I went to my grocery store yesterday at 10PM. It was great. Just a handful of people in a giant supermarket with no lineups. I used the self serve checkout for easy in and out. Store looks about 3 quarter stocked, still no toilet paper, canned and frozen foods but most things still there.

To buy a physical copy of **** Animal Crossing. For those who don't know, every video game today is available digitally (and has been for like a decade). I play a lot of video games, and I haven't bought a physical copy of a game since 2007 (I have like 200 games in my Steam library; I also have a Switch, with all my games there being digital copies too). I already have a low opinion of people who buy physical copies (just think of all the plastic waste created by the industry), but this takes it down another notch.

The grocery store I went to had a limit of 1 pack of toilet paper per customer. Of course the entire row of shelves were still empty.

Toilet paper is less important than the food you need in order to use the toilet paper. I'm talking about limits on canned goods, rice, beans, flour, bread, pasta, etc.

To be fair, most of those people probably spent $100 on a pre-order (or $400+ if they got the special edition console and game), obviously not knowing what was to come in March. A large chunk of those people are probably out of jobs and looking for things to do for the next few week as well, so I can somewhat understand why they felt the need to go to the store to get the game they already paid for rather than spend another $100 on a digital copy. It still doesn't make it right though.

BC with another 77 cases today bringing the total to 348. Most of them in a few senior homes where residents and staff got infected. This is getting ridiculous. Why are the cases rising every day? When I head out, the streets are definitely more empty as people are practicing social distancing. Most businesses are closed. All restaurants closed, delivery and take out only. Feels like our cases should be declining not rising.

Because there are still citizens returning from abroad and also possibly means community transmission already occurred before the social distancing was implemented

People returning from travel and coming back without self isolating isn't helping either. Long story short people really aren't taking this seriously and most likely wont until they experience full Italy.

Korea had terrible results? They are located right next to China and are major trading partners. Korea saw their first outbreak around the same time as Italy.

Korea today:

8,652 cases
94 deaths
1.1% mortality rate

Italy today:

47,021 cases (grossly underestimated by their own admission)

8.6% mortality rate

Korea has arguably handled the outbreak better than any country. Their.case only strengthens the argument that masks are an important part of containing an outbreak.

At one point they were one of the top in infection rate per person while wearing masks. They then locked everything down and tested people like crazy. I'm not debating on whether they handled it better (because they did), I'm saying until they took serious action, their masks did not do a whole lot

The virus only spread massively there because members of a large cult got infected and didn't take any precautions. I can't speak for the efficacy of everyone wearing masks but I'm of the opinion that when everyone is wearing one, it at least tells us that people are taking it more seriously. Italy unfortunately found that out too late and it seems the US and the UK did not learn.

Sorry they didn't lock down everything, but anywhere were they suspected a threat, also quarantined 29,000 people and have tested a tremendous amount of people. They also enforced a law to track peoples GPS from phones, credit cards, etc - something that over here infringes on people's rights. I don't have a problem with that but I'm sure some people do

One of the worst thing you can do is touch your face. It's the reason even in a clinical setting a superior N95 masks performs basically the same as a surgical mask despite it being superior in lab testing, because people do not put it on correctly, touch their face more, adjust them, and do not take them off properly.

For people that are healthy it is just as likely, if not more so, to have a negative effect. It is for people that are suspected to be sick and have shown symptoms and for health care workers in case they have it and do not spread it people that are compromised ( or anyone helping those people, ie droping off supplies).

If you are healthy and wearing a mask without goggles you are not really protecting yourself anyways (without touching your face), just preventing the spread if you were unknowingly sick which the vast majority are not, and if you are more than likely not sick and it's likely worse for a healthy person to wear one that also helps increase the spread. There might be a point where that changes, ie more people suspected to be sick, but not right now. Especially with them in short supply.

I heard from radio, they said they can refund games in full within 7 days when they bought it in store. Now as EB said they are closing the stores for 2 weeks, there will be no refund for these people it seems. Since the game is for younger kids, most people who lined up are adults / parents, and people are surprised for them being a bad example.

As a nurse, i'll chime in on the mask debate.

Firstly, N95s are designed to prevent the transmission of airborne particles. Stuff like tuberculosis for example. You also need to get fit tested to see what size fits. There needs to be an air tight seal or else it defeats the entire point of the mask. You also should be clean shaven or the seal is broken.

In that case, a surgical mask is best, only if you're sick. If you're not sick, no need to be wearing a mask, unless someone sneezes into your face. Even if you're wearing a mask, and someone sneezes into your face, those particles will get in your eye, and you can still get infected.

So what to do? Cough or sneeze into your elbow, and stay home. If you feel sick, stay home, wear a mask. I can't find a mask anywhere and it's because of hoarders.

Don't touch your face often, wash your hands frequently. Instead of stupidly buying loads of toilet paper (since when was this some gastrointestinal disease?), buy some fresh foods, consume vitamin C, boost your immune system, get rest, and stay home.

Keep hand sanitizer in your car or for when you don't have access to soap and water. Soap and water will ALWAYS be better than hand sanitizer. Always. Always. If you're home and you use sanitizer, you're wasting it.

Stay safe friends, keep a good distance from people in public.

I went to the Walmart yesterday in Vaughan near where I live. They have limits now on essentials like TP, flour etc etc. And in the lineups they have taped marked one metre apart so people can know how far to stand from each other. They seem to have adapted pretty well. Just sucks that I can't find hand sanitizer anywhere.
