Q: The first question everyone has is how are you?

A: Well, I'm sort of exhausted. But other than that, I'm good. I mean, I'm not, to my knowledge, coronavirus infected. To my knowledge, I haven't been fired. [Laughs.]

Q: How are you managing to not get fired?

A: Well, that's pretty interesting because to his [Trump’s] credit, even though we disagree on some things, he listens. He goes his own way. He has his own style. But on substantive issues, he does listen to what I say.

Q: You’ve been in press conferences where things are happening that you disagree with, is that fair to say?

A: Well, I don't disagree in the substance. It is expressed in a way that I would not express it, because it could lead to some misunderstanding about what the facts are about a given subject.

Q: You stood nearby while President Trump was in the Rose Garden shaking hands with people. You're a doctor. You must have had a reaction like, ‘Sir, please don't do that.’

A: Yes, I say that to the task force. I say that to the staff. We should not be doing that. Not only that—we should be physically separating a bit more on those press conferences. To his credit, the vice president [Mike Pence] is really pushing for physical separation of the task force [during meetings]. He keeps people out of the room—as soon as the room gets like more than 10 people or so, it’s, ‘Out, everybody else out, go to a different room.’ So with regard to the task force, the vice president is really a bear in making sure that we don't crowd 30 people into the Situation Room, which is always crowded. So, he's definitely adhering to that. The situation on stage [for the press briefings] is a bit more problematic. I keep saying, ‘Is there any way we can get a virtual press conference?’ Thus far, no. But when you're dealing with the White House, sometimes you have to say things one, two, three, four times, and then it happens. So, I'm going to keep pushing.

Q: You're standing there saying nobody should gather with more than 10 people and there are almost 10 people with you on the stage. And there are certainly more than 10 journalists there asking questions.

A: I know that. I’m trying my best. I cannot do the impossible.

Q: What about the travel restrictions? Trump keeps saying that the travel ban for China, which began 2 February, had a big impact [on slowing the spread of the virus to the United States] and that he wishes China would have told us 3 to 4 months earlier and that they were “very secretive.” [China did not immediately reveal the discovery of a new coronavirus in late December 2019, but by 10 January, Chinese researchers made the sequence of the virus public.] It just doesn't comport with facts.

A: I know, but what do you want me to do? I mean, seriously Jon, let’s get real, what do you want me to do?

Q: Most everyone thinks that you’re doing a remarkable job, but you're standing there as the representative of truth and facts, but things are being said that aren't true and aren't factual.

A: The way it happened is that after he made that statement [suggesting China could have revealed the discovery of a new coronavirus 3 to 4 months earlier], I told the appropriate people, it doesn't comport, because 2 or 3 months earlier would have been September. The next time they sit down with him and talk about what he’s going to say, they will say, ‘By the way, Mr. President, be careful about this and don't say that.’ But I can't jump in front of the microphone and push him down. OK, he said it. Let's try and get it corrected for the next time.

Q: You have not said China virus. [Trump frequently calls the cause of the spreading illness known as coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) a “China virus” or a “Chinese virus.”]

A: Ever.

Q: And you never will, will you?

A: No.

Q: I'm curious about some things that aren't happening on a national scale. One is, why are shelter in place orders happening state by state? Why are we doing this sequentially? Is that a mistake?

A: No, I don't think we could say it's a mistake or not a mistake. There is a discussion and a delicate balance about what’s the overall impact of shutting everything down completely for an indefinite period of time. So, there's a compromise. If you knock down the economy completely and disrupt infrastructure, you may be causing health issues, unintended consequences, for people who need to be able to get to places and can't. You do the best you can. I've emphasized very emphatically at every press conference, that everybody in the country, at a minimum, should be following the fundamental guidelines. Elderly, stay out of society in self isolation. Don't go to work if you don't have to. Yada, yada, yada. No bars, no restaurants, no nothing. Only essential services. When you get a place like New York or Washington or California, you have got to ratchet it up. But it is felt—and it isn't me only speaking, it’s a bunch of people who make the decisions—that if you lock down everything now, you're going to crash the whole society. So, you do what you can do, as best as you can. Do as much physical separation as you can and ratchet it up at the places you know are at highest risk.

Q: But I heard a guy say, if you think you're doing too much, you're probably doing the right amount.

A: That’s me.

Q: I know it's you. The “15 Days to Slow the Spread” campaign doesn't mention religious gatherings. I know Pence mentioned them yesterday. But why aren’t they on the 15 days recommendations? All these other places are mentioned.

A: It was implied in no crowds of more than 10 people. But you’re right, crowds in church are important and every time I get a chance to say it, I mention it. I can't really criticize them strongly for that at all. When you say less than 10, it makes common sense that it involves the church. I say it publicly and even the vice president has said it publicly.

