Yes! They need to release ASAP. I am sure that all they would need to do is put some final editing touches on some of the episodes and that most of the content has been finalized and approved for a while now.

i'm not sure there were any die-hard bulls fans prior to MJ
i would have liked to be a bulls fan during the early-to-mid 70s...of course, games weren't televised. i didn't realize that the bulls were a half away from going to the finals in the last year that team was together (up 11 at halftime on the warriors in san francisco in game 7). but bob love chucked them out of the game, which was apparently his habit, going 6/26

And, will it be on Netflix or what? I don’t follow.
It was going to be released in June but now it seems it's possible it'll get moved up a few months.
From what I understand, the doc will first be played on ESPN, then Netflix later in the year.

dougthonus wrote:Shorter contracts have hurt too. Players now have the option to make that decision more frequently than in the past. This is good and bad for both players and the league depending how it works out. Another thing is that LeBron's move to Miami kicked off a wave of team building by players where they move to play with each other. We've seen Durant, Kryie, Kawhi, George, LeBron, and Davis all effectively make moves to play with specific guys they wanted in the last year.
True, and it'll probably happen more frequently as we go along. Shortening the contracts encouraged player movement, which was the plan together with protecting the franchises from huge deadweight contracts that ran long. That's why my bet is on foreign players staying on one franchise because they didn't grow up in the AAU system where they already have "buddies" that also became star players who they'd want to play with.

It was originally scheduled for June after the NBA finals. It is now listed as "coming soon" and the thought is it may try and hit during the quarantine period.
And, will it be on Netflix or what? I don’t follow.
Initially ESPN with netflix following later.

Re: The Last Dance 10 Part Documentary
So now I just read it's saying "coming soon" instead of "June 2nd" because production isn't done yet. So, now it looks to be later??

Yeah I can see Steph and Klay being GSW lifers, but I can also see them moving on to other teams. I also think that foreign superstar are more likely to stay on one team because they'd feel indebted to the franchise that took a chance on them. My guess is Luka and/or Giannis have good chances of staing on their teams til they retire, specially if they can win a title there.
Seems like you need a few things for that to happen:
1: You need to be good enough to win titles or complete
2: You need to be able to lessen your role on the team as you age
3: You need a player who isn't greedy and realizes his value is receding
4: You need an owner that values having a star his whole career
It's really those last few years that it's hard to keep guys because the player can almost always make more somewhere else than by staying with the team and the team direction changes where it doesn't make sense to keep that player.
Agreed with everything. You'd need a star who'd be willing go through some rough times because it's likely to happen in a long career, unless your FO is super good or super lucky, maybe even both.
The most important thing is winning a title or at least being a perennial contender, but even that might not be enough. Another tricky part is when the star starts to age, will that player be willing to cede the reins a little bit or would he be willing to change his role for the team. It'd take a special player and a special team for that to happen in this day and age.
I think the "this day and age it won't happen" nostalgia is somewhat overblown. Pre-1990 free agency was pretty limited so it happened a lot more. Since then, the rules have been relatively consistent and playing on 1 team is very uncommon but happening at close to the same rate. Players aren't less loyal today than in the 1960's. It's just that players back then just didn't have options and leverage.
Regardless, the rules you both laid down are 100% spot on for the conditions that need to be present for someone to play a whole career in one place.

I was a young pup when MJ was drafted. My sister who is 9 years older than me sat me down to tell me how important this was. I was 8 and I had no idea what she was talking about. She also sat me down to tell me how Pippen was going to make us a championship team, and while I understood a bit more at that time I had no idea how right she was. It's pretty crazy, glad she schooled me on that and got me into the Bulls. Damn that was a great childhood to be able to witness all of that. My brother was 20 years my senior and he took me to a bunch of games. he was a big Love and Norm fan. My father really was a baseball guy. He obviously enjoyed the championships (he was born in 1924) but it wasn't his passion. My siblings showed me the way.

Yeah I grew up hearing about that game and the Flying Frenchmen.
I would agree, there weren't many diehards prior to Jordan, I mean there were but it wasn't like it was for the Hawks, Cubs, Bears and even White Sox.

“Overall, any original content project that we can conceivably move up, we are obviously considering that, including films,” Burke Magnus, ESPN’s executive vice president of programming, acquisitions and scheduling, said in a Q&A the network issued Tuesday.
“I know some have asked about ‘The Last Dance,’ and the reality is that the production of that film has not yet been completed, so we are limited there at the moment. Obviously, you can’t air it until it’s done.”
Nothing mentions delay.
They mention they would like to move up, but they are limited in options until it is done.
I would read this as they will release as soon as possible. My guess is that's probably before June, but not eminently.

Ha yeah I had a good basketball upbringing. My childhood was not by any means good! Very very screwed up but basketball saved my sanity in a lot of ways.

agree that they will release it as soon as possible...unless the season resumes first, in which case it might actually be postponed depending on whether the finals are pushed back. i think that ESPN is betting that they'll be able to release the doc before the season resumes (if it does). otherwise why run the promos now

Of course this isn't that surprising. It takes a while for a franchise to develop for hard fans. The bulls have only been in existence since 1966
