Italy's death count quickly jumped back to almost record numbers. The last 2 days were the calm before the storm.

This Senator is the one Democrat who is considered a swing vote in the Senate. He always votes with the Democrats when the vote is close, but he sometimes votes with the Republicans when he feels can afford to score some points with the more right wing voters in his state.

As you can see here, there is going to continue to be pushback against the GOP's corrupt attempt to stuff relief measures with gifts for Trump and big business.

I know a couple friends - very smart people - who are showing a level of arrogance (with regards to containment) in those times that is frankly a little disappointing. Friends going outside to play soccer but "it's ok because they respect social distancing". A girl I liked told me that her parents (whose home she returned to during containment) were being "too wise" and that she wishes they "went outside more". We're all flawed, but the lack of mental strength, empathy and basic collective thinking can be a little troubling at times.

You guys share my frustration? Or am I being too harsh here?

Your frustrations are spot on.

Plenty of Americans are spoiled and too used to doing/getting whatever THEY want to ever consider sacrifice. Sort of like that rich kid a few years back whose dad gave him a brand new BMW for his birthday, but he pushed it into the river because it wasn't the car he wanted.

We're living in the "Me Me Me" era, so asking Americans to follow rules they're not used to for any length of time is an "inconvenience" they just won't agree to. Then you factor in those who say "I need to go to the beach just to get out," never considering that 1000 other people also had the same idea as them and then social distancing has gone out the window.

Teens and young adults today grew up at a time when everybody won a trophy even if they did nothing to earn it. So, it stands to reason there is no mental strength anymore. There is no empathy anymore. It's only "What I Want" and nothing else matters.

No you're not being too harsh.

We live in a country whose population Bitchhes and moans about not getting long enough vacations.. not enough time off.. we work too much. And now everyone is freaking out because they have to stay at home watching tv for a month. It's unreal.

Everyone.. take this time to try and decompress. Go out for a walk or a hike. Sit in a park and read a book. Nah... people crave and love crisis and drama.

Stay away from each other and stay at home. Things will get better. Jesus H.

America is a profoundly selfish society. It makes any kind of collective change for the better a great challenge.

I live in Switzerland but I guess Western societies show comparable trends in terms of individual behavior, in different ways I guess. I'm aware we can't paint every Western society with the same brush (or even assume the concept of Western society) but this crisis is truly highlighting the prevalence of individualism (with selfishness and entitlement as its ugly side effects) in our population(s) in contrast with other societies. I'm not idealizing these societies either, it's just a basic observation.

The Knicks became incredibly boring to me. And I ran into my first experience with a narcissist/sociopath. Took me almost two years to leave her.

I feel fortunate to be in New Mexico and not in Brooklyn. But I know New Yorkers.. they'll rise to the occasion. How are things on your end?

I don't think Trump is mentally ill. I think this is more-or-less the bottom line.

The cost of shutting down the economy for longer than a month or two is substantially more than the cost of letting the hospitals and the healthcare system getting overwhelmed and overrun. The reason why the stock market is precipitously dropping every day and the Fed is going all-in is because things are much, much worse than they are revealing to us. They must have crunched the numbers, and the states cannot afford the future unemployment payments, the pension funds cannot afford the market to crash 70-90%, the federal government cannot afford to bet more than than a $2T stimulus (10% of the economy).

In every war, there are casualties. I believe that Trump has decided to sacrifice the elderly and the healthcare workers in this war. He royally f*cked up containment and mitigation measures are failing; they aren't even being followed by the American people and many also don't want to follow them. A lot of the things they do in Asia cannot be done here because people care a lot more about freedom to do whatever they want without consequences than the good of the collective. My mom could very well die from this, but this is the country we live in, for better or for worse.

Interesting take on what might be driving the "Reopen The Country" movement.

But, I disagree with one point. Trump IS mentally ill!

Of course he is mentally ill. It doesn't mean he cannot function in some capacity that inflicts damage on others.

QUOTE:

Psychoanalyst and Holocaust survivor Erich Fromm, who invented the diagnosis of malignant narcissism, argues that it “lies on the borderline between sanity and insanity.” Otto Kernberg, a psychoanalyst specializing in borderline personalities, defined malignant narcissism as having four components: narcissism, paranoia, antisocial personality and sadism. Trump exhibits all four.

Seems like we're doing our best to catch Italy in confirmed cases. On 3/17 we had 6,479 confirmed cases... :nonono:

It's a little dry over here, if you know what I mean. I good story about a crazy woman would do wonders for group morale. :D

When he hits 35% approval ratings after the elder purge becomes reality in five weeks then the palace coup will become a possibility.

We should've done it by now. But either way most of the govenors aren't going to listen to what he says.

This is what I know so far:

-masks don't work

-hand sanitizer actually makes your skin more porous over time, so that's not a solution

-wash your hands all the time

-stay away from sick people

-if you're sick, stay home

-stay out of large public gatherings

-don't touch your face with your hand

-stop shaking hands with people

-shammgod has to stop hanging out in public restrooms.

Not bad. Looks like I got the first two wrong.

I feel like we are more likely to hunt the elderly for sport than take care of citizens during a crisis.

The government is going to "bale out" major corporations while letting small businesses fail and the working class die in the streets. 'Merica - **** yeah!

Return to New York Knicks