Q: What happens before each press conference? What do you do as a group?

A: We're in the task force. We sit down for an hour and a half, go over all the issues on the agenda. And then we proceed from there to an anteroom right in front of the Oval Office to talk about what are going to be the messages, what are the kind of things we're going to want to emphasize? Then we go in to see the president, we present [our consensus] to him and somebody writes a speech. Then he gets up and ad libs on his speech. And then we're up there to try and answer questions.

Q: At Friday’s press conference, you put your hands over your face when Trump referred to the “deep State Department,” [a popular conspiracy theory]. It’s even become an internet meme. Have you been criticized for what you did?

A: No comment.

Q: We've seen creative ideas about how to respond in other countries that we aren’t adopting. China uses thermometers at supermarkets before letting people in. Should we be considering that?

A: Yes, of course. I think the logistics of that have to be worked out. That was discussed. All these things are discussed. Not all of them are implemented. This is something that should be considered. I will bring it up at the next task force meeting and see whether there’s some sort of a logistical, bureaucratic reason why it can't be done. The rationale for doing it is at least worth serious consideration.

Q: Big Picture: We've had all this pandemic preparedness. Why did this fail? What went wrong?

A: I think we'll have to wait until it is over and we look back before we can answer that. It's almost like the fog of war. After the war is over, you then look back and say, ‘Wow, this plan, as great as it was, didn't quite work once they started throwing hand grenades at us.’ It really is similar to that. Obviously, testing [for the new coronavirus] is one clear issue that needs to be relooked at. Why were we not able to mobilize on a broader scale? But I don't think we can do that right now. I think it's premature. We really need to look forward.

Q: Right now, why do we have a travel ban on visitors from China when there are few cases in China other than imported cases? What's the logic?

A: I'm sorry. I was just looking at two text messages, one from a governor and one from the White House. I gotta get off.

Still, he (surprisingly) said quite a bit. His answer "No Comment" was a great example of "no answer is actually an answer."

Read on Twitter

Kudlow is one of the top people running the task force and he is not only a raging idiot, he is also according to my sources a drunk and had a horrible coke habit. I can't confirm if he is still a hard core drug user, but he still appears on TV inebriated and slurring his words.

This guy is a complete joke. Now he's on TV pushing the 15 day idea, i.e. in two weeks we need to reopen everything and get back to business and accept that there will be some infections.

These bastards are making all of their decisions based on two principles:

(a) What benefits getting re-elected?

and

(b) How can we profit from this crisis?

The self-fulfilling irony of that is the more they base their decisions on these twin pillars, the more likely they are to screw things up more and get voted out of office.

Please allow me to explain how these criminals operate

The current bill being blocked by the Dems has a $500B no strings attached, completely anonymized, blank check slush fund that would allow Treasury Secretary Mnuchin to write checks to anyone Trump chooses. They would not have to disclose who they cut checks to for six months. And then you would have to file a FOIA request to get that data which they would then shield by claiming executive privilege. No data, no accountability.

Trump has already raised a half billion for his 2020 campaign fund. He wants more.

Any corporation that donates x amount to Trump's campaign fund will then get rewarded with 10x in relief funds, i.e. you donate $5M, we'll give you $50M.

That means Trump could inflate his campaign fund to many billions of dollars which would be unprecedented.

Trump is currently under separate investigations for using his inaugural fund and his charities as personal checkbooks.

In a nutshell, Trump will try anything he can get away with to use this crisis to extract billions of dollars for themselves. That's what you get when you have criminals in the WH and a rogue Senate that protects their fraud, because the GOP is all in on the grift.

They work. If you do them.

We're still in a social environment of random voluntary compliance and a governmental patchwork of variant strategies.

Italy was supposed to reach it's peak today. Maybe it peaked a little earlier.

That's great news. Italy has one of the one of the highest population densities which is why it had such a problem in the beginning. Biden weaponized that to attack the country's (and by extension Bernie's) M4A system when it had nothing to do with it. In fact, I have no doubt that the post-mortem report which show how having a M4A system saves many many lives there.

A comment about Chloroquine

It is not a toy drug

Some people tried to use it on their own to inoculate themselves which is not just illogical to start with, but dangerous. It is not a preventative for the virus, but only possibly a cure for some, if at all. Well, one of them died, the other is in critical condition.

I can say from personal experience that I got a malaria vaccination back in 2010 and it made me very ill. I was crapping blood and falling over because it destroyed my inner equilibrium for a day. I had a very toxic experience and that is the case for something like 15-20% of those who get vaccinated for malaria.

Yep, right after I defined their 2 part strategy of electioneering and profiteering out comes this expose of how Trump is deferring to the bottom lines of CEOs over the public interest.

