deaths nationwide were actually COVID?

It's pretty clear that the entire western world isn't ready for a crisis like this. The big thing will be what we do once this is over. We need to put protocols in place and we need to contribute part of our military budget into preparation for the next virus.

What do you mean 0 recovered? Cuomo always mentions that first healthcare worker who got it from Iran that recovered.

The Trump Administration just fired the entire Peace Corps without any benefits:

Well FL peeps, wouldn't be surprised if by the end of the weekend this was official.

FL is going to be an absolute disaster. Super at risk population and they did not take it seriously.

I'm pretty happy I live in NC. Our governor acted pretty early (although we still aren't shut down enough) and our positive rate has been pretty low so far.
I told my boss today that NY and CA have been put in lock down and eventually that will find its way to Florida. He is a boomer in denial.

My employer just gave us today 3 weeks of paid covid related time off, prob end up WFH but still having to go to the office for now. This is happening in FL, the unknown length of time is what got me antsy.

No clue. I wouldn't complain but I think it'd be so silly if I was paid because I qualified even though I'm still working.

Layoffs/furloughs don't matter. It's solely based on 2018 tax returns. If you didn't file in 2018, but files in 2019, that would be used instead.

Yeah and it's called not testing enough. That's what that slope is showing. Plain and simple. Not. Testing. Enough.

I’ve been pretty stressed and a little sickly so my gf made me vanilla lemon cupcakes with blueberries on them. Completely low carb and just as delicious as they look. Really picked up my spirits today. She also washed my hair and gave me a haircut. Damn I’m spoiled and lucky.

A lot of SEA is about to deal with a second wave of imported cases from Europe and the US. Hong Kong already had a big spike the last couple of days as college students return home, and I'm sure Singapore, Korea, Japan, etc. will be next.

It's a reminder that this thing is probably going to be around for a while in cycles.

An idea for the leaders making decisions..

Instead of restricting the hours on things like going out grocery shopping (we've seen that some places), instead expand hours or create incentive for groceries to be open around the clock.

Smaller crowds. Less lines. Spread out the shoppers.

Some people are willing to shop at 3am (especially now). Why force them to stand with people that shop at 3pm, and vice versa?

Gitter done.

Kinda like how you can't give a tax cut to people who don't pay taxes. I can't come up with anything else.

You hit the nail on the head. They don’t get their money back since they didn’t give any to begin with essentially. Not saying it’s right but that is almost certainly the main thought behind it.

This. It's supposed to be income replacement. If you earn $25k/year, $1200 covers about 2.5 weeks salary (before taxes). If you earn $2500, $600 is about 3 months worth. If you make nothing, you theoretically haven't been affected by the lack of work.

"According to CDC, this year's flu season has led to at least 17 million medical visits and 370,000 hospitalizations. CDC found that the percentage of outpatient visits for influenza-like illness increased to 5.2% in the week ending on March 7, up from 5.1% the previous week. The national baseline for those visits is 2.4%.

CDC estimated that there have been at least 22,000 deaths related to the flu so far this season."

So I'm not sure why you're insinuiting that the flu is not serious.
I've posted this dozens of times. CDC tracks ILI (Influenza LIKE illness). It groups pneumonia deaths. Almost nobody dies straight up from the flu. This is a completely different animal. Rather than flu weakening you to pneumonia, this actually CAUSES viral pneumonia. Key distinction.

Isolate jus the "flu" deaths and they are still rather high.

Also, the point stands. Whether it's the flu, pneumonia, or something else. No one freaks out about any of those things.

Maybe we should start social distancing all of the time to try to prevent some of those deaths.

COVID-19 has increased the death rate in Italy by over 20%!

Over the last 6 months or so Italy had like ~2.6 million cases of flu and 240 deaths.

COVID-19 has killed 4032 out of 47021 cases in the last few weeks.

People are answering Cuomos call, garment makers across the US are making masks, people donating gloves, they're even using 3d printers for masks.