Trump Won’t Order Vital Coronavirus Supplies Because Corporate CEOs Asked Him Not To

https://www.vanityfair.com/news/2020/03/donald-trump-defense-production-act

ARTICLE:

Spoiler:
One of the most mind-boggling aspects of the coronavirus crisis in America is the fact that one of the wealthiest countries in the world doesn’t have the basic medical supplies necessary to deal with the situation. In addition to a lack of beds, hospitals across the nation have nowhere near the number of ventilators and masks doctors require to both do their jobs and protect themselves. While governors have pleaded with Donald Trump to help them obtain such equipment, he’s literally told them they’re on their own, seemingly forgetting the fact that he’s the one with the power here. For instance, Andrew Cuomo can’t invoke the Defense Production Act, which allows the federal government to take some control of the private sector to ensure production of materials relevant to national defense, but Trump can. And yet he’s chosen not to. Why? Because corporate CEOs don’t like the idea, and the president is more concerned with keeping big business happy than keeping Americans alive.

Yes, according to the New York Times, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and heads of major corporations have “lobbied the administration against using the act,” arguing that it could impose “red tape” on companies at a time when they need the government out of their hair. Unsurprisingly, free market die-hard Larry Kudlow, i.e., Trump’s never-right National Economic Council director, was “persuaded” by such arguments, as was Trump’s not-very-bright son-in-law, Jared Kushner. Instead the Trump Brain Trust has insisted that it can just convince businesses to help bridge the shortfall of vital medical supplies without making a formal demand, an initiative that thus far has had predictable results:

The government has essentially thrown out its existing playbook for dealing with pandemics, seizing the issue from the Department of Health and Human Services and moving it to the Federal Emergency Management Agency. But it is far from clear that the effort to enlist companies like General Motors, Apple, and Hanes, just a few of the firms that have promised to free up existing supplies of masks or repurpose 3D printers to produce ventilator parts, constitutes an effective strategy.

In interviews with participants in the process, from business executives to government officials, there is still widespread confusion about how much and what exactly each firm is supposed to produce. Corporate executives say they face a bewildering number of requests from dozens of nations around the world, along with governors and mayors around the country, for scarce supplies. The White House has not said who will set the priority list for deliveries. And it is not clear that any of it will arrive in time for the cities and the states that are hit the hardest, including New York.

Administration officials, asked why they have been reluctant to use the full force of the Defense Production Act to press industry into action, say the country is not in such dire straits. There is plenty of volunteer cooperation, they say, and there is always the implicit threat of ordering mandatory measures if they do not. Mr. Trump, at the news briefing, suggested an ideological concern as well. “We’re a country not based on nationalizing our business,” he said.

During that briefing on Sunday, White House economic adviser Peter Navarro told reporters, “We’re getting what we need without putting the heavy hand of government down.” Navarro, you may recall, is the West Wing’s resident China crackpot whom Kushner hired after finding him on Amazon, and who attempts to sway government policy by issuing memos under a pen name. That’s the kind of expertise that’s led to, among other things, the production of basically worthless underwear masks:

Anderson Warlick, the chief executive of the textile company Parkdale Mills, said Mr. Navarro had called him early last week to ask what the company could make. By Saturday, Parkdale Mills joined Hanes, Fruit of the Loom, and other companies in announcing a coalition to produce masks. But they are not the kind hospitals most need. The new masks will be made of a three-ply underwear fabric, and do not provide the level of protection given by the N95 masks that health care workers need for intubation and other procedures.

While the corporate announcements, like Apple’s move to donate millions of masks, may have generated some positive headlines for the Trump administration, critics say the ad hoc approach is falling far short of the challenge. Industry executives say companies are reluctant to crank up production lines without purchasing guarantees from the government. With the economy in free-fall and factories shuttering around the country, few manufacturers are eager to invest in new machinery or venture into new products.

On Sunday, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, among others, issued a public plea for Trump to invoke the Defense Production Act, saying, “We cannot wait until people start really dying in large numbers to start production, especially of more complicated equipment like ventilators and hospital beds.”

Of course it’s in no way surprising that Trump would prioritize the needs and desires of big business over matters of life and death, which would explain why he’s already ready to let people get out in the world and spread the virus further in an effort to shore up the economy:

I just read through several more of the Vanity Fair articles. I won't post them as it is probably too depressing, but the gist of it is Trump is really imploding even more so behind the scenes and lashing out at the experts. It turns out Kushner was still telling Trump the virus is fake news just days ago. It does look like we'll lose Fauci and there will be no federal lock-downs or material aid to the health care facilities. Trump is overwhelmed and paralyzed by fear and listening to all of the wrong people. When in doubt, and he's always in doubt, he'll line the pockets of the rich.

More importantly; Cuba, Russia and China has sent huge cargoes of much needed medical supplies and renown Cuban medics to Italy's rescue.

Something we can't get.

Something is terribly wrong here...
